  1. We just got the 'scare' . . . the poor souls in Southern Indiana got the real thing. It will be where you've already looked a couple of times . . . the fourth or fifth time you look, there it will be and you'll say to yourself "Damn, I checked in the linen closet several times already!!! Why didn't I see it?" Also, check the freezer...
  2. The nutritionist that we saw (recommended by the ped GI) was well-informed. However, it took three weeks before we could get in to see her. By that time, I already knew most of what she had to share because of my online research. She did tell me (in answer to my question) . . . Yes, you DO have to have a separate toaster and a new cutting board.
  3. Weather got pretty intense here. Funnel clouds spotted. Of course the timing was perfect . . . tornado sirens went off about 10 minutes before the elementary school was suppose to get out. (Better than 5 minutes after when the kids would have already been on the buses.) They held all the kids until the all-clear was given. Skeeter was about 50 minutes...
  4. You're allowed to mention them, you just can't link to them . . . I order from Amazon as well. I use their subscribe and save program which always provides free shipping no matter what your order price is. It involves setting up a standing order so that it will ship to you every month or every other month or every third or every 6th. You select...
  5. It was easy. My daughter was 6. She was nervous but the staff was excellent at putting her at ease. They let us go back to the procedure room so we were there until she went to sleep (via gas). That was standard procedure with this (pediatric) GI but I don't think that's too common . . . you can always ask. We were warned by the nurse not to wake...
  6. Well, that's pretty remarkable, really, that you are just now getting around to producing a gluten-free flop. That's a pretty good run.
  7. Hi Kruch. I will say this . . . it is always easier for me to resist the FIRST sugary item than it is for me to resist any after that. Sugar makes you crave more sugar. What helps me to stop a sugar splurge is to eat real food. Let me put it this way . . . I do better if I eat my desert/candy/treat first and then my meal. The meal keeps my blood...
  8. Just wanted to add that I have done a gluten free trial diet. I have had joint issues. My daughter was diagnosed about 5 years ago. I was screened way back then but my tests came back negative. I know some people have false negatives. I know some people are gluten intolerant so will always(unless they come up with some other test) come back negative...
  9. Some doctors want to do gene testing some don't. I'm not sure why my son's doc wanted the gene info. I think just to see if it was something we needed to keep an eye on down the road. However, even if I didn't know he had a Celiac gene, if my son were to developed any kind of symptom that I now associate with Celiac, then I would have him retested just...
  10. Simona, I just want to tell you what a great job you do when you post and illustrate your recipes. <hands.clapping.emoticon.inserted.here>
  11. When my daughter was diagnosed, all of us in the immediate family were screened. My son is on the small side and my daughter's pedGI was particularly concerned about him. Part of his testing included the gene testing. There are two common genes for Celiac, DQ2 and DQ8. The majority (but not all) of those people who are diagnosed carry one of those genes...
  12. Eggsactly!!! It sounded sooooo bad that I had to click on it! Those look kind of fun . . . I'm going to pass that on to my MIL as she puts out a great breakfast buffet.
  13. My daughter has not had an issue with movie theater popcorn . . . but she is not overly sensitive. However, if money is tight you may want to skip the theater popcorn. It is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I took my daughter and her friend to the movies two weeks ago and the popcorn and soda were more expesive than the matinee priced movie tickets. When we...
  14. If you don't want to do online . . . which sounds amazingly cheap, btw . . . I've had good luck at Costco. I don't know how different adult pricing would be, but my daughter picked out $49 frames (there were some higher) and her very straight forward lenses were also $49. If we had gotten an exact duplicate second pair, they would have taken $25 off of...
  15. Also, I just have to ask . . . You said "every weekend" . . . Is he a lot more physically active on the weekend? I just wanted to tell you that when my daughter was "reacting" after she had gone gluten free, it was almost always after(although not limited to) being physically active. Soccer season was a nightmare. Her GI said that it was not uncommon...
  16. I'm sorry to tell you this but he needs to be ON gluten in order for any of the Celiac testing to be conclusive. From what I can tell, he's been gluten free at least a few weeks and possibly since around Christmas time. Testing for vitamin deficiencies would not be affected. I know that I depend on the internet for product information but take a look...
  17. Hi Alissa, Welcome to the board. It's a great resource and there are a lot of friendly helpful people here. You'll be surprised at how quickly you'll be helping the newbies!!
  18. Yeah, she's totally lame and anitsocial
  19. If the cookies are spreading too much, then you can do any of the following: Refrigerate the dough (like previously mentioned) Add a bit more flour Reduce the amount of butter/oil Refrigerating the dough works great for me . . . you just have to plan for that extra time. Sometimes it works to your advantage to make the dough one day and then the...
  20. Butterfly net? Little parachutes for your toast? It IS an amusing image that you've conjured up . . . hide-n-seek with the morning toast. Sounds like your toaster has a good spring in it.
  21. True that . . . however, their FAQ does have the info that the OP included: From: Open Original Shared Link Q: I am allergic to gluten. Is it all right for me to take this product? A: Advil
  22. Also, this is my baseline muffin recipe. If I make banana, I take out the blueberries and use 1 to 2 mashed ripe bananas (no crumb topping but sometimes some chopped pecans or walnuts mixed in or on top). Will also mix in chocolate chips with these. I will take some cinnamon and sugar and fold that into the batter so that it's kinda swirly for Cinnamon...
  23. Blueberry Muffins 1 1/2 cups gluten free flour blend (I actually use 1 cup plus 1/2 cup Pamela's baking mix) 3/4 cup white sugar 1/2 teas salt 1 teas baking powder 1 teas baking soda 1/2 teas xanthan gum (If not using Pamela's above then up quantity to 3/4 teas) 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1 egg (lightly beaten) 1/2 cup milk 1 cup blueberries (I use...
  24. which leads to this somewhat less frequently used acronym: IANALIANCMTALNHIEBBMTAL - I am not a lawer, I am not currently married to a lawyer, nor have I ever been married to a lawyer.
