ARCHIVED Envirokidz Rice Bars Now Have Soy!
Juliebove replied to 2boysmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm... The old ones had a Cheetah and the new ones have a penguin. Luckily daughter has decided she doesn't like them so no worries there. Was nice to have a quick to grab bar on those days when I can't get her moving. -
ARCHIVED Envirokidz Rice Bars Now Have Soy!
Juliebove replied to 2boysmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe that's an old ingredient list. I do remember the boxes looking like that but at some point they changed it to say canola or soybean oil. The boxes I got 2 years ago said that and my daughter did react. I guess I didn't notice that may contain notice though. -
ARCHIVED Envirokidz Rice Bars Now Have Soy!
Juliebove replied to 2boysmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They've had soy for a long time. I don't know when they first put it in. But I couldn't find any locally for a long time so I placed an order online and got 5 boxes of them. I was shocked when they arrived and they had soy in there. Daughter was allergic to soy but has now outgrown it. I had to give them away. That was about 2 years ago so I know they... -

ARCHIVED To Sift Or Not To Sift
Juliebove replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I never sift. And quick breads don't need to be toasted, but... They also don't seem to keep very well. 2 maybe 3 days is the best I've had them be good for. I usually make them as muffins and then I can put some in the freezer. -
We generally avoid chain places because the food tends to be pre-made and frozen. Often there is added stuff like gluten in that kind of food. I've found that chicken is generally not a safe choice. But a hamburger patty or chopped sirloin is. Steak can can be tricky too. They often put seasoning on it that could contain gluten or use butter that may...

I've seen them online. I think it was at the Vermont Country Store. -
ARCHIVED Halloween Party Menu
Juliebove replied to Katester's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Why are the Sloppy Joes not gluten-free? It's easy to make gluten-free ones. Deviled eggs are always popular on Halloween. -
Burger King fries are not dipped in a batter. Unless they have some kind of special fries that are different than the regular ones.

ARCHIVED Bubble Gum
Juliebove replied to Trust Birth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some gum base does contain gluten. I do not have a list of which ones though. -
ARCHIVED Freezing Meals
Juliebove replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't freeze a lot of stuff, but... I used to cook up chicken breasts and freeze them for daughter's lunch. Then I found chicken breast already seasoned and in a pouch. She loves them so no more of that. For a time there I was big into taco salads. So I would freeze seasoned taco meat in individual portions. When it came time to eat, I would put... -
ARCHIVED Light Coloured Christmas Cake
Juliebove replied to simplicity66's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't have an actual recipe. I used a recipe that is in one of my gluten-free cookbooks for a birthday cake. It contained a chopped apple and a chopped pear. It was a spice cake. I merely added a ton of candied fruit and nuts. Not so much cake. Added enough stuff so there was just enough cake to stick it together. It was just okay. I wouldn't make... -
ARCHIVED Low-level Allergy To Milk
Juliebove replied to ABQturkey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lactaid won't eliminate the casein and that's what she's allergic to. Yes, eliminate it. Be sure to watch for things like canned soups, margarine, canned icing, etc. Lots of things contain dairy. -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Two.
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh! I do have a flour mix but assumed I needed something with like...shortening or something in it as well. -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Two.
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The meat sauce I make tends to make too much for two people. But I do have some ground beef in the fridge so maybe I can freeze half a package and just use that. We do like pasta. As for the Mexican food, I tend not to make that at home very often because when we do go out to eat it is usually for Mexican. The pie does sound good, but I haven't got... -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Two.
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That would be quick, but neither of us like stir fry or instant rice. I guess we are just picky eaters. I just asked her what her favorite meal would be and she said green beans and black olives. I could live off of Ian's chicken nuggets but she won't eat them. -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Two.
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I guess I could do hamburger steaks. We like those. Can't do tofu because soy messes with my thyroid. What I do for meatloaf is use flax meal and water. Fish and tomatoes just sounds kind of weird to me. We don't really eat much fish unless it is tuna. My parents went on a Weight Watcher's kick and they seemed to eat nothing but fish, hamburger patties... -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Two.

I don't really want a big pot of something. That's just too much for two people. I don't really want leftovers. And soup isn't that quick to fix, unless it's in the crockpot but then I can't do the noodles or rice. Neither of us like salmon so that's out. And the last thing wouldn't really work. I am allergic to eggs and I don't like fruit. Don... -
Now granted there are only three in our family but I am used to cooking larger amounts. Husband can eat a TON and so can daughter, sometimes. Generally if I make a recipe for four it is all gone and they are looking for more food. I usually make a recipe for six if I want no leftovers. And for eight if I want something to send in her lunch the next day...

ARCHIVED Need Help From The Diabetics, Low-carb, Or Grain-free Ers
Juliebove replied to missy'smom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am diabetic. I don't do low carb, but certainly lower carb than before. I used to eat a vegetarian diet with mainly beans and rice or beans and pasta. No more! I do have to fix food for my family so I try most of the time to make something we will all eat. Tonight it is chicken and rice in the crockpot. But I am using a mix of brown and wild rice... -
ARCHIVED So Worried About My Husband
Juliebove replied to Mandy1020's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Steak is hard to digest. So is salad. I have gastroparesis which is nerve damage to the stomach. I can not eat any steak at all or it will come back up. Have to be careful with salad. Can eat a small amount. He should probably be eating easy to digest foods. Rice pasta with tomato sauce, chicken breast, turkey breast, ground beef, potatoes with no... -
ARCHIVED Lunchables Nachos
Juliebove replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just looked at those in the store and they had a disclaimer but I can't remember what it was. It was either processed in a facility that uses... Or on shared lines with... But it may not have been wheat. May have been nuts or some other thing. -

ARCHIVED How To Tell An Itallian Guy "drop Half Your Culture"
Juliebove replied to raen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband is Italian. He doesn't have gluten issues, but daughter is allergic to wheat. He eats rice pasta, corn pasta, quinoa pasta. No complaints, provided the sauce on it is good. I've made soup similar to Minestrone, minus the pasta in the crockpot and there wasn't a drop left. I've used the Namaste pizza crust mix and put no cheese on top. Just... -
ARCHIVED Upcoming Hysterectomy Concerns
Juliebove replied to lenjac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When my SIL had her hysterectomy somewhat recently, they didn't give her any solid food, except perhaps just before her release. Could be that she got it and didn't remember. The only things they gave her were Jell-O and broth. I can see how the broth might be a concern. But the Jell-O should be okay, unless perhaps you don't like it. If I were you,...
