  1. I am glad to hear that you are coping with the need for the diet. It is hard at first. It is easier if you can stick with whole naturally gluten free foods. I find a crock pot and rice cooker to help a great deal. Roasted fresh meats and veggies are really easy, filling and at least in my house provide more than a days worth of cooked meat to add to stuff...
  2. Welcome Susan. This site does make things so much easier. Feel free to ask any questions you need to and venting is allowed also. I hope you are feeling better soon.
  3. I took this med for a week. I am really sensitive but don't think I had a gluten reaction. That said I was a total zombie on this med and by the 3rd day didn't care about anything. Didn't care if I ate, didn't care if I went outside, didn't care if I even moved. I have really bad anxiety but I stopped the med anyway and we went with Xanax at my next appointment...
  4. A lot of probiotics have dairy and I noticed your sig says you are lactose intolerant. Do you like saurkraut? If you do you could try eating that once a day for a bit instead as it has the same good stuff as the bottled probiotics. If you have issues with dairy that may be causing the C.
  5. Hi Beth, Try taking some Pepto Bismal Liquid and see if that helps a bit. The pain is likely from damage from eating the gluten. It may take a few more days back on the diet for it to resolve. Do not go back to eating gluten if the biopsies are negative. You may have healed on the diet, I am assuming that you were getting some symptom relief gluten free...
  6. If you had a positive biopsy you are diagnosed by what they call the 'Gold Standard'. The doctors may not feel there is any need for blood work. Call your doctors office and ask to speak to the doctor or a nurse. They can call in the order for the blood work or you can pick it up if they feel it is needed.
  7. That would get any of us but is only an issue with the premade drink. Is that the one that has gotten you? Barley gluten is not in the powder that you mix at home with your own milk except for the choco malt.
  8. Thanks for posting this. I also will be checking it out.
  9. Welcome. You have found a great place for info and support. Make sure you keep eating a full gluten diet until the tests are completed. After testing is done you will want to start the diet no matter what the results are as false negatives are not uncommom.
  10. Good article. I like that she advises getting iodine from foods and sea salt. One heads up though for those that want to do the iodine patch test. You don't want to do this if you have DH as it will reactivate the antibodies and cause a flare up. The oldfashioned way to test for DH was to apply iodine to skin and watch for a reaction.
  11. See your regular doctor first then if needed he will refer you to a GI. GERD can be a symptom of celiac or other intolerances. Are you gluten free? If so you may have gluten sneaking in somewhere or may have another intolerance. You also could have an issue with dairy or soy, you may want to eliminate those one at a time and see if symptoms resolve. ...
  12. I agree with this. The exception would be if the child is very ill and then most times it would be found with an endo not with blood testing. It is not that very young children don't ever have celiac but that the blood tests are very often a false negative. In countries where they screen for celiac they test at age 4 and again at puberty. Watching the...
  13. If you think the Stevia may be an issue cut it out for a couple of weeks. Also are you using pure stevia or is a mix of stevia and something else? Are you allergic to ragweed? Stevia is related to ragweed and if you are allergic to ragweed you might react to stevia also. If you do decide to drop stevia I would not replace it with sugar alcohols as many...
  14. The ones that have gluten are the ready to drink called Essentials. If you read farther down it does state that the powdered with the exception of the Chocolate Malt are gluten free. That can be CC issues with any product made in a plant that processes gluten but I am pretty sensitive and drink the plain chocolate with no problems. From the link to...
  15. I would cut the soy out for a bit and see if that makes a difference. If you don't improve after a week or two then take out casien. Casien will be clearly labeled on products as it is a form or dairy and is often found in lactose free products as well as margarine and other stuff. You are early in the diet, are you eating mostly unprocessed foods? ...
  16. I am glad you got results that show you are on the right track. Now you can stop wondering and do the diet strictly along with eliminating casein and hopefully soon the fecal fat score will go down to normal levels. With your yeast score right at the cut off you might consider trying to reduce or cut that also. Happy healing.
  17. Have you tried Pepto Bismal Liquid? That might help but what would be even better would be figuring out what is causing the issue and avoiding it.
  18. Yea I loved their Smooth as Silk conditioner. Perhaps I have issues because I have both an intolerance and an actual allergy to soy. I really miss their products.
  19. IMHO you are already 'diagnosed'. You had issues that went away with the diet, you have a family member who has been diagnosed and on occasions when you have had a slip up you became severely ill. IMHO the only thing you have to gain by trying for an 'official' diagnosis is months of pain and even after all that you would go through there is always the...
  20. On the disability issue, just go into your local social security office. They will give you an appointment to come in and apply and you may be able to get it for your son also which will increase the amount you get a month. My appointment to apply took about 2 to 3 hours but they were very nice. You will want to bring in the names of all your doctors and...
  21. Just a note since you mention that you have issues with soy. Someone mentioned the Giovanni line of products. The Giovanni line is great if you don't have issues with soy but if you do they will not be for you. Everything I have checked has soy in it.
  22. I have multiple tatoos including a very large one on my back. The only time I ever reacted to any tatoo was when the artist had their puppy in the shop. I am allerigic to dogs, or was before I was diagnosed celiac anyway. That was the last tatoo I got and I was very ill from celiac when I got it. The reaction just made me lose pigment in splotches. I...
  23. You will be okay. You have already shown you have a great deal of strength in taking the steps needed to protect yourself and your son. Let me assure you that he will not be able to take him from you. I am sure your lawyer will contact your doctors and if the lawyer reccommends that you go to child protective services to keep him from hurting your boy...
  24. I am glad you got through it okay and are now able to go back to being gluten free and continue the healing.
  25. You should also have your doctor run a stool test for parasites.
