We made cherry jazz. Dump 2 or 3 (tonight we used 3) cans of gluten-free cherry pie filling in an 9 by 13 inch pan. You can use other fruit such as canned peaches, fruit cocktail or other types of pie filling if you prefer. If using other canned fruit, drain off the juice. Dump a gluten-free vanilla or yellow cake mix of the top. You want one that... -
ARCHIVED Trying Meat Again
Juliebove replied to katebuggie28's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have gastroparesis and not celiac, but I too could not eat beef. Unless it was ground beef. That didn't cause a problem so long as I chewed it well. I tried eating Horme Roast Beef Au Jus and I would throw it up every time. But I let some time go by. I haven't thrown up in a very long time. Tried it again. Just a few bites, finely minced. And... -
ARCHIVED Gastroparesis
Juliebove replied to rlbcabjm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have gastroparesis. I don't have celiac. The cause for me is diabetes. Basically I follow a diet of easily digestible foods. Chicken, ground beef, rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, green beans, some cereals and some other vegetables. I can eat hummus and dried beans. Not everyone who has it can. -

ARCHIVED What Do You Do When You Receive Cookies And Cakes As Gifts?
Juliebove replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get stuff I can't eat all the time, between the diabetes and food allergies. If it's something pre-packaged, I might give it to a charity or a friend. But most of the stuff just goes straight into the trash. -
ARCHIVED Rat Or Mouse In Garage
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Husband said he saw something run out of the garage. So I hope that was it. -
We have over a foot of it here and I'm sick of it! This is our third storm in a row. I was able to stock up for the first two, but not this one. And we had a rat or mouse in the garage. Husband went out for food today. I wanted more, but was afraid he would buy stuff we couldn't use, given our food allergies. I just gave him a short list. Aerosol...

ARCHIVED Special Christmas Menus
Juliebove replied to ang1e0251's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Alas we are not having a special dinner this year. At least I don't think so. We are snowed in and have been for days. Only have emergency food in the house and the stuff for the tuna casserole I was planning for Christmas day lunch when my parents were supposed to come over here, but now won't be. If I have electricity, I'll fix that. We are in the... -
ARCHIVED Rat Or Mouse In Garage
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I drive a van and I wouldn't dare leave presents in there because of the crime rate in this neighborhood. I have found the cupcake mix and also some candy that I forgot about and put it in the house. At any rate, I can't get to the back of the van. Too much snow. Or the neighbor's house for that matter. Husband just called and said he has never seen... -
So... We are pretty much snowed in here. Husband has been getting out to go to work but the road we live on is really icy and I'm not going to risk it. It has started snowing again and we are due for high winds that could knock the power out for over a week. So of course I stocked up on as much food as I could. And that meant putting some of it in the...

My health food store ordered it for me.

Yes. I tried a raw recipe for "Tootsie Rolls". They were very good, but alas not so good for my blood sugar so I never made them again. Mesquite flour has a very unique flavor. Sort of like maple.

ARCHIVED Need Help With 4 Year Old
Juliebove replied to taweavmo3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband gets insanely annoying if he doesn't eat. I noticed this many years ago and it never got any better. The problem is he tends not to eat for long periods of time. One thing I've done with him is to put snacks by his chair. He will eat if the food is right there and he doesn't get up and get it. I spoke to a woman who said her coworker was... -
ARCHIVED Anutra
Juliebove replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Chia seeds are really filling. I ate them soley for breakfast for a long time, mixed with water and set in the fridge overnight as a gel. The problem is, I am diabetic and was told I needed to eat more carbs than just that because not eating enough carbs was probably causing my high blood sugar. As summer came around, I had less room in my fridge so stopped... -
The biggest risk is the croutons. Even though you say to leave them off, they might not. I've had salads where they put them on, then picked them back off, leaving little crumbs. Or worse yet, been eating the salad, then towards the bottom of the bowl, found a soggy one. One restaurant actually told me the bowl of croutons was right next to the salad...

That's what I use too. When we first started out, I made my own blend, thinking it would be cheaper. First I had to buy a big container to store it in, then I had to buy all the different flours. Of course I didn't use them in the same proportions and I always had tons of something left over. Then it would expire and I would throw it out. And I wouldn...

ARCHIVED Cooking Gluten Free For Kids
Juliebove replied to SAHM2one's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For meals and snacks, the cheapest things are things that are naturally gluten free. You can sometimes find rice noodles in the Asian section of the grocery store as well as sweet rice flour. We do a lot of meat and rice or meat and potatoes. Homemade soups, chili and stew are good choices. Nachos made with gluten-free corn chips or corn tortillas... -
ARCHIVED Cooking Gluten Free For Kids

This is my favorite cracker recipe. Due to a dairy allergy, I left out the cheese, but added a sprinkle of nutritional yeast and subbed rice milk for the milk. I also used olive oil because that's what I had. The recipe comes from "Gluten-Free Celebrations", by Carol Fenster, Ph.D. The recipe says these travel well and you can also add your favorite... -
We lost power for a week during the hot summer when I lived in NY. Of course being so hot really helped because we didn't feel like eating much. Mainly we lived off of canned beans, canned green beans, peanuts and little shelf stable cheeses.

ARCHIVED Is It Silly To Worry About Lunch Meat?
Juliebove replied to mr. moore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't buy it. Not only could the slicer have come in contact with meat that contains gluten, but many of those delis make sandwiches. The person slicing your meat could have made a sandwich just prior. Even with the packaged lunch meats, not all are gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Board Buttons Missing From Homepage
Juliebove replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Several times during the past few days, I could not access the board or the shop or anything at all here, except perhaps the recipe link and a few ads. Nothing was listed. It was weird.
