ARCHIVED How Long Can You Suffer After Ingesting Gluten?
YoloGx replied to carecare's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had it last even longer--3 to 4 weeks!! Or even longer since it can set one up for getting seriously ill with a virus or bacterial infection. By the way, there are lots of gluten free recipes out there. Consider using them for your whole family this Christmas. A plain rice crust works great for making pie for instance. Its still not the best food... -
ARCHIVED Everything Came Back Normal

I am glad your family is finally getting it. I guess seeing is believing--eventually... Thank heavens for that, eh? Its good to know what is what but sometimes hard to manifest. As time goes on more will be known hopefully. there are a multiplicity of other areas of the body that gluten can negatively affect than just the intestines. I am certainly... -
That info on fructose malabsorption looks interesting! Thanks. I may have a doctor check into whether or not I have fructose malabsorption sometime. Meanwhile any sugar at all bothers me similarly--though I can have a little honey once in a blue moon without quite as much distress. Definitely saved for the holidays! Bea

I agree--its a bummer not to be able to eat sugary things in this sugar full world. However such is life for some of us, and in the long run our health benefits are worth it since without sugar we usually are a lot healthier than many others around us. I too haven't been able to eat sugar, fruit, honey etc. without ill effect for some time. Instead I...

ARCHIVED Everything Came Back Normal

Thanks for the heads up on the book Lynayah and info on gluten intolerance. From what you say, it may be there just isn't that much discernable difference between severe cases of gluten intolerance and celiac. I want to read that book... I think doctors need to expand their definitions since eating gluten seems to be hard on a lot more people than just those... -
Good advice, though be careful of the hamburger. Sometimes it has gluten in it. Check to make sure they put in no extenders... Bea

Low thyroid often goes together with celiac. My mother and my boyfriend both have both so to speak. Herbs can help but usually don't do the whole thing. glad to help meanwhile. I need to get motivated to write my book on all this actually... Yes holidays are hard. However there are an awful lot of gluten-free recipes out there if you look--just google...

ARCHIVED Allergies, Intollerances, And Celiac
YoloGx replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow! I have heard of bee stings working for gluten intolerance and arthritis but not for celiac. That must take a lot of forbearance!! Am wondering if the wine works for you due to the extra enzymes?? Bea -
Hi Iffy, Welcome to the forum! Many people don't get celiac until they are older. The gene potential is there for life, but often does not show itself unless sufficient stress triggers the response. Once you have it however you have it for life. In addition, one can have celiac and not know it for quite some time. Untreated celiac can easily...

ARCHIVED Allergies, Intollerances, And Celiac
YoloGx replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OK--here's what I think: Intolerance to a food is often caused at least initially to leaky gut syndrome. If one has damage to the intestinal lining (as in celiac) leaky gut is more likely to happen. What then happens is that undigested proteins go into the blood stream, and the body attacks them like they are foreign invaders. Down wind of that, the liver... -
ARCHIVED Everything Came Back Normal
YoloGx replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The tests for celiac often aren't accurate--which certainly is made even more so if you are off gluten already. Nevertheless, many people "just" have gluten intolerance. My belief is that those with severe gluten intolerance are luckier than those with celiac. I may be wrong, but its my belief anyway that they are less subject to the negative effects of... -
ARCHIVED Hypogammaglobulinemia - Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With This?
YoloGx replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me it was still 1949... Glad to hear now they don't do shots. Bea -
I have read that if you follow a gluten free whole foods diet (without much in the way of sugars and additives) one actually is more likely to live to be quite old and more capable of being vigorous (assuming one keeps exercising). Further, people with celiac tend to be more physically flexible than others even into old age (due to difficulty absorbing minerals...

ARCHIVED Hypogammaglobulinemia - Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With This?
YoloGx replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I honestly don't know. Perhaps I should ask my Mom and see if she remembers. My feeling is that they noticed my immune system was way down. Interestingly this was after the first "Green Run" in Washington state. They did a full release of radiation from the Hanford nuclear reactor into the atmosphere to see what would happen. The wind shifted and it went... -
ARCHIVED Hypogammaglobulinemia - Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With This?
YoloGx replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was given gamma globulin as an infant. I had pneumonia at age 4 months plus stopped growing. Fortunately I was put in isolation and the doctor figured out it was my diet. He was originally from the Mayo clinic so knew something about celiac sprue--which I was then diagnosed with. Unfortunately I was put back on gluten at age 4 (we had already moved twice... -
ARCHIVED Just Hit Me That I Can't Have A "normal" Thanksgiving
YoloGx replied to lpjourney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think Thanksgiving is the hardest socially of all the holidays for someone with celiac if the family or friends one is eating with just doesn't get it or want to get it. This year I am planning to just celebrate it here alone with my (also celiac) room mate. Yesterday I helped my older brother clean up my mom's house (to show them that I actually do care... -
Am so glad you went in and found this so quickly. Crossing my fingers with you that it is OK and not malignant. But even if it is, it is better to know about it now and have the real chance of treating it successfully before it gets carried away... Bea

ARCHIVED Best Dr's Visit I've Ever Had
YoloGx replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I were you I'd pray for that guy. What else can you do but let it otherwise go?? Too bad. He really should get some tests done. Its likely the diabetes results in part from the gluten intolerance. IIt sounds very likely he has candida overgrowth issues actually. But some people just can't handle going through what one would need to handle it. A competent... -
ARCHIVED Nutrient Deficiencies?
YoloGx replied to sunnybabi1986's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I totally agree that its likely both of you have been detoxing and thus so very tired. Besides the dandelion root and possibly cleavers etc. etc. I highly recommend using olive leaf --either make a tea out of the leaves or buy a gluten free olive leaf extract capsules like from NOW. It helps immensely against aches and pains, esp. muscular ones, and fibromyalgia... -
ARCHIVED Best Dr's Visit I've Ever Had
YoloGx replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not to be a spoil sport but if your friend went through gluten withdrawal pains it is not a good sign. He too may be at least strongly gluten intolerant. It indicates a gluten addiction if nothing else -- which is indicative of a strong sensitivity if not allergy or worse. Its not a good idea for him to stay on whatever he's physically addicted to for obvious... -
ARCHIVED Back To Basics gluten-free Diet
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Whenever I have cooked kale I've needed to cook it for 20 minutes to half an hour... How would de-veining make such a difference?? Bea -
ARCHIVED Depression, Bipolar And All Other Celiac Crazies
YoloGx replied to JamieSims's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't have much time to deal with this today but yes a resounding yes!! One of the first places I noticed my "allergies" affecting me was my brain. Its also one of the first to go if I am at all off diet. EAting a basic whole foods diet without gluten or sugar seems essential for me. A paleo diet was very helpful with the addition of home made 24 hour yogurt... -
ARCHIVED Back To Basics gluten-free Diet
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Am in a rush today to finish preparing for my poetry reading tonight. However haven't noticed any activity in this Back to Basics forum of late...so want to say something as I munch on my very late brunch of yogurt with brown rice and sunflower seeds (I was up late collating poems on the computer last night into the wee hours). Graeme still seems to have... -
ARCHIVED Nutrient Deficiencies?
YoloGx replied to sunnybabi1986's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Looks good to me--if they do check the thyroid have them check your t-3 levels--they often forget to do this. Could also check your adrenals. Also for me it was my B-1 that was insufficient, not the B-12; so if you can get them to check all your B's that might be helpful...
