  1. I'm pretty sure they are, Jason. Have had no trouble there. I asked our store why they didn't have a gluten free bakery as some of their other stores do, and she said "because of the risk of cross-contamination". So I would say they are aware.
  2. That is a great answer to the question. Most interviewees don't know the answer to the question of what interviewers are allowed to ask, so they volunteer too much information because the interviewer will always push the boundaries. Find our your rights first and develop answers to questions that might be problematic. You are within your rights to decline...
  3. Haha! you are at least as bad as me, probably worse I look at those people and start to shiver....shorts, tees, flipflops brrr! Don't ev en have them in my wardrobe
  4. This was my second visit to this doc and I do like him; I last saw him about a year ago. So we caught up with my treatment in NZ the last year, current problems, labs, meds, etc. I then couldn't resist bringing up the subject of other autoimmune diseases and my celiac disease and how I thought my psoriatic arthritis was as a direct result of the celiac...
  5. If there's one thing I have learned over the years, it is to always follow up on labs and get copies of all the reports and keep them in a file. It gets a bit fat after a while, but is an invaluable resource. I also include copies of all reports generated by specialist referrals, all x-rays, every test of any kind. Doctors love it when you can go in and...
  6. Thanks Ted. Interesting links. My D had dropped right back down to 32 and I could tell the difference in the way I felt. Sunbeds are not an option for me with northern skin type and various skin cancers including melanoma. This is a problem for me as it makes me avoid the sun Living at a low (southern hemisphere latitude) with a hole in the ozone layer...
  7. Good on ya, mate! I am glad you are giving it a try. I hope the results are what we all expect for you. While the diet may at first seem restrictive, it becomes easier as you are able to add back in more and more foods until you get the oopsie, the other food(s) that bother you. I am soy intolerant and this seems pretty permanent (even soy lecithin)....
  8. It's a hard question to answer. Most of us would not expect much healing to have taken place in two weeks. But it is surprising how quickly the body can stop making antibodies (what the blood test measures) if the gluten is no longer present. What a bummer for you that they did not do the tests when you thought, leaving you with a dilemma. For people...
  9. Count me in as another too cold, too hot person. My comfortable temperature bands are very limited. I have a sweatshirt on in mid-summer evening while talking to you, my standard evening garb. Sometimes I get to wear something short-sleeved during the day, though not often. Sweat up the bed at night after shivering when I get in I don't get it
  10. Wow that does make a lot of sense to me, Ted. I didn't know about the three-week half life. I had been taking the monthly dose (cholecalciferol) but was told to take it weekly for a while "to fill up the tank". Then they said it was too high and not to take it for a couple of months and I dropped way back down to borderline. I also have osteoporosis and...
  11. I quit exactly four decades ago, almost to the day; a carton of cigarettes (never bought a pack!) cost about $3.00 But when I think of the bucks (and breath) saved over the years... darn it, no-one can afford to smoke, whatever it costs because the monetary cost is only the beginning. Okay, okay, I'll stop preaching to the choir
  12. Most of the things I'm intolerant to make me itch, sometimes with rash, sometimes without. Of course, with psoriasis I've been scratching for five years now ; itching seems like a normal state
  13. Oh yeah! You scare the bejeezus out of yerselph, but that's why you do it, becuz you luvs it
  14. Yeah, what a joy to be pain-free after eating. Sure keeps the motivation going. Good luck!
  15. Tooommm, I think I may have done that to myself; too much citric acid--have avoided it in all its forms for the past three weeks and that terrible itching is phinally going away. Sure hope this intolerance is not permanent, just an overload, and that sometime in the phuture I'll be able to have it again. That is, if it isn't a reaction to the Humira instead...
  16. Well, I never refer to it as a disease; I just say I am a celiac (don't know that for sure, but prove I'me not!!!haha) and that's that. If someone questions, it is gluten intolerance that makes me sick.
  17. Hi Psills. My verbosity has retreated into its cell. I have retreated into this little curled up space (the fetal position?) where there is not much room for anything. No, don't get alarmed, I do this sometimes when me body lets me down again. I did another stupid stumbling into something ( the towel rail) when I awoke this morn, skin avulsion again without...
  18. Thanks for your comments Toni. It is something totally new to me. The insert with my prescription said that it could help increase bone density. I didn't even know I had degenerated to osteoporosis until I had a spinal compression fracture. The results of the scan will be interesting.
  19. I have just been prescribed this medication because of a spinal compression fracture(have been taking it for four days), and have been for another DEXA scan today. From what I've read this is a comparatively new medication for treating osteoporosis and is delivered by nasal spray. Does anyone else take this or have any knowledge about it?
  20. I have seen grown men cry with the pain from osteoarthritis--and I have seen myself cry with the pain of rheumatoid. I had a knee which was damaged by an imbalance in my sacroiliac so I put undue wear on the inside of my knee, went for years with bone-on-bone with two arthroscopic surgeries before I found this fantabulous ortho suregeon who gave me a partial...
  21. Oh, that's so much bettah than what I imagined I thought it might be something like my mother used to make (which she called "mayonnaise" but which akshually turned out to be sweetened condensed milk and vinegar (malt); the heynossity of it all. Once when I was home for Christmas I decided to go to the store and buy some real mayonnaise, and guess what...
  22. I don't think you are hearing us David. Any lab tests now would probably be negative--blood for antibodies or endoscopy for intestinal damage. You have been off gluten too long. What do you want this doctor to do for you?? Cost you a lot of money to tell you you are not a celiac?? I am very confused here as to what you hope to achieve. Yes, it is...
  23. Ye Gods, I missed the crowning of GOOD QUEEN BESS JYESS or Amanda !! Congratulations, your Majesty, from your loyal servant SHROOMIE (Amanita Muscaria ) Watch out for the enemy within And Em and Peter can sit in de garden and sip (beverage of choice, according to respective allergies) until the employees decide whether to ratify or reject....
  24. I would second Pele. The chances of a positive biopsy (50/50 at best in normal situations) are drestically reduced if you have not been eating gluten for 7 months. You normally need at least two months of continuous gluten consumption to get a true response. And the only treatment for gluten intolerance, which it seems you have, is gluten elimination....
