ARCHIVED Calling Kroger Shoppers
dragonmom replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The spiral cut hams are a lot like honey baked, but they have a packet of glaze that has wheat in it. The ham is fine the glaze is not. So you just have to make your own glaze. -
I vote for bringing what you want to eat with you, I went to a dinner at my husbands co workers house, she knew I couldn't eat gluten....lets say the salad was good. Lesson learned, bring food.

If there is a corporate office you should email or write and tell them what a great manager they have in Jim. It is really nice when someone takes that extra step.

Sissy, according to several others Athenos Blue Cheese is Gluten free, I tried it and seem to be ok. Some of the labels say wheat but others don't. I do love the taste and there is no substitute. Brenda -

ARCHIVED Need Baking Ingredient Help
dragonmom replied to Blue's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Too bad chemistry wasn't my forte in school. I just finished making my old favorite Gumdrop cookie, last year it was as hard as a rock, my husband just walked by and said "Either I'm getting used to this gluten free life style or these cookies taste just like the old ones." (I think the xanthum gum made the difference!) This is only my second Christmas... -
Hi, I did a dry run and used the biscut dough, they turned out really well, thanks. The mini corn dogs are now on the list of things to try. The dogs wrapped in bacon sound good too, I wrap dates stuffed with montery jack cheese with bacon , sounds odd but tastes good.

ARCHIVED Need Baking Ingredient Help
dragonmom replied to Blue's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg seems to be pretty good because she mostly uses corn starch and potato starch, I made the cinnamon rolls and they were great. Corn starch is pretty inexpensive , potato starch is 'nt too bad either. The dough is very "moist" not at all like regular dough. That really takes some getting used to . Good luck ! -
Thanks for the suggestions, I have some Bob's bisquit dough- or maybe the frozen pizza dough .....will keep trying. I think the pancake pigs sounded really...good

Having a Christmas party, I am attempting to make it gluten free. Popular item is cocktailweenies wrapped in like biscuit dough. Has anyone ever attempted to make that gluten-free?

dragonmom replied to key's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My score was still really high after 1 year, the doctor said to check what I was eating again. I then thought that I might be glutening myself at work, I work in a grocery store and touch bags of flour on a regular basis- made me think anyway. I really thought that I had been really careful in my eating...I'll deep working at it. 116, 20 is normal -

When I made the peppermint bark I melted a bag of white chocolate chips , semi sweet chocolate would work too, then I added crushed up candy canes. Put it on a silicone mat or a cookie sheet with a little butter or spray , or a marble slab. Let it cool break it up and eat- it takes very little effort. Enjoy -

dragonmom replied to Jess's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know what area you live in but I emailed the grocery store that I go to and recieved a gluten free list from them. I live in Mass. and shop at Shaws/Star and I did get a list . Also the national celiac organization has a list that is about 30 dollars that has a very comprehensive list. Hope it is helpful. -

ARCHIVED How To Get Rid Of Gluten In My House
dragonmom replied to kara7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm the only one with celiac disease in our house, I make most of the food so most of the time we are all gluten free, my daughter has become a great gluten free cook, made gumbo the other day and can make a great cheese cake using gluten-free gingersnaps. My husband eats regular cereal in the morning because it is cheaper not because he won't eat gluten... -
ARCHIVED The Gift Baskets Are Starting
dragonmom replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Go to the dinners and bring your own.....people are amazing. More and more are understanding of the Celiac condition, they know someone or are related- you know. I brought a purse with a baggie of turkey and some rolls and pretzels and cookies for dessert, there was nothing on the buffet to eat. I was sitting at a table with a fellow Celiac and I shared... -
ARCHIVED Alaska On Holland America
dragonmom replied to dragonmom's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the information, I appreciate the response. I really don't expect them to fawn over me , I don't think I could take that , but I do appreciate that they consider what I need to survive. Was it a beautiful cruise, I've been looking at the pictures of the area and it looks great! -
ARCHIVED Attack Sent Me To The Er By Ambulance Today!
dragonmom replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was talking to a coworker today who was recently in the hospital for chest pains, they found nothing wrong with her heart, have done several tests , I know she has migraines and other associated feelings of Celiac. I told her to ask about Celiac if they found nothing wrong with her. Sometimes I think I'm associating everyone elses aches and pains with... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Cook Book
dragonmom replied to pinktulip's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think I've got almost every cookbook written, I like to read about what I might cook, my most recent favorite is the Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg. I made the cinnamon bun in it and it was ......words do not do it justice -
I have gained back all that I had lost when I was sick -pre diagnosis- I had a pill that I got from the doctor, it just made my mouth massively dry. I'm thinking about trying something else, but I'm not sure what. I keep trying to lose weight but nothing seems to be working. Good luck in your attempts. We'll all keep plugging along. Oh , my doctor also...

I think that just the chocolate chips would work- I buy the gluten-free pretzels and dip them in melted chocolate chips and they are good. Good luck with the attempt!

Many grocery stores will steam your lobsters for you , maybe they would do crabs too.

Picked up the First for Women Magazine today and read the article. Great picture Vickie I think it is true that the more people know the better off everyone will be. By the way it is available at almost every checkout in grocery stores.
