  1. For me there is a direct corelation between gluten and blood sugar levels. I was diagnosed diabetic when I went to my doctor after a glutening. He wanted to push meds which I refused. I started tracking my blood sugar, morning, pre and post meals and before bed. After 9 months of this and 3 AIC measures below 6 we realized it was the glutening that was...
  2. I sure do hope that is the result. I have been telling dentists that I am celiac now for 5 years and have only had one who took it seriously and actually checked the products. The dentist I used for years just wrote celiac in my chart and checked absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!! I have called and asked if the dentists treated celiacs and heard 'sure we do we...
  3. His last name and the name of the clinic are enough for the letter. I think this was a great idea and will most likely help you a lot. Do access those doctors numbers that they gave you also, you may get better treatment from one of those than from the walk-in. It is not surprising that you have a messed up cycle, stress and illness can do that. I hope...
  4. Enterolab can test you for both soy and casien antibodies. They do this by looking for antibodies in the stool. They were quite helpful to me when I had gotten diverticulitis and then had an idiot doctor prescribe a new on the market very toxic and powerful antibiotic drug that I had an allergy to and it caused pancreatitis. After eliminating both I finally...
  5. Look for sample sizes and groupings also when you shop. I don't know if all companies do this but I know Ener-g does. My DS actually likes their bread and used to order the sample sizes to make sure stuff didn't go bad before he got the chance to eat it all. Scotts site here has a lot of stuff and do check out Kinnickinick also.
  6. I can't wait. The last 5 years of my illness aged me 20. I am now even starting to understand why folks would want a face lift. I thought finding a safe haircolor was the greatest this has me thinking about 'prettying myself up' and finding someplace to go sometime soon. I haven't done that is soooo long. I also had a hard time figuring out what...
  7. Blondie what is the name of the soap? It appears to be coconut oil based and safe but you really have to be a chemist sometimes to figure things out. Some brands will clearly list gluten ingredients like Dove, Unilever, Giovanni, Suave and more. Also a good way to try and check any individual product or companies gluten statis is to put the name of the...
  8. Another possibility, do you have forced air heat? I wake up almost every morning with a sore throat when my heat is going. I got a deflector for the vent by my bed so it doesn't blow on me at night, that and drinking more water seem to help a bit. Something to try to ease the throat symptoms would be honey. That will soothe your throat and also has...
  9. You just did a gluten challenge and boy was it positive. Don't be too hard on yourself at least now you know for sure. Unfortuantely there is no immediate solution. If you can possibly delay what you needed to do today it might be a good idea. One thing that helps me a great deal with the stomach pain is Pepto Bismal. Also once the big D hits things...
  10. You may find this link helpful, Open Original Shared Link There are celiacs that can tolerate gluten distilled grains but there are those of us who don't. The only way to tell if you are one of them is to avoid it until you are symptom free than challenge with it and look for a reaction. You do want to avoid fountain beverages, even if the companies...
  11. Most of them are okay but some balsamic vinagers will have added flavors to them. Have you called the maker to ask if this is gluten-free? That would be my first step. Also some food companies will change formulas or plants, this could make something you have eaten that was safe now unsafe. When cereals decided it is healthier to be multigrain many added...
  12. It is sooo confusing at first. It doesn't help that in general the medical professionals know less about celiac than those of us who have been diagnosed and researching for years. Too bad many won't even take the time to look at valid research even if we shove it under their noses in black and white.
  13. Simple answer, yes. Call the company and ask if it is safe whenever you see broth or natural flavors.
  14. Ya gotta love a government which tells us how much poison we can have. This makes me angrier than anything else at this point. Nothing like an FDA that cares more about big business than about the people they are supposed to protect. They did this regulation specifically so that companies can keep a gluten free label on food that is not so they can......
  15. I wondered if that was it. Just a note about testing, you may not pay for it cash wise but if you are celiac and they have not acknowledged that many of the preperations that they use in testing, like barium and such are not safe and you risk making yourself very sick. Do give the diet a good try, even if you decide to let him look for other stuff....
  16. We are all here for you to the extent that we can be. It sounds like a real nightmare experience. I hope your pain is relieved soon. It does sound like it could be gallbladder or liver problems and the way you were treated was terrible. I would try to use a payphone or a freinds phone to get ahold of a doctor rather than waiting till I had minutes. If...
  17. Can you get the makers name off of the box and call them and ask about the gloves? Most are going to be okay but on occasion the powder will be a problem. The best way to tell would be by calling. Something else you may want to look at is the soap you use and any lotions that are by the sink. The last time I was able to find a celiac savvy dentist she...
  18. "Maybe we can't hold the "food industry" responsible but I believe the food all of us eat needs to change. " The main issue I have with the food industry is 'truth in labeling'. I want food that is gluten free to either be gluten free by ingredients and manufacturing or to be labeled as 'made in a factory'. If it contains any gluten ingredients even...
  19. Rosebud The majority of people with celiac disease or gluten intoleance do not have symptoms that show up immediately. Gluten reactions are delayed for many whether 'celiac' or 'gluten intolerant'. Gluten causes an immune mediated response, this creates other autoimmune problems because the body starts to attack itself in the fight against gluten. ...
  20. Here is another good source for this info from the celiac sprue association. I am one of those celiacs who react to gluten grains even if not distilled. The only way to know for sure if you will is to try them when you are feeling good and not consuming anything else that is risky. Open Original Shared Link
  21. My celiac was found with an elimination diet prescribed by my allergist, MD. My diagnosis was confirmed by my GI. It was confirmed and called celiac not Gluten Intolerance most likely because the challenge he ordered caused a severe GI bleed on the morning of the endo. I had been gluten free for 2 months and the severe D with bleeding was caused by only...
  22. Poppet where are you hearing about false positives? I have never heard of that, false negatives abound but false positives just do not exist. Before you go through a bout of expensive testing if the test comes out negative try the diet for a bit. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you are still having problems after a couple of months...
  23. This is a very good point. I would suggest getting her onto a B12 sublingual supplement. That may help a bit. You have already gotten some great advice. Do check into the possiblity that she may be getting CC'd by stuff at school, does she have an art class that would be one of the most likely places. Also do you have any pets? If so please check their...
  24. Thanks so much for posting this. I haven't been able to wear makeup in sooooo long. I am looking forward to recieving my samples and was overjoyed to see they take paypal. So nice not to have to use my charge card this time of year. Perhaps it can get that awful green tinge out of my face, now if I could just gain some weight and get rid of that...
  25. It is hard at first but it is doable. Any questions you need to ask please do so. We all make mistakes at first, heck mine continued for almost 2 years and I still make them now and then. It will be so worth it in the end though if it helps. I was so happy to just have one pain free day and one nights sleep without being awoken by cramps, then it wasn...
