ARCHIVED Connie's Gone Off The Deep End.
Juliebove replied to conniebky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When I was pregnant (and living in another state), my mom told me not to expect her to babysit. Now I live about 9 miles from her. Daughter is old enough to stay home by herself for short periods of time. The only time my mother has ever really babysat was when we were already at their house. I might run to the store for an hour or so. And she... -
ARCHIVED Trix?
Juliebove replied to sunnybabi1986's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think Cocoa Puffs were ever gluten-free. Perhaps you were thinking of Cocoa Pebbles! -
Refried Beans
Juliebove replied to Wakeboarder's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is an old post. I have never seen gluten in refried beans. Other types of beans, yes. Like Ranch beans or Chili beans. They are super easy to make yourself though. Either cook some dried pinto beans or use canned beans. Mash with a potato masher and if desired add some olive oil and seasonings such as cumin and powdered onion. -
ARCHIVED Help I Miss Pizza
Juliebove replied to kellykay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We buy the Amy's but it is not very good as is. I add a mix of extra cheese and some pizza seasoning. Sometimes I use the Ener-G rice flour crusts and just make my own. Have also used the Namaste crust mix. It's excellent but I'm too lazy to want to do that very often. -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Issues
Juliebove replied to Jacky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you go through your kitchen and get rid of anything that might have lurking gluten? Like non-stick cookware, colanders and the like? That was the first thing I did when daughter was diagnosed. Also got rid of the obvious foods like wheat flour and scrubbed out the cupboards. I don't use cutting boards except to put under the paper plates that I cut... -
ARCHIVED A Tip For Eating At Regular Restaurants
Juliebove replied to laurland's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I once asked about pork chops. I was told there was no wheat on them. And then they came out breaded. I was then told it was not wheat but flour. When I asked what kind of flour the waitress got a dumb look on her face. She then tried to make up for it by bringing my daughter a dessert. Of course there was nothing she could eat because it all contained... -
ARCHIVED Strawberry Rhubarb Loaf
Juliebove replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow! No eggs or dairy. We could actually eat this! Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Frustrated About Incorrect, Out Of Date Posts
Juliebove replied to ChemistMama's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
The first time I came here, I didn't realize how old some of the posts could be. Now whenever I see something that doesn't look right, I check the date. And if replying, I will add that it is an old post. -
ARCHIVED Juicy Fruit Gum
Juliebove replied to BamBam's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know this is a very old post. But I believe the Mentos gum is not gluten-free. I think there is gluten in the base. I could be wrong though. -
ARCHIVED Issue With Tidying Up
Juliebove replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My house is still a mess but the rule I have is... Each time I get up, I think about the room I'm going to. What goes in that room? I then fill each hand with things that go to that room and I put them away. If there is nothing that goes there, I still pick up some things even if it means making a detour to another room. I also keep trash and recycle... -
At a Greek place I would order hummus with a some cucumber slices or whatever other raw veggies they have instead of pita bread.

ARCHIVED Hot Dogs That Are Gluten Free
Juliebove replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe Viennas are what is served at Target. They are in fact gluten-free. Actually any and all hot dogs I have seen these days are gluten-free. The one I know of that did used to contain wheat no longer does. Can't remember the name of it now. I rarely buy them but when I do they are usually uncured beef. Can't remember the brand. -
ARCHIVED Can I Touch Gluten Containing Ingredients While Baking For Others?
Juliebove replied to Spudz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No wheat flour in our house either. I occasionally buy pre-made things but I won't bake with it. -
Are M&Ms Gluten Free?
Juliebove replied to Grace'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are now some with pretzels. I don't know if cross contamination is an issue or not. We can't have them because of a peanut allergy. So I never checked. -
I use my Magic Bullet. I had bought a coffee grinder but then read that would work. It does!

Wah! I fear it has been too cold/cool here in Western Washington. I didn't plant anything at all this season. Two years ago I planted early as we had an odd heat wave, then it got cold again and things either died or bolted during the heat wave. Last year it got very hot during the summer. I got some tomatoes, but they didn't taste any better than what...

ARCHIVED Chemical Free Dry Cleaning?
Juliebove replied to kbtoyssni's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I suppose it really depends on why it is to be dry cleaned. Sometimes the item is not color fast and if you were to wash it, the colors would run. Sometimes it might shrink or stretch if washed. If there are spots, you could try lightly cleaning them with cold water and baby shampoo. You might also try doing this under the arms. And it wouldn't hurt... -
I once hit a man with my cart, on purpose! This was many years ago before I had a child. I was shopping alone. Going down an aisle and nearing the end when a man with a little boy came blasting around the corner, ramming his cart hard into mine and getting it shoved back into my legs. It hurt! He said nothing. Didn't even look at me and just kept on...

So cuuute! At times we have a lot of cats in the backyard. Not sure if they are strays or not. I've tried to feed them but they won't let me near. I can't leave food out here due to the rat problem we now have. Used to be some old farms here and when they tore them down, the rats moved into our neighborhood. Had one die in our garage last two winters...

ARCHIVED Which Would Be More Humane
Juliebove replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would opt for the shelter, assuming it is "no kill". I see shelter cats all the time here with similar background stories. Just be sure to tell them he needs to be in a house with no other cats. This is why Maui is an only cat. Otherwise I would like to have more. -
Also remember that beans are an ideal food. Assuming you digest them well. They provide slow acting carbs plus protein. I eat them in some form pretty much every day.

I'm a type 2 diabetic but spent most of my life as a hypoglycemic. I can remember fainting while waiting for some eggs to boil. I had just moved to a new house. Brought the eggs with me and had no other food in the house. I can also remember as a diabetic, thinking I was fine and delaying my meal a bit because I felt I needed to do something, then passing...

ARCHIVED No Gluten/no Meat Help..
Juliebove replied to HopeMum's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
They're really good! I like the Southwestern and my daughter likes the Barbecue. -
We've been eating at this great little takeout place because they made gluten-free teriyaki. But they recently changed their menu and that is no longer on it. Last week is when we first noticed the change. I asked about their signature chicken and the balsamic chicken. The guy behind the counter said he knew the signature chicken had wheat but wasn't...
