  1. I don't usually have a lot of kitchen flops but I sure had one the day after Thanksgiving when I used a recipe of Rachel Ray's. This was before we knew of our food allergies. It was a Boboli pizza crust topped with a can of cranberry sauce, some kind of cheese (can't remember what kind) and leftover turkey. I must say it was one of the worst things I've...
  2. Tonight I planeed to make BLTs but daughter pitched a fit and refused to eat them. Said she would eat only the bacon which is not enough for dinner. She wanted pancakes. I didn't want to make them. I used to make TONS of pancakes before our food allergies with no problem. But because I have to modify the recipe so much it just doesn't work. I had a...
  3. I have gastroparesis and GERD. Also have food allergies but not celiac. I do not get stomach pain when my stomach is acting up. It will just feel weird. Like not quite right. And I feel like if I massage the area it will help. But it never does. Sometimes I don't even get the weird feeling, but I will feel saliva backing up in my mouth. I then know...
  4. I have neuropathy but not a wheat allergy. Or celiac... My neuropathy was caused by diabetes.
  5. I'm with you! I get laughed at too. I also will not eat anything that has been sitting out for more than 2 hours. It's just not worth getting sick.
  6. We do but not often.
  7. Prediabetes and hypoglycemia are two different things. Hypoglycemica or reactive hypoglycemica are low blood sugar. The reactive type being a response to eating too many carbs. The excess carbs cause a quick spike followed by a low. Prediabetes can mean different things. In most people it is slightly elevated blood sugar. My SIL had it and in her...
  8. In some cases they may not want you to look at the label because they don't want you to know what sort of cheap or pre-processed food they are serving. And if they cook from scratch, there may be no labels. But I do know what you mean. At one restaurant we used to eat at, one of the owners just told us she didn't know what was in anything! Said nothing...
  9. I don't know about alcohol as I don't drink any more. I do have diabetes and people with type 2 are more prone to high triglycerides. What DOES raise triglycerides though is carbs, particularly of the refined variety like sugar and white rice. Try eating less carbs.
  10. Daughter is allergic to peanuts and bananas and I am allergic to almonds. But thanks!
  11. I used to be well known as a good baker. But now... Forget it! I haven't had a lot of luck with gluten-free baking, especially since I can't use eggs or dairy. The only things that really turned out well were some crackers and foccacia.
  12. I would still bring some things with me that are stable at room temp. Like pumpkin seed bars, Lara bars, nuts, dried fruit, trail mix, etc. Things that are substantial.
  13. Cinnamon raised my blood sogar. Not only that, it began leaving an unpleasant taste in my mouth. Everything began tasting of it and I felt like I reeked of it. My Dr. told me to quit taking it.
  14. Daughter eats the plain Lays, Wavy, Ruffles, and plain Fritos with no problems. No problems yet anyway. Can't do the Staxx because of soy.
  15. There are some people who say that grains in general are not good for the body and should not be eaten. However, there are some people who will say the same for any food. I have read about people who are against sprouts, potatoes, nightshades, meat, dairy, eggs, etc. I don't think anyone can realistically make broad sweeping statements like that to apply...
  16. We just tried the Parmesan tonight. Oh wow! Not only did it taste like the real thing, but it SMELLED like the real thing. I only wish they could have put it in a better container than the plastic bag it came in. It's not a resealable bag. I was getting to the point of thinking I would puke if I had to face another plate of pasta. I had been using...
  17. I can't remember how much the shipping was, but I don't think it was cheap.
  18. They are small white beans.
  19. It seems that the problem is the pasta doesn't soak in the flavors of the dressing.
  20. I bring my salted water to a boil, then add the pasta, turn the heat down to just simmering, then set the timer for 2 minutes before the lowest suggested cooking time. I test them then by eating one. This is usually the right amount of time. Sometimes need a wee bit longer for larger shapes. I do not rinse in cold water. This works for me.
  21. Not sure this will allow me to post the link here, but I will try... Open Original Shared Link
  22. If the pill you were taking was Diflucan, that can indeed make you very ill. It did me! Very sick to my stomach. And it didn't help. Coconut is indeed an antifungal but you must have the unsweetened kind. Either buy a whole coconut or get the kind in the green bag that is just dehydrated with no additives. Sorry, I can't remember the name. Ah......
  23. We have additional food allergies so there are even fewer gluten-free desserts daughter can eat. I got her a chocolate cupcake for tomorrow (4th of July) and she regularly eats Enjoy Life cookies. Sometimes gets some Orgran or other brands of cookies, but there is little else we can get pre-made. I've tried to make pies and cakes and they just don't come...
  24. I placed an order online from them for some gravy mix and faux cheese. I know I can make gravy from scratch, but it is nice to have something quick to fix. And they had a cream gravy. I was craving chicken fried steak. I tried the beef and loved it. Daughter said she didn't like it as much as she does my regular gravy. Odd though, she ate enough of...
  25. I have made a raw nacho cheese dip that had cashews, a red or orange pepper, and orange, some hot peppers, bit of salt and maybe one or two other things I am forgetting about. It was really wonderful. Quick to fix and everybody loved it.
