ARCHIVED Vans Wheat Free/gluten Free Gourmet Waffles
burdee replied to trents's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband LOVES the gluten free varieties of Van's Waffles (not ALL their varieties are gluten-free), because they're reasonable priced, gluten-free and tasty. I can't eat any of those because I have a diagnosed soy allergy and know I will react painfully to even one bite. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Seattle?
burdee replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks, Jaimi. I believe my SIL knows about the coop in Ashland and Fred Meyer in Medford, but I'm not sure if she knows about Food 4 Less. Also I don't know whether they live near a golf course, but they live on Heather Way. My SIL has gluten intolerance and other allergies as well as Candida problems. She will finish a course of Nyastin soon. Her blood... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Seattle?
burdee replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi Jaimi: You're welcome! I just noticed you're in Medford, OR. My brother and SIL live in Eagle Point near Medford. She just recently saw my celiac naturopathic doc in Seattle. Her test results indicated she has dairy, egg and cane sugar allergies as well as gluten intolerance. She says shopping for gluten free, allergy free foods in the Medford area... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free In Seattle?
burdee replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Outback makes a better marguarita than most Mexican restaurants in the Seattle area. You can get those with your dinner while you're sitting a booth with your kids. Other posters already gave you some good Seattle area restaurants. I would only add Canyons in Bothell, Mountlake Terrace and Redmond. They have a gluten/casein free menu and are great for... -
Kristi: I'm sorry you had such a frustrating experience with Seattle area docs. I was misdiagnosed for over 10 years by Group Health docs in the Seattle area. However I FINALLY found a fantastic celiac naturopath who founded the Seattle IBS Treatment Center. He doesn't just give that IBS diagnosis and say 'good luck', like most docs. He believes IBS is...

I agree with using the ELISA blood test. We don't put food under our skin, so skin prick tests don't show how we react to foods we eat. A blood test can be more reliable. HOWEVER, if the lab results indicate more than a few food allergies, you might consider whether that lab uses good quality control standards. If the indicated allergies are in the same...

ARCHIVED What To Do About Other Allergies
burdee replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Steph: After I continued to have symptoms (cramping intestinal pains, bloating, gas and constipation) DESPITE abstaining from gluten, dairy and soy, I went to a local celiac naturopath who founded the Seattle IBS Treatment Center. He says those IBS symptoms are caused by celiac disease, food allergies, bad bacteria or lack of good bacteria, yeast and... -
ARCHIVED Question About Alcohol
burdee replied to Clark Bent as Stupor-Man's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have casein and egg sensitivities, definitely avoid wines and even nonalcoholic wines. Manufacturers of red wines use egg whites to 'clear' or 'fine' the wines. White wine manufacturers may use skim milk or casein proteins to fine their wines. Even nonalcoholic winemakers like Ariel report that they use egg whites as 'an industry standard'. A few... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Resist The Temptation?
burdee replied to jamrock's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Like others who posted here, I react painfully (gas, bloating, cramps and constipation) to gluten for 10-14 days. After one gluten exposure, everytime food passes over the damaged part of my intestine I reexperience pain in that area for about 2 weeks or so. I have no problem resisting gluten, because I remember the pain I experienced both before diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED The Best Gluten-free/dairy-free/soy-free Ice Cream
burdee replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have diagnosed intolerances/allergies to gluten, dairy, soy, eggs and cane sugar. So I went without ice cream for over 2 years until a friend sent me a recipe book entitled "Vice Cream". From that book I've made pumpkin, raspberry and banana vice creams from raw cashews, fruit, spices and agave or maple syrup. There are many recipes with the cashew base... -
ARCHIVED Need To Gain Weight-maybe It Will Help Me Feel Better?
burdee replied to tbs19's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I disagree. Gaining weight per se will NOT help you feel better. In fact you may NOT be able to gain weight until you get all the gluten out of your system. I weigh 105# at 5'4", but feel much better after I learned what was causing my ongoing symptoms. At first I was taking probiotics which contained GLUTEN (malt diastase or barley gluten). Then I learned... -
ARCHIVED Help-multiple Allergies Need Recipes
burdee replied to daisey's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Daisey: Besides gluten I have diagnosed allergies to dairy (casein), eggs, soy and cane sugar. For my celiac support group's holiday cooky exchange I made Christmas cookies from my 'adapted' recipe: FRUIT AND NUT SLICE AND BAKE COOKIES (Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Egg and Cane Sugar Free) Stir 1-1/2 Tablespoon Flax meal into 1/3 cup very hot water. Leave... -
I don't think pumpkin would work, because it doesn't have the fat and protein that nut butters have, but maybe a different kind of nut butter would work ... But maybe you could just try it and consider any 'flops' an experiment. BURDEE

ARCHIVED Gluten & Egg Free Meatloaf
burdee replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Did you dissolve the flaxmeal in boiling water and let stand for 10 minutes before adding to the meatloaf? I used that mixture in pancakes which turned out fantastic! I'm surprised that didn't work in meat loaf ... unless you just threw in the dry flaxmeal. I did that once with equally disastrous results. LOL BURDEE -
ARCHIVED Gluten & Egg Free Meatloaf

WOW! That was fast! You already tried it? BURDEE -
ARCHIVED Gluten & Egg Free Meatloaf
burdee replied to AmyTopolski's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was diagnosed with egg allergy (ELISA IgG antibodies) in August. Since then I have learned many egg substitutes, including Ener-G Food's Egg Replacement. However my FAVORITE egg replacement (for one egg) is: Combine 1 tablespoon of flax meal (or ground flax seeds) in 1/4 cup very hot water. Let stand for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. I used that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Soy Too!
burdee replied to Curious and Determined's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you also have problems with dairy? If not, you won't need to use any soy based milks or other dairy substitutes. You can't have any gluten free SOY sauces or Tamari or Shoyu (all forms of soy sauce). or anything with edamame or miso. If you are also dairy sensitive, try the nut based (almond or hazelnut milks). However you will not tolerate soy lecithin... -
I've read on candida boards that the discomfort people experience after taking herbal supplements (like caprylic acid) or meds (like Nyastatin) are due to candida 'die off'. However I took caprylic acid for Klebsiella bacteria. The symptoms I experienced were due to the antibacterial/antifungal supplement (CA) killing off all my GOOD bacteria, as well as...

ARCHIVED How Long Do I Do A Trail Run Of Gluten-free Diet?
burdee replied to DaCat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I SECOND cutting out dairy. Before I abstained from dairy, I had chronic sinus problems (infections, post nasal drip, congestion, many colds, etc) as well as constipation. After Enterolab tests determined that I had CASEIN (milk protein) allergy, rather than lactose (milk sugar) intolerance, I completely cut out all sources of dairy. Since then I have... -
ARCHIVED Whic Area To Post In?
burdee replied to jannyj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Manna Mills also carries GIG certified GLUTEN FREE OATS from one of only 2 factories which make uncontaminated oats. We picked up a bag at the Gluten Free Gala (with free samples) on November 18. I believe they hold those gluten-free Gala Events 2x a year. BURDEE -
ARCHIVED If You Shouldn't Be Taking Antibiotics . . .
burdee replied to Helena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Helena: Right now I'm taking HLC High Potency (Freeze Dried) Probiotics which I get from my doc at the IBS Treatment Center in Seattle. See Open Original Shared Link However I previously took Ethical Nutrients Intestinal Care DF (Dairy Free) Probiotics which must be refrigerated. Those gave me lots of lactobacillus acidophilus, but no bifidobacteria, which...
