  1. If the product is made in the US and it just says vinager by law it is supposed to be apple cider. It should be safe if it just says vinager. Also some distilled vinagers are derived from corn and wood, as someone who does have issues with distilled gluten grains I have never had an issue with distilled derived from those.
  2. I have DH and the use of gluten containing feminine products will give me very painful rashes and blisters. While the absorption through the mucous membranes may not effect the gut they will produce an antibody reaction and those of us who are subject to the neuro or joint effects of gluten can have symptoms result from mucous membrane contact.
  3. All I can speak of is my own experience. While the concensus is out on whether gluten 'causes' autoimmune disease for me the avoidance of it has put my autoimmune diseases in complete remission. Very little is know about celiac when you get right down to it, it is doubtful that they have even found all the genes for it yet. It can cause severe autoimmune...
  4. I totally agree with this. In addition gluten can be absorbed by and effect mucus membranes this includes in the mouth, eyes, nose and for us ladies the 'personal areas'. Some countries will use a gluten suppository and then biopsy the rectal tissue 3 hours later to diagnose us and there is currently a form of testing that would be done by using the mucous...
  5. I loved the stuff when I could still have corn, my DS will eat a whole bag dry if you turn your back. I called the manufacturor when I first saw this and talked to the owner himself about 6 months ago just before they got into Wegmans. They do not use any wheat products at the plant at all but they do use oats in some other stuff they make. I think that...
  6. The labels on the potato vodkas will clearly say potato on them I think one of them was something like Luchswaka, I know the spelling is wrong but perhaps it will jog someone else's memory. They are always a top shelp item and your liquor store person will be able to help you identify them. Okay now I want a vodka and lemonade. ......... If I give into...
  7. I do not know for sure as I have never used or seen this product but many supplements are now checked for gluten and some companies are good about labeling, have you considered looking for one or two gluten free supplements that might give you the same levels of vitamins? It might be the safest way to go.
  8. What helps me most is to try and concentrate on others and their problems rather than my own. I will clean out closets and or cupboards with the intent of donating the goods to others. Finding a youth group or a nursing home that could use a talent you have or even just someone to read to or talk to resident can help. It also can help to use a trick...
  9. Don't give up on doctors, just give up on the one you have. Many doctors in this country are woefully uninformed about celiac, what they are taught about it in classes is incomplete at best. The last poster had some valid points but the most valid in my humble opinion are these, "You should make sure that you are actually gluten-free if you think you...
  10. I assume when you say beer you mean gluten free beer. The celiac sprue association has some good guidelines as to alcohol for celiacs I am providing you with a link. Open Original Shared Link Many of us tolerate gluten grain alcohols but many do not. You might want to try a potato vodka or a clear rum or tequila next time you are out. Wine is...
  11. I am a great fan of Kinnikinick, try their bread also, the Italian is real good. Just remember to zap it or toast it it improves the flavor and texture a great deal. Gluten Free Pantry makes a French Bread Mix that is great for pizza. It is very sticky and hard to spread right after mixing but I get it cold or freeze and thaw it then spread. It is very...
  12. I use the Kinnikinick hamburger with no problems. Are you microwaving them before you either eat or toast them? We need to do that with most of our breads.
  13. Within a few minutes if I have injested enough I will have the room jerk suddenly, it feels like I am falling but I am not. My tummy will start to rumble also in the first hour or so. Within 24 hours I will usually have stomach and back pain, a migraine and deep depression. This will lift by day 3 when the D hits full force. I then have about 2 more weeks...
  14. Any generic is risky make sure you check it. Just a bit of a heads up on the levaquin, if you notice any unusual symptoms or any changes in bowel habits other than the usual antibiotic effects make sure you notify your doctor quickly. You also need to be careful with it if you have blood sugar issues. If you do check your sugar often. The nastyest side...
  15. Great advice but I doubt that when someone is laying in front of a medic with parts of their bodies blown to pieces that they are going to have the time or resources to check for gluten.
  16. The offers to send over food is a great thought, however.... If someone is fighting in Iraq they can not rely on care packages from home to remain gluten-free. For one thing the rucksack these guys carry weighs about 75 lbs (my 100 lb celiac son weighed his before his knees were blown out and he was discharged prediagnosis) I cannot imagine someone trying...
  17. My son and I both react to gluten grain alcohols. Not everyone does. We become drunk much quicker and suffer the same after effects we do with a gluten food. One gluten grain vodka and I will be ill for over a week and have memory loss but I can have two or three potato vodkas or glasses of wine without even a hint of a hangover. I used to even feel 'drunk...
  18. You may want to call the company directly and ask what form of distllled vinager they use. There are some of us that will react to gluten grain derived vinagers but since not all of us do even if they use a gluten vinager they may not consider it to be gluten. May not be the case for you all but it is something that 2 of us in our family have to be careful...
  19. I found out this the hard way also. The NIH has a database of nonfood item containing gluten, drywall is on that list as is the mud that is used to finish. I have lost the link to it but you may be able to google it. Also the majority of wallpapers also have gluten pastes. I am not sure about things like paint but I wear gloves and a mask now when doing...
  20. My son was in the Army with undiagnosed celiac. He was not diagnosed until after he had gone through way to much to disclose here. Suffice to say the last six months were the worst of my life, I almost lost him. Celiac can effect mental health as well as physical. Please let your command know. It is not a failure on your part, you could not control it...
  21. Unfortunately that is the case for me. Ataxia and some other nerve damage are the only residual damage that I have now after 5 years gluten-free. The ataxia has gotten better but it has not resolved completely. It now seems to be related most to a change in visual focus. I no longer need canes to get around but going down stairs and climbing a ladder...
  22. Simply put, no and no. Wheat free many times will still have barley or oats. Some consider oats okay but the processing of oats make them extrememly risky and most of us avoid them.
  23. Very well put. Trusting neg blood tests almost cost me my life and delayed my diagnosis by many painful years leaving me with residual brain and nerve damage that is most likely permanent. Your bodies positive reaction to a gluten free diet is the best diagnostic test there is. Even my GI has said that our methods of testing for celiac are woefully inaccurate...
  24. If your test was at all postive, even one point it is positive. Even if it had been totally negative it still would not mean for sure you are not celiac. I have always been blood test negative even when close to death and as for the rest of my family they all had low positives, one member was only positive by one point but all have benifited greatly by...
  25. Carmel coloring can be derived from barley. This product uses corn which isn't a problem but it is an ingredient that should trigger a phone call.
