  1. If you really want an official doctor's diagnosis then you are pretty much stuck with doing the gluten trial for several months, maybe 3 world work. But nobody is going to give you a gold star when you get done and get your diagnosis, or don't get it. Even after 3 months there is still a chance you will get a false negative, because the testing is just...
  2. Well, forget all that unimportant stuph! Whutz the painting? Let some particulars already. A grand landscape of the deck and yard? A dashing portrait of the thespian in costume? Maybe of portrait of the prime minister or the Qween?
  3. It is not unusual for people who aren't gluten-free or celiac to not understand the problems it cause us. Heck, many people don't even know what gluten is, as related to celiac disease. Even many doctors seem clueless about it. How many of your friends know what an autoimmune disease is? Probably not many. I think you have the right idea about your...
  4. Thanks for the warning Karen! I have looked at these products before and even ate them a few times before going gluten-free. It seems like the kind of food that would be ok for celiacs and conventent and so forth. But maybe not so much...
  5. I have a problem sometimes where food seems to get stuck going down, right above 6he stomach. I suppose that could be the sphincter muscle. or weakness in the muscles of the esophagus. It used to happen more often for me, but is fairly rare now. It was always worse when I was gassed up in the stomach. I don't know if it is caused by nerve damage from malabsorption...
  6. Hmmm, sleeping on the floor sounds comfy, but can you get some extra pillows and prop your head and upper body up at night? I do that sometimes if I am gassy so it is easier for the gas to get out. I do that in a bed with a mattress though... Otherwise, avoiding things that make you gassy might help. I don't know off hand what things might make...
  7. Open Original Shared Link Yep Shroomie gots it right, casein protein may not be a problem for you, so cheese may be fine. Most of the lactose sugar in hard cheese is digested/eaten up by the bacteria that make it cheese. Softer cheeses can have lactose in them and sometimes they add lactose to help soften them more, so cheese like food products i.e...
  8. Well, I looked up ALA on the UMD site. They say a lot of good things about ALA. Sounds like a good thing to me! I may suggest it to my brother. He just started a diabetic diet. Open Original Shared Link This is just small portion of the web page info: .... Diabetes Alpha-lipoic acid can lower blood sugar levels, and its ability to kill...
  9. Hi Ken, Seems like a read a post on here a long time ago about ALA possibly raising blood sugar levels. I don;t know if that is true or a problem or not, just something once read.
  10. Yeah, your doc screwed up. One week is too short a time for the antibodies to build-up and damage your gut enough to be detected. The antibodies are mostly inside your gut, not running around randomly in your blood. The blood tests for celiac are not 100% bullet-proof accurate to begin with, they have a certain percentage of false negatives. You can...
  11. Thanks for joining up and letting us know the real story Beau Jo's. It is great to hear that restaraunts like yours are making a real effort to serve gluten-free people safely. If I lived in CO. I would be sure to stop in and eat there, if it was still open that is. Seems to me your establishment got a raw deal from this incident and it was nothing to...
  12. Just so you know, some people have a "gluten withdrawal" period after they stop gluten. They crave gluten foods during that time or have other symptoms of withdrawal. That doesn't happen to everyone though. I just don't want you to be surprised if you happen to be one of those people affected. One of the issues celiac disease causes mal-absorption of...
  13. Well, I sure ain't an expert on gallbladder issues. I have read threads where people talked about after effects of removal. Some of them said they had quite a long period of time to adjust to not having a gall bladder, with symptoms like the big D for months. So it's not a get it out and everything is fine kind of deal. But if it hurts that is sure not...
  14. There is a thing called casein sensitive enteropathy that can cause villi damage. Also parasites can cause it from what I read. I think both of those are even rarer than celiac in the USA at least. If he reacts well to not eating gluten though that is a pretty darn good indicator that gluten is a problem. Unfortunately many celiacs have a problem with...
  15. I suggest you look for a digestive enzyme and a pro-biotic to take. Make sure they are gluten free, casein free and especially soy free GFCFSF). Stay away from dairy, all soy, and nightshades also. Nightshades that typically can cause reactions are white potatoes (sweet potatoes or yams are ok), tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Also avoid any sugar....
  16. I agree, there are lots of threads on here about gall bladder issues. I'd try the gluten-free diet first if it was me. I think I've also read somewhere about possibly using ultrasound or some medicines to break up gall stones. I don't think surgery to remove the gall bladder is the only option.
  17. Do a search on "celiac related condition" or celiac associated condition" and you will find lists of disease that celiacs are more likely to get than other people. They say if you follow the gluten-free diet your chances of developing cancer are lowered after a few years. Hopefully the chances of developing these other conditions is lowered also... I believe...
  18. Soy suks. No doubt about it. Searchy on "soy rat intestine", "soy infant thyroid", "soy hormone imbalance", "soy end of the world" etc and you'll see. Ok, I made that last one up, don't search on that! Also don't search on "soy for a wonderful world of light and hope", or "soy for all the girls in string bikinis you want", just depressing stuff.....
  19. Ahh, finally some poetry about celiac! Love it, thanks for sharing. It's gud to get that stuff outta yur gutz once in a while... Hmm, what we need is a play about celiac disease though, along the Shakespearean lines of tragedy and romance. Poetry is definitely a step in the right direction. Congratz on the poems getting out and about!
  20. Meat brown rice wraps Daiya shredded cheese Hellman's canola oil cholesterol free mayo lettuce, parsley or other greens mushrooms oranges bananas Food For Life Chips, some are GFCFSF, but not all. Nuts, except walnuts. Peanut Butter, only natural or organic kinds with no soy. Wine Pamelas gluten-free cookies, sometimes as a treat. Some of them...
  21. Whole Foods has brown rice tortillas from Food for Life. Trader Joe's has their own brand of brown rice tortillas. They work best if you rinse them with water first and then microwave for 15 seconds or so to soften them. Otherwise they tend to crack when folded.
  22. So, what are you eating? Lots of processed gluten free foods? If you are it might be an intolerance to one of the common ingredients in them, like soy, dairy, xanthan gum, corn, eggs, etc. Also gluten free foods can have a small amount of gluten in them so if you eat a lot of them you can have a cumulative affect. Sounds like a diet change may be...
  23. Milk of magnesia to get it out faster, and Pepto Bismol to reduce the irritation. And lots of water.

  25. I don't know about neuropathy, but I had some issues with my feet. Before I went gluten free my feet and ankles were always swollen and odd looking. Kind of blue and white in patches. They were also cold. I didn't actually realize they were cold until after I had been gluten-free a while and they started warming up. Now after 3 years gluten-free they...
