ARCHIVED Liver Functions Linked To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to SasaMinks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was seeing a physical therapist who kept insisting that I see an allergist who would deal with intolerances as well as true allergies. After she nagged me for a couple months saying she was sure something autoimmune was going on I finally made the effort to find one. Not easy. He tested me for true allergies. I was positive for 98 out of 99 things tested... -
ARCHIVED Bad Experience At My Endoscopy Today :(
ravenwoodglass replied to Miss-Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) It sounds like there was no anesthesiologist present at your procedure. I had a similiar experience when I had a colonoscopy and endo done by a GI who did the sedation himself. It is an awful experience and I do feel for you... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think A Person Can "recover" From Gluten Intolerance?
ravenwoodglass replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As a sero-negative but firmly diagnosed celiac IMHO NCGI and Celiac are both the same thing. It is known that folks with celiac can go through a 'honeymoon' period after being gluten free for a while. This was seen most often in children diagnosed when they hit their teen years and lead to medical folks thinking that celiac could be 'outgrown' in times past... -
ARCHIVED Could Be Coincidence
ravenwoodglass replied to Dozey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since celiac is an autoimmune disease just cutting down on gluten won't help. You don't have to buy expensive gluten free specialty foods to do a true gluten free trial. Go with whole unprocessed foods like fruit, veggies, beans, rice and fresh meats. To really tell if gluten is an issue for you all gluten needs to be cut out. If you are still in the testing... -
ARCHIVED Opt For Genetic Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to SeekingSarah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While genetic testing is interesting it can not rule celiac in or out firmly so it is not diagnostic. There are people with the genes who don't have celiac and diagnosed celiacs who don't have one of the two most common celiac genes. I am an example of one of the latter. After you are done with all the testing you choose to have done then do the best (IMHO... -
ARCHIVED Chew Or Not To Chew Celiact
ravenwoodglass replied to Jclegg's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it was a chewable tablet it would say so on the label. Swallow it whole. As an aside you may be able to get higher levels of the vitamins we need with regular gluten-free vitamins at a much lower price. If your doctor will check your vitamin levels you can pinpoint what you need to take mega doses of more easily. -
ARCHIVED Liver Functions Linked To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to SasaMinks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes celiac seems to be able to effect liver function. Many of us see those levels go back to normal after being gluten free for a while. Sugardale, if you are planning on testing for celiac do get back on gluten pronto. You need to be on a regular gluten diet or the tests will come back a false negative. Even on gluten the tests can be false negative so... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Pancreas Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa79's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also suggest you see a podiatrist. I had something called Morton's Neuroma in my feet. A podiatrist was able to treat them sucessfully. They are very painful lumps. I tried to paste a link from the Mayo Clinic but wasn't able to so you might want to do a search for their site. They have nothing to do with the pancreas and mine were taken care of with special... -
ARCHIVED Mushroom (Neroli) Memorial Thread
ravenwoodglass replied to Scott Adams's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have just seen this. She was so kind, knowledgeable and it was an honor to have known her on this board. She will be missed greatly. -
ARCHIVED Awesome Coupons For Glutino And Udi's
ravenwoodglass replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went into the site to print off another Udi's coupon this morning. Instead of being able to print them off I got a message asking me to input my zip code. It then said they had no stores within 50 miles of my zip so I wasn't able to access the coupons again. Oh well I do still have a couple Glutino coupons that they let me print off a couple days ago. -
ARCHIVED Awesome Coupons For Glutino And Udi's
ravenwoodglass replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks so much for posting. I will admit I had my doubts that my store would take these but I used the Udi's yesterday. Great to pay less than $5 for a loaf of bread. Since my income is very low these will permit me to actually buy some fresh veggies before my garden starts to produce! -
ARCHIVED Lost A Parent To Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to dani nero's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry to hear of your loss. I think there are likely many of us who have lost parents to causes that may be linked to celiac. I lost my Mom young to cancer and lost my Dad last month. Since I have two copies of the same celiac gene both of my parents also had that gene. My Mom undoubtedly was an undiagnosed celiac. Her symptoms were the same as mine became... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With Anger At Doctors
