ARCHIVED I Hate When We Have To Make Decisions Because Of Our Disease
Juliebove replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
I went to DC once and was less than thrilled. Heat and humidity, yes. Rain? Always at 5:00. Right when the museums closed. We had walked over there and there are no restaurants or bars to duck into. So we got drenched. Crime? Rampant! Some guy was shot right near our hotel. And I was shocked at all the slums there. Really not a nice place to... -
ARCHIVED "cross-Reacting"?
Juliebove replied to BreninMA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cross reacting relates to IgE allergies. What that means is that your body reacts to a food as if it is pollen. I don't know all of what can cross react. My allergist gave me a list but I don't have it handy. I know that if you have a birch allergy you can react to celery. Often the symptom will be OAS (oral allergy syndrome). That means when you eat... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Dairy Free
Juliebove replied to krystynycole's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made the yellow cake for my daughter for my birthday. I used Nucoa margarine and also Ener-G egg replacer. Came out well. Have also made the brownies using coconut oil and egg replacer. Tried the cookies but they didn't come out so well. They tasted fine. They just sort of melted into one another. -
My daughter was diagnosed at age 6. Not with celiac but a food allergy. After a couple of years she had forgotten what wheat tasted like. I guess she is one of the lucky ones. Because I have diabetes I didn't keep a lot of bread in the house ever and we didn't eat a lot of pasta. So she wasn't used to having it at every meal. Then about 4 years later...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Juliebove replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No cooking here. I am worn out and it was warm here. Not hot but uncomfortable. For daughter there was leftover Mexican rice with veggies and chicken and some good Mexican cheese sprinkled over. Also corn tortillas and black olives. I just had bean tacos with cheese and olives. Should have had veggies, I know. But I didn't. -
ARCHIVED Please Advice: A Mother Of A Teen With Wheat Allergy/gluten Sensitivity
Juliebove replied to Kurzemiete's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Why is she eating wheat if you know it is a problem? And since you both have the problem, I would not be bringing it into the house at all. My daughter is soon to be 13 and there is no way she would eat wheat. She knows the problems it causes for her. I realize since you are in Canada your food choices might be somewhat different than ours. We can... -
I have IgG allergies. A naturopath can check for those with a blood test. An allergist would normally be the one to check for IgE allergies. Those are the ones that can kill you. Sometimes other Drs. can do this test. It is either by a skin prick or a blood test. But then there are those things that don't fall into either category. For me that is...

Thanks! I don't see this listed on their menu on the website, but it has been confirmed on Facebook.

ARCHIVED Thyroid Test Coming Up
Juliebove replied to gfreecollegegirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's and she is tired all the time. I developed a thyroid problem when I was pregnant. No cause was looked for. I has *knock wood* since gone away when I eliminated soy from my diet. But... I went from hypo to hyper and back again. Yes, it can happen. -
ARCHIVED Tennis Players Gluten Free .
Juliebove replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't keep up with tennis any more, but... I would think anyone in the public eye like that who has a dietary issue would be best served not to make a big deal of it in public. I say this because someone who is not on the up and up could easily use this against them. And by this I mean like sneaking the substance into their food, arranging to have it... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Alergic To Eggs?
Juliebove replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm very allergic. Took me a VERY long time to figure it out. When we lived in NY I often ate eggs for breakfast. I was doing low carb then. I had to drive daughter to school right after breakfast. I would need the toilet and it would be hard to get out the door. Then once home I could barely get in the door before I had to go again. I didn't make... -
ARCHIVED Looking For gluten-free Cat Food Wet And Dry
Juliebove replied to shayre's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My cats love the Now! dry food. They can't get enough of it. Alas, I can't find a moist food that they like, except for the Fancy Feast Appetizers. They're just meat or fish so probably gluten-free but they are not meant as the only source of food because they are not complete. -
ARCHIVED Perkins Or Panera Breakfast Options (West St. Paul, Mn.)
Juliebove replied to rebe09's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't think either would be safe either. But if you do go to Perkins then maybe just some fruit. I'd be afraid of anything done on the grill with all the pancakes and French Toast that they do. -
ARCHIVED Minute-maid Lemonade
Juliebove replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you cook the pasta? If so was it a new pot, colander, pasta fork, etc? If not there could have been gluten lurking in the crevices. If she is newly diagnosed she could also be having trouble with dairy. That often happens. -
ARCHIVED Am Sick From Texas Roadhouse
Juliebove replied to JoyVertz's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't eat dressing but have found the crouton buried in the salad many times and so has my daughter. I've even been told at some restaurants that it's hard to avoid because the croutons fly everywhere. I prefer to eat at places that don't serve croutons at all but there aren't very many. I wish restaurants would do the prepackaged croutons like they do... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Juliebove replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am trying to use up all the old food. I had some little pearl potatoes that were fine the last time I checked but they had gone moldy! And most of the bag of russets I had were also bad. But I did find two that could be salvaged. I peeled them, cut in bite sized chunks, then boiled them in some chicken broth. As the broth was about to dry up, I added... -
ARCHIVED How Often Do You Eat Out At Restaurants?
Juliebove replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It really varies. My daughter usually takes a lot of dance classes. She has just short of a stress fracture in her back so now no activity for 2 months. Otherwise she would be dancing twice a week until about 8 p.m. And most likely I would have taken her out to eat at least one of those days. Not that there is much open at that hour. Yes, there is Denny... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I chopped up an onion, a red bell pepper and a green bell pepper. Cooked those in a bit of olive oil with some cubes of potato. Then added some cooked, crumbled sausage. I'm not a super big fan of sausage but daughter loved it! Also had some gluten-free pumpkin and millet bread from the health food store. It was over $7 a loaf. I could live without... -
ARCHIVED 100+ Ways To Make Rice
Juliebove replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I cleaned out my cupboard the other day and used up some stuff that was about to expire. Had a can of Mexi corn, kidney beans, roasted tomatoes and chicken broth. I added rice that had been cooked briefly in some olive oil, some onion, cooked ground beef and some extra red peppers. Seasoned with a bit of salt and plenty of chili powder. Yum! My dad... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know Anything About This Medicine?
Juliebove replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can look up the name of any med here. It's mostly dissatisfied people who had side effects from meds. But it is very helpful if you are having problems. It is here that I learned that my weird dreams, migraines and increased GERD symptoms were coming from my GERD meds. And it is here that I learned that statins can cause increased blood sugar and... -
