  1. It is gluten free but not grain free as it has corn as one of the first ingredients. When my little dog was at the shelter she was very reluctant to eat that brand and lost 2 lbs and a lot of hair before I adopted her. I let my vet talk me into trying the one for sensitive stomachs, a different one than they fed at the shelter, and she would nibble at it...
  2. And unfortunately some doctors will have a patient with both positive blood and biopsy but then gene test and if one of those 2 genes are not present will tell the patient the blood and biopsy were false positives.
  3. Just because we are diagnosed celiac doesn't mean everything from that point on is gluten related. Time to head back to your doctor and see if you may also have some other issue that has cropped up.
  4. Dropping dairy again for a bit might be a good idea. You may be reacting to the milk protein, casien, rather than the milk sugar, lactose. Hope your feeling better soon.
  5. Meat that has not had any marinades or seasonings added to it is not a gluten concern at all. If you are new to the diet things will be up and down for a while. Go with whole unprocessed simple foods as much as you can.
  6. Have you checked to make sure all the meds and supplements you are taking are gluten free? For example you mention Zanax. Name brand is not gluten free but the generic Alprazolam (Sandoz) is safe. Do make sure to check with the maker to be sure all are okay as even a tiny bit of gluten can keep nervous system issues going. I hope things are going better...
  7. If you really need a doctor to tell you what your body already has then you need to get back on gluten for about 3 months and go to your GP and ask for a celiac panel. Be aware that even then you could have a false negative.
  8. Some of us have additional intolerances like to soy and dairy. Maybe you could try doing a diet and symptom journal and see if any pattern appears.
  9. Consider asking to be on a cancelation list for the biopsy so it can be moved up if possible and as soon as the biopsy is done do a strict trial of the diet. He can get plenty of high calorie foods on the gluten free diet. I don't know where doctors get the idea that the gluten-free diet is low calorie. It's not like all we can eat is carrots and lettuce...
  10. Since you are seeing good results on the diet and the chance of a false negative on testing is pretty high personally I would just keep doing what you are doing.
  11. It is lactose free but is it casien free? You may be reacting to the milk protein (casien) rather than the milk sugar (lactose) If you can go with as much whole naturally gluten free food as you can. It is much easier at first.
  12. What kind of fish oil are you taking? I take plain Cod Liver Oil capsules on occasion that are just CLO. Some of the fish oils have soy oil added to them so those are out for me. Is your oil just the oil or is it one of the brands that have soy added?
  13. IMHO I would wait until you have been on the diet strictly for a bit. Be aware also that false negatives on testing for celiac are really common so do give the diet a strict try after testing no matter what the test results are. I show false negatives on testing and a couple months before I was finally diagnosed I was told I would be in a wheelchair within...
  14. As the previous poster mentioned gluten ataxia will cause bright spots, UBOs on a brain MRI. Some neuros will want to do a spinal tap after finding the UBOs to be certain it is MS. The spinal itself is not bad but you have to stay prone afterwards for quite a while. Mine was done in the ER (don't know why the neuro wanted it done there) so I had to get up...
  15. Sorry you got glutened. If you need to paper again just be sure to wear gloves and a mask. That also applies if you are removing wallpaper. Hope you're feeling better soon.
  16. They sure are easy and a great way to use up bananas or blueberries before they turn bad. I really like the Pamela's baking mix for muffins. So easy to make and I find they freeze well. If I don't freeze half the batch I will eat them all the first day.
  17. If eating gluten gives you a headache and makes you exhausted it may be affecting your brain and nervous system. The antibodies are mounting an attack against all your organs. I do hope you can find the willpower to keep yourself healthy and on the diet. It is hard but you don't want to end up with damage that can't be undone. GI is no less serious than celiac...
  18. No one is trying to make you feel stupid for wanting to do this they are simply letting you know that it is a very dangerous thing for us to do. If you haven't been gluten-free very long please know your body will get more regular once gluten is gone from your diet. Some of us, myself included need to drop other things, for me it is soy as that binds me...
  19. Yea but in the US almost no one uses those 'benefits' because you can only deduct as a medical expense when your expenses reach a certain portion of your income. You need to record the price of gluten foods when you purchase gluten-free specialty foods, saving all reciepts and can only deduct the difference, and it sets you up for an IRS audit.
  20. You don't ourgrow celiac. Your doctor is woefully ignorant if he/she thinks there aren't even any tests for it! Since the only treatment is the diet it would be good for you to go ahead and get back on it. Even if you only have a couple symptoms now the antibodies are still attacking your organs including your brain.
  21. IMHO the more important question is how did your body react to the challenge? If you saw a return or increase in symptoms you have your answer no matter what the results of the test were.
  22. I have to add that if a little bit of gluten brings back the blisters you really do have a diagnosis even if the doctors won't give you one 'officially'. Hopefully the in vitro method or the method where they use a gluten swab or rectal suppository and then biopsy 3 hours later will come into use here soon. But I wouldn't hold my breath. There is a lot of...
  23. You have had the blood work and the biopsy there is no reason for you to continue in agony. Go ahead and start a trial of the diet, strictly. You may get a bit of relief before you even go back for the followup.
  24. Personally this is something I am not interested in. I volunteer at a place with a food bank and a thrift store. Our two major grocery stores send in day old bread for us to give out. That bread still has price tags on it. The artisan breads cost about the same as the gluten-free bread I buy, about $3.89 for Udi's. I only buy one loaf a week and just a...
