ARCHIVED Need To Lose A Lot Of Weight
celiac-mommy replied to Twisha's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There really wasn't much of an option for him. I do all the grocery shopping and all of the cooking. I do ask for input when planning the menu so I know what to buy and modifications needed to make it gluten-free and healthy. Then I get input after the meal regarding changes to make, never make again, make tomorrow, etc... As far as getting the... -
ARCHIVED Need To Lose A Lot Of Weight
celiac-mommy replied to Twisha's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was in your situation 7 years ago. I was 100# overweight after the birth of my dd. I changed everything about the way my family ate from then on. I can't control what my dh eats outside of the house (he's currently ~60# overweight, on BP meds, and has no desire to do anything about it) BUT I can control what he/they eat in my house. Very little junk... -

celiac-mommy replied to mimommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's not the gummy kind-but my kids needed extra iron, and the gummy-vites didn't have what we needed. Anyway, they fight over the Schiff chewables, they LOVE them... -
ARCHIVED Getting Frustrated With Daughter!
celiac-mommy replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with a lot of what has been said (from the "what it's worth department" ) My dh wants the junk food in the house, I don't-when he b%$@#es about it, I remind him who does ALL the grocery shopping, and if he'd like the junk, he can go to the store and get it himself-98% of the time, he won't go I, also, am not a short order cook. I refuse to... -

celiac-mommy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My kids always get the real stuff, but I occasionally use the sugar free stuff, so I inquired: February 3, 2009 Dear Rachelle: Thank you for taking the time to inquire about Pinnacle Foods Group, LLC and the products we produce which may be gluten-free. We appreciate your interest in our company and our products. There is no gluten... -
ARCHIVED Does Celiacs Make Kids Grumpy?
celiac-mommy replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If glutened, my ds is very whiney and clingy, otherwise, if he's healthy, he's happy! If it get's out of control, I gently say, "I'm sorry, but you're hurting mommy's ears, I'm going to go in the other room (or put him in his bedroom) until you're ready to act like a big boy" When he sees that I'm not giving in to his demands and since he wants to be in... -

ARCHIVED Serious Anxiety....which Seems To Affect Everything!
celiac-mommy replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have anxiety disorder and was taking meds for many years. I went off of them when I got pregnant with my son and didn't want to go back. I talked to my dr about it and she has me taking 2000u of vitD, 500mg magnesium and 1000mg calcium per day. It has made a world of difference and I don't have the "unwanted" side effects of the Paxil.... -

ARCHIVED Movie Theatre Food? Popcorn? Safe?
celiac-mommy replied to disneymom62's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I never go for the popcorn because I don't know what's in their flavors they add to it. Occasionally I will let the kids get M&M's or Kissables, but usually I sneak (Yeah, I'm horrible ) a snack bag in for each kid and justify it by buying them a drink. -

ARCHIVED Having A Dinner Party
celiac-mommy replied to MollyBeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made this and brought it to work, it disappeared instantly!! I love cheesecake and this is by far my favorite I've ever made! Open Original Shared Link I made gluten-free vanilla wafers ahead of time--in place of the flours listed, I just used a blend I had at home, you can use whatever you have (I don't like the taste of soy flour)... Open Original... -
I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out the total difference between casein vs lactose vs dairy free. I'm thinking she should be all milk-product free for those 3 weeks, whether it's cow/goat/sheep~we eat a lot of specialty cheeses that are goat and sheep. I'm finding it really hard because like taweavmo3 said, my kids also eat quite a bit of dairy...

I called to make an appt for the kids' yearly checkup with the gastroenterologist. He called me back to see how things were going and I mentioned that our dd has been complaining of random stomachaches. They aren't consistant and I know she uses them to get out of things sometimes (like chores and bedtime), but I would feel horrible to ignore them and have...

ARCHIVED Height Spurt W/in 6 Months?
celiac-mommy replied to mardigan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our dd, we saw no real change in height/weight, but she was already in the 95th percentile for both-she was 4 a the time of diagnosis. She is now 7 and the height of a 10 year old. Our son, however, was 2.5 when he was diagnosed. He was below the 10th % for height and weight. He was wearing 18mo clothing and a size 5 shoe (9-12mo size). Within 3 months... -
ARCHIVED Manufacturer's Statements ***
celiac-mommy replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the great info! My question is regarding ConAgra: " Some fermented or distilled products, such as vinegar, may be drived from wheat. We suggest that you speak to your physician to determine if you need to avoid distilled products derived from wheat, rye, barley, or oats. If Natural Flavors, Artificial Flavors, or Spices listed in the... -
We usually do an omlette for breakfasts, she prefers fruit over the hashbrowns, so I've never asked about them. There's one breakfast that is a veggie omlette, fruit and a bran muffin, then I order a bowl of fruit and eat her muffin (and whatever eggs she doesn't eat). Dinner is a burger patty or chicken breast, with fruit-they have a shared frier.

We go there a few times a year, and the only place we usually eat is Pig n Pancake (but we never go during peak meal times). Madeleine has never gotten sick there. We did eat at Doogers-I think that's in Cannon Beach, but all she could really have was poached fish and a baked potato. I know she's perfectly happy eating there, but Max would rather starve...

We don't like it. It's just OK for french toast, but otherwise, not great.
