ARCHIVED Celiac Belly Part 2: What Kind Of Jeans Do You Wear?
celiac-mommy replied to munchkinette's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Citizens Of Humanity Jeans too. I found a miracle pair--dark wash, super long, perfect fit--at the Nordstrom 1/2 yearly sale for 50% off. They have just enough give, don't stretch thru the day, no muffin top and they're sooo soft! -

ARCHIVED Options For Lazy Cooks
celiac-mommy replied to Tim-n-VA's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What do you want to use it for? There's a recipe on the website for a yeastless bread that's supposed to be pretty quick, I was going to try it tonight and see how it turns out. What kinds of recips are you looking for? I use it for EVERYTHING (except yeast breads). All my muffins, quick breads, cakes, cookies, pie crust....... I haven't tried the bisquick... -
ARCHIVED Stacked Crock Pot Enchiladas
celiac-mommy replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Do you fry them to prevent them from splitting? I always warm mine in the microwave between 2 damp paper towels. That way you can do a bunch at a time. This also works really well with the Enjoy Life brown rice tortillas since I find them to be fairly brittle. -
ARCHIVED Dumb Questions!
celiac-mommy replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree, call ahead. In my area, and in my experience, it's been almost all wheat. Make sure if they tell you "it's just straw" you ask "what kind of straw" The last guy I talked to took a bit to get him to understand the correlation. -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Zucchini Cake With Agave Nectar
celiac-mommy replied to elevenkids2many's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I interchange my banana bread recipe with zucchini all the time. Sub the banana straight across for zucchini. My recipe wouldn't meet your dietary restrictions, but I would try your recipe with the zucchini instead. I would shred the zucchini, place in tea towel and try to squeeze a bunch of the moisture out before adding to the batter though. -
ARCHIVED Dumb Questions!
celiac-mommy replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Pringles can--if I had personally scrubbed it out with soap and water a few times, then I'd be OK with it, what about a Lays Stax can? Hay rides--my dd was one of those who got very sick from a hay ride. I always ask the farms before hand now so I can prep the kids if need be before we get there-less disappointment and fits later. -
ARCHIVED Kyllo's In Lincoln City Or
celiac-mommy replied to mindwiped's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We've eaten there a few times. The food is good, just a little spendy. They have an amazing blackened salmon salad, but not sure about it being gluten-free. If you like salmon, you should ask about it, YUMM-O!! -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Icing
celiac-mommy replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use their gel colors regularly. I've also called the company MANY times inquiring about gluten and they've always been nothing but super sweet and super helpful. If you're unsure, I'd give them a call. Just make sure to have the package handy because they will ask you for info from it to be sure you're talking about the same thing. -
ARCHIVED Belly Butto Issues
celiac-mommy replied to Sesheta's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, Dr, ASAP. Can't get into your dr, go to urgent care. It is also possible to have communication between your belly button and your intestines. -
I've used Windsor pilates for 5 years, it's worked really well for me.

ARCHIVED gluten-free And Nitrate Free Bacon?

The Hormel natural line bacon is nitrate/nitrite free too. It's pretty good, and a little cheaper. Mmmmmm, bacon! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Portland, Oregon
celiac-mommy replied to GF avenger's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
They are heavy on the bean four though, if you don't mind the taste...I'm not a fan. Tacoma is a street in/near Sellwood, OR (basically Portland) -
ARCHIVED Lost Zuchini Bread Recipe
celiac-mommy replied to IMWalt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make mine into muffins, but you could do bread, just cook longer: They are so moist and you'd never know there's only 1/4c sugar. 3/4c egg whites or 4 whole eggs 2c finely shredded zuchini 1/4c sugar 1 tsp cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice 1 tsp vanilla (NO OIL) mix those well add 2c Pamela's baking mix** mini chocolate chips if... -
ARCHIVED What Do They Take For Lunch Now?
celiac-mommy replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I pack lunches every day for both my kids. Our lunches always contain a main dish, fruit, veggie, and little "treat" if the other stuff is finished. Main dishes could be leftovers heated up and put in a thermos, sandwiches, "super" quesadillas (cheese, black beans, chicken, chopped spinach), homemade "lunchable" lunchmeat, crackers and cheese. I usually... -
ARCHIVED Bellagio's Pizza Has gluten-free Pizza
celiac-mommy replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If you are on I-5 before turning off to Mt. St Helens, you are about an hour from Juliano's in Vancouver, a little longer from the places in Portland. I'm not sure about the Olympia area, but I know there are a lot of mainstream chain restaurants there. You should come to Portland-it's MUCH better than Olympia You could go to Mt. Hood instead! -
ARCHIVED Bellagio's Pizza Has gluten-free Pizza
celiac-mommy replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Although spendy, we also tried Juliano's pizza in Vancouver WA and I was really impressed with the pizza, it was better than Garlic Jims crust. I also got an email about Flying Pie in Portland. We might stop at Bellagio's on Friday, I'm excited! -
ARCHIVED School Problems
celiac-mommy replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know this probably sounds horrible, but after my son's diagnosis and the teachers just didn't seem to completely get it and were being risky in the classroom, they would call me to come get him when he had 'd' I told them no, I said if they were being careless and were causing him to have uncontrollable d and some behavioral problems, then they could be... -
ARCHIVED In Need Of A Pie Crust Recipe
celiac-mommy replied to WardGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is my no-fail, super easy (no roll!!!) crust: 1/2 stick butter 1c Pamela's pancake/baking mix** 2-4 tbs sugar (I like brown) Melt butter in pie plate in microwave Mix in with a fork the baking mix and sugar Press into pie plate Refrigerate for about 20-30 min (while you prep your filling works well) Fill and bake as usual ... -
ARCHIVED Short Of Breath Weird Pain In Back?
celiac-mommy replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are very benign reasons this can happen, but there can also be some worrisome reasons. If/when it happens again, if you can, you might want to call your Dr and get checked out-chest xray etc... I suppose if your body has a reaction to gluten by inflamming, one idea that comes to mind is that your pericardium can become inflamed too causing pericarditis... -
ARCHIVED How Are You Preparing For The Economic Collapse?
celiac-mommy replied to GregC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just bought some non-perishables that we would normally eat, and pardon my ignorance, but why would this 'economic crisis' cause the power to be out? I thought it was more of a stockpile issue and the fact that truckers probably won't be making deliveries to grocery stores due to high costs, etc.... -
ARCHIVED How Are You Preparing For The Economic Collapse?
celiac-mommy replied to GregC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My dh is in finance, and I've never in the last 12 years, seen him as freaked out as he is right now. We've never bought into all the "crisis" of the past, like Y2K, but based on the way he's been in the last week, I stocked up my freezer last weekend: chicken, hamburger, steak, turkey, Amy's gluten-free meals were 40% off at Fred Meyer. Then I went to... -
ARCHIVED Bike 11 Miles A Day And Still A Gut
celiac-mommy replied to Tykes's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What's your height and weight? That can help me give you an approximate #. I'm 5'11 and I work out about 6 days a week. If I'm trying to lose, then I'll keep it around 1600 calories. If i'm trying to maintain, then closer to 2000. My martial art classes burn around 800 calories per hour (2-3x week) strength train 2-3x week, pilates/yoga 2x week, and...
