ARCHIVED Nicotine Patches
ravenwoodglass replied to sherrylynn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try a different brand of patches. When I was useing patches there were a couple that were fine but some would do the same thing to me. If you have itching and blisters where the medicated portion of the patch is rather than just where the adhesive contacts your skin you might not be able to use them. -
ARCHIVED Did You Have A Dark Time Dealing With This?
ravenwoodglass replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Make sure you are checking your shampoos and such for gluten ingredients. It may not apply to you but for me soy protein in hair products will also make me itch. If your products are gluten free but have soy maybe try some that don't and see if it helps. -
ARCHIVED Toothpaste gluten-free
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tom's of Maine also is safe. They clearly list where each ingredient is derived and have both floride and floride free varieties. -
ARCHIVED Gi Appt Confusion
ravenwoodglass replied to SAVANNAH21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is just my opinion but since you had a positive biopsy I would just go gluten free. The positive biopsy is the Gold Standard for diagnosis and since blood tests have a high rate of false negatives the biopsy trumps the blood test. I would consider myself diagnosed. Being gluten-free is not going to effect the outcome of tests for things other than celiac... -
ARCHIVED Some More Results In
ravenwoodglass replied to Meg123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you had positive blood work you have celiac no matter what the results of the biopsies are. There is a up to a 30% false negative rate on both blood and biopsy so if one is positive it is positive. The doctor can't tell by just looking at the tissue that was biopsied whether it is positive or negative. It needs to be looked at microscopically. Hopefully... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Know What You Are Reaacting To
ravenwoodglass replied to smc's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
IMHO the best way to figure out another intolerance is to eliminate things that have changed. Perhaps first get a different vitamin. See if that makes a difference since that was one thing that changed. Do you take any generic script meds? If so double check to make sure they are still gluten-free as companies can change binders at will with generics. Do... -
Cats are great animals and hopefully you will be able to tolerate one someday soon. Talk to a vet and ask if they know of something that may help one be best tolerated. I think in some instances you can shampoo them and if done starting when they are young some may actually enjoy it. I don't know if there are special shampoos and such bet a vet would know...

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal?
ravenwoodglass replied to nik95670's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Withdrawl can take a couple of weeks to get through. You do need to be strict with the diet and remove CC issues from your home. You need a new dedicated toaster for your gluten-free breads, a new strainer for pasta and do replace wooden utensils and cutting boards. Go with as much whole unprocessed foods as you can and if you are not used to eating a lot... -
ARCHIVED Did You Have A Dark Time Dealing With This?
ravenwoodglass replied to Newtoitall's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. Here is a link to the home page where you can find a list of forbidden and allowed foods along with other information. It does seem hard at first but it doesn't have to be expensive. Whole unprocessed foods like meats, veggies, fruits etc are the best to go with at first. It shouldn't be long before the bloating and D are over but... -
ARCHIVED I Guess It's Not Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to beachbirdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The tests do have pretty high rates of false negatives so do give the diet a good strict try to see if it helps. Your body will know the answer. -
Since you have only been gluten free for 2 days call your doctor this morning and ask if you can pick up a lab slip for a celiac panel todayif you feel you need a doctors diagnosis. You may still have enough antibodies for them to be picked up. However there are many here who are self diagnosed for a variety of reasons. Blood tests and biopsy can have false...

ARCHIVED Blood Pressure Meds
ravenwoodglass replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glad to hear that you called the pharmecy first and glad it has workied out for you. Some meds you can't do that with so if others want to try it do call and ask the pharm first. -
ARCHIVED Chest Pains?
ravenwoodglass replied to raesue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Simple answer is yes and bad enough to make them think in the ER that I was having a heart attack. I still get them when glutened but a dose of Pepto Bismal liquid stops it pretty quickly. -
ARCHIVED Gene Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to GFandhappy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is quite possible to be celiac and not have either DQ2 or DQ8. Gene testing is a realitively new science and there is much to be learned about celiac associated genes. Recently they have discovered up to 27 different genes that are associated. Your body has clearly given you the answer. Stay gluten free and continue to heal. -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free On Friday
ravenwoodglass replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may want to call the maker and ask about the gluten statis of the meds and supplements. Some will say they are gluten, soy etc free on the label but I don't know about the ones your taking. Some supplements can have wheat and barley grass and still be labeled gluten free so do read all ingredients. As for the script the bottle may have the maker and if... -
Dapsone can be a pretty toxic med. IMHO it was irresponsible of your doctor to give you a 'trial' as a form of diagnosis. See if you can get of biopsy done by a derm who is familiar with DH. They need to biopsy the area next to an active lesion not the lesion itself and the lab needs to be looking for DH. If you strongly suspect DH then the best 'med' for...

ARCHIVED Low Testosterone, Hypothyroid And Adrenal Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to landslide's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Some of us just don't show up in blood tests. If your tests were 10 years ago then they might be positive by now also. However you don't need a doctors permission to eat gluten free. There is a good chance that the problems you are experiencing, if they are related to undiagnosed celiac, will resolve on the diet. You have nothing to lose by going strictly... -
Is there anything that changed before the attacks started to happen? A new script med or a refill of a generic? A new supplement, toiletries, has something in your diet changed like going to more restaurants or eating more processed foods? Are you doing home remodeling that includes wall paper application or removal or drywall work? A new hobby that uses...

ARCHIVED Teen Advantage Complete Multivitamin, For Him
ravenwoodglass replied to Iansmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If they are a Wegmans brand product call them at the 1-800-wegmans number and ask. They are really good about knowing whether what they put under their label is gluten-free or not. They might need to call you back but they will get back to you. Also do make sure that you have his iron levels checked by your doctor before you supplement iron. Too much can... -
ARCHIVED I'm An Enigma To Myself!
ravenwoodglass replied to youareloveyouarelight's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. Hopefully you are starting to feel a bit better although it can take a while. It is too bad the doctor didn't do a celiac panel before you went gluten free but the Enterolab tests may give you some answers gluten wise even though they don't technically diagnose celiac. I also had that horrible itch and it is torture. It isn't like you... -
ARCHIVED Going Gluten Free On Friday
ravenwoodglass replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Happy Birthday! The filling for Key Lime Pie is likely already gluten free so you only need to find a crust you like. There are cookies that can be crushed, pie shells that are ready made and I am sure someone has posted a pie crust recipe or ask for one in the recipes section. I'm sure within a couple months or so you will be eating a yummy key lime pie... -
ARCHIVED Advice Please On Cost Of Gluten Free Bread
ravenwoodglass replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I forgot to mention pasta. I have tried a few of the gluten-free specialty pastas. Some are quite good but do start checking for doneness about 1/2 way through the cook time they give on the package. I usually get Thai Kitchen Rice Noodles in the Oriental section of my grocery store. They are inexpensive but only have one like angel hair pasta, my favorite... -
ARCHIVED Advice Please On Cost Of Gluten Free Bread
ravenwoodglass replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found it to be less expensive to just buy bread. Between the expense of all the different flours and gums and such it was really pricey when I first started both in dollars and time. But back then there weren't many gluten free bread options that were not like eating either a brick or styrofoam. Now I go with Udi's which is the least expensive one I have... -
ARCHIVED Daughter Blood Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Mummyto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes that does look high. Did they do any other celiac testing than just the TTG and was the IGA the total IGA or the antigliadin IGA and if it was the antigliadin IGA did they do a total IGA?