ravenwoodglass replied to greenbeanie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You poor thing. I know what you're going through as I went through the same. If your new doctor refuses to test you ask for a referral to a GI doctor. Some are getting better at diagnosing us. If one wants to do a colonoscopy INSIST they also do an endoscopy to look for celiac. Another route to diagnosis might be to look for a dermatologist who is knowledgeable... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Move Back
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Didn't think you would. Should have used a smiley face I guess. Glad the day is looking up for you. You certainly have used up your bad luck comes in three's quota today. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pregnant Glucose Test
ravenwoodglass replied to Babycakes21404's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If your in the US if the glucose is derived from wheat it should say so on the label. If you are in doubt call the maker. Usually if you put their name in a search engine with the words 'contact information' you can get the phone number.- 3 replies

ARCHIVED I Want To Move Back
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bart what I had to do when I needed a credit card to order stuff for my now defunct business was to get a secured card. You go to a bank or credit union with a couple hundred dollars. That is deposited and you are given a card with a limit equal to the amount you deposited. Usually you will get interest on that deposit and many times after you have used the... -
ARCHIVED "people With A Preexisting Condition"
ravenwoodglass replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It sounds like you are one of us for whom gluten is addictive. You have to beat this! Your life and quality of life depend on it. It is hard and you may go through a form of withdrawl. We are here to help in any way we can. You can do it! -
ARCHIVED Rheumatoid Arthritis Other Symptoms And Celiacs
ravenwoodglass replied to Dancer's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My RA has been in remission since a few months into the gluten free diet. For complete relief I found I also had to drop soy but that may not be the case for you. I was also prescribed the same drugs you were (and loads more!} and found them not to help at all. I hope you get some relief from the diet but it can take time. If you need a diagnosis of celiac... -
ARCHIVED "people With A Preexisting Condition"
ravenwoodglass replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are continueing to get glutened, which is the impression I got from another of your posts, your body is going to be so busy fighting the gluten that it won't be able to fight off other stuff. I have worked in schools and with the public for years and I used to catch everything that was going around pre gluten free but very rarely get ill now. That... -
ARCHIVED Shocked And Overwhelmed
ravenwoodglass replied to slickdaddy0077's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You have already gotten some great advice. I do have to add though to check your Xanax. I take the generic form, alprazolam made by Sandoz, because the name brand was found not to be gluten free. That may have changed since I have been on it for a while. The company that makes what you take should be either on the label or you can ask your pharmacey for the... -
ARCHIVED Dq9 Is Also A Celiac Gene
ravenwoodglass replied to nora-n's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to see this is finally being recognized. I have a daughter who was diagnosed by both blood and biopsy and then told years later that the diagnosis was false because she didn't have DQ2 or DQ8. Hopefully this will eventually help her realize those 'experts' were wrong. -
ARCHIVED Good Day Hang Over
ravenwoodglass replied to Brandiwine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Perhaps you over did it a bit? I find I feel real awful for a few days if I am more active than usual because my body just isn't up to it. -
ARCHIVED Finally Got Into Rheumatology Triage
ravenwoodglass replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gee sounds like you saw the same Rheumy I did. Sorry that she could not be more helpful. For me cutting out soy in addition to the gluten made a big difference. Don't know if that would be the case for you or if you already have. Healing can take a long time but I hope you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Numbness On Head And Face (Dizziness)
ravenwoodglass replied to English Chris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the previous poster. Sounds like you may have gluten ataxia which can cause symptoms much like MS. Gluten ataxia can cause brain lesions similiar to the lesions you would see with MS. So if you do have a scan make sure they also do a spinal tap if they think you do have MS. The lesions are similiar but you won't find the debris in the spinal...- 5 replies

ravenwoodglass replied to CommonTater's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Saw these recently and they looked so good. Read the package. Put them back on the shelf.
