  1. I am glad you were able to get a diagnosis and will now be eating safely for you and the baby. I do disagree with the doctor wanting you to do a challenge after the baby is born. I would think long and hard about agreeing to that. You would need to go back on gluten for about 3 months and the object of the challenge when a GI does it is to redamage your...
  2. As soon as the biopsy is done go gluten free, don't wait for the results. A tTG of 56 is rather high, it is not a low positive. Your B12 levels are on the low side, it would be helpful if you had previous B12 testing to compare it to as then a drop off in levels would be more obvious. Mine was tested repeatedly over the course of a couple of years, I was...
  3. I am glad you got in to see this doctor quickly. I think a lot of us can identify with being blown off by doctors and being told we are hypocondriacs. It does make us leary of doctors after years of it. I am hoping that the tests turn out well and that it turns out that perhaps you do have gluten sneaking in, your symptoms could also be from that but the...
  4. I am glad to hear she is willing to try the diet. Hopefully you will have a very differnt DD in a short while if she follows it strictly. We have a teen section here also where she might be able to get some support from her peers. When we first start the diet some of us will go through a withdrawl so if she gets moodier for a week or two ride it out as...
  5. It is doubtful that it is bleeding coloring your stool on the way your describing. Blood would show up as red streaks or if the bleeding is farther up in the intestines the stool would be black and tarry. If this concerns you do contact your doctor but I don't think you have anything to be concerned about.
  6. Welcome to the board. I couldn't put it any better than the previous poster and agree fully. I would start supplementing your B12 in a sublingual gluten-free form. It can take a while for the blood levels to get down to the bottom of the scale after your body stops being able to absorb and process it properly. In addition if you take a multi with folate...
  7. Congrats on the impending little one. I agree that the home should be gluten-free. You need to stick up for yourself with them. You need to be able to rest and care for the baby, and that is what they are coming to help for to begin with. It is your home and you have a right to ask, no demand, that they do all they can to keep you safe. It will be easier...
  8. Yes I do work with glass. I do mosaics mostly on clear glass or mirrors. I have always wanted to learn fusing, I even bought a kiln a long time ago. It still sits unused at this point. Hopefully a class at Corning Glass is in my future in both fusing and how to properly work with lead came. I love sunlight shining through colors and spaying them all over...
  9. They may have been yummy but were those gluten 'comfort foods' worth the price you are paying now? The rash you describe could very well be DH, especially if when it heals it leaves purpleish coloured scars. While the armpit may not be someplace one usually hears of with a DH outbreak they can show up there. I had them there quite often and they tended...
  10. Mucous in your digestive system forms because your body is trying to protect itself. It can take a while for a reaction to completely resolve so your system may still be trying to protect you.
  11. The first sentence here explains it the same way that I would. Once your body starts the antibody reaction those antibodies are going to start a cascade thoughout the entire system. Celiac is an autoimmune mediated disorder and it only takes a very tiny amount to start that antibody reaction going again, especially in the beginning when there are still...
  12. I would look for a "Writer's Market" there is a lot of useful info in these. I believe they come out yearly. Your local library may have one. You might be able to get a copy on an auction site or through a bookstore also. I used the Poet's Market for a bit and found it very useful. The books tell a lot about the submission requirements for different venues...
  13. It does take a while for the antibodies to leave the skin. We also can become more sensitive to small amounts of gluten which would cause the outbreaks to get worse at first. When I was first diagnosed my DH was severe and when glutened it would come right back as the first symptom. Now after 7 years gluten-free DH is the last symptom to appear on the rare...
  14. How do you feel? With the numbers dropping ( I misread your first post and thought they were going up) if you are feeling much better I wouldn't worry about it. If your still having symptoms, other than perhaps an occasional glutening that we all go though in the beginning, then perhaps go over everything again to be sure. It looks like you have gone from...
  15. And you are entitled to your opinion. Please do check the link provided by the previous poster and also check out what the NIH has to say about it here Open Original Shared Link "Clusters of small blisters that persistently break out on the elbows, knees, buttocks, back, or scalp. These symptoms are the hallmarks of dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), a...
  16. I do have to disagree with this. Celiac antibodies can attack pretty much any organ of the body. While it is true that some with DH will not have gut symptoms they do still have celiac. In additon at times the gut symptoms may be mild for awhile or may present in ways that are not just the D that most of us think of. It wasn't a coincedence that when...
  17. I usually avoid any product with this warning. That said I have eaten Dove chocolate without any problems.
  18. Personally since they dont' acknowledge gluten but only the 8 major allergens I would not trust this product. Gluten is more than wheat and it seems some companies just ignore that fact and this seems to be one of them.
  19. You could try dropping both and then adding them in one at a time after the pain abates. Also did you check to be certain that all the stuff the doctor gave him is gluten free? Doctors don't know so don't assume just cause a doctor handed it to you it is safe for him. Does your son get enough soluable and insoluble fiber? Fruits and veggies and perhaps...
  20. I am assuming that since you are going in for an endo that you have not been diagnosed yet? Am I right about that? Are you still eating gluten? You need to be to have the endo have any chance of being positive and even then false negatives are all too common. Are you currently being treated for the parasites? Some of the treatments can make folks unwell...
  21. Have you asked your doctors directly to do celiac screening on you? Blood test and possibly even biopsy would be your first steps to a doctor's diagnosis. Also ask them to check if you are anemic and your levels for Vit D. You say you are trying out the diet, this is good but if you want a doctor's diagnosis you do need to be eating gluten. In the...
  22. Glad to hear you decided to give the diet a shot. I noticed your in PA. There are some Wegmans markets there if there is one near you shopping is easier with them because they label all gluten-free stuff with the Circle G. The exception to this is stuff like coffee which is only a single ingredient. The best way to start is with whole unprocessed foods...
  23. When in doubt call the company. Chances are it is safe but it is a good idea to check on items that have 'natural flavors' just to be certain. A bonus to calling is that many companies will send coupons when you call with questions.
  24. I had the same result on the diet. It is a good feeling to toss those pills and in my case the inhalor. I am glad you are doing so well and seeing these fall by the wayside.
