ARCHIVED Just Lucky Or Are The Doctors Coming Around?
mushroom replied to OptimisticMom42's topic in Doctors
There is a distinct subset of doctors (mostly male) who believe that 99% of the problems which bring a woman to a doctor's office are in her head. I even had a female physician who belonged to this group. You can't do anything with them, just avoid them. -
ARCHIVED Nightshade Vegetables And Artificial Sweetners
mushroom replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Vicky: I am another RA sufferer, although strictly speaking mine is psoriatic arthritis because I also have psoriasis. I used to be told I had fibromyalgia too! I have been avoiding the nightshade family too, and have now discovered (well, it makes sense when you think about it) that I cannot do any of the flour blends that have potato starch in them... -
And don't forget ED (explosive diarrhea, not the other meaning ) BIL and SIL and MIL --brother, sister and mother-in-law And then there's the really medical ones -- SLE (lupus); EE (eosinophilic esophagitis), etc. You are probably going to just have to google these ones like a lot of us do

ARCHIVED Does The Insomnia Get Better?
mushroom replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Can't offer much help with the sleep problem, I'm afraid. My sleeplessnes was mostly caused by the gas and bloating; but I still get it and still consume a lot of Gas-Ex and take a 5 mg Valium for sleep. Sleeping better, but it's a rare night when I sleep through. I sometimes use Formula 303 which I got from my chiropractor, to calm down that feeling that... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Doctors! Need Diagnosis
mushroom replied to Kimberly1966's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I still have itchy skin. For me it is a sign of a food intolerance. It is getting better since I no longer eat anything with potato flour in it (just giving up potatoes wasn't enough). I do think you should take that as a sign that you are intolerant to something else besides gluten. Once we give up gluten, we often start eating more of something... -
New Zealand is pretty good with its "clean, green" image, but it takes eternal vigilance not to smudge that up with GMO. It's hard to get people involved in the issue and the Green political party is pretty much regarded as a bunch of kooks, but so far we have managed to contain the experimental trials to just that, and not let loose all this GE stuff into...

mushroom replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance And Psoriasis
mushroom replied to karangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It took several months for the Humira to have an effect on my psoriasis. My arthritis improved almost immediately, but it was three to four months before I noticed an improvement in my psoriasis. I still have some on my heels which has been there for 18 months which is just starting to go away, so you do have to be patient. Also, I have had to stop the... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Doctors! Need Diagnosis
mushroom replied to Kimberly1966's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kimberley: Yes, this diagnostic process is difficult. First of all, you need to know your blood results were correctly interpreted. There are people who post on this forum who can help you here. Get a copy of the results and post them, including the reference ranges. The fact that your doctor suggested you try gluten free would seem to indicate... -
ARCHIVED I Have Celiac- Think My Daughter Does, Too...
mushroom replied to alexisb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Toddlers are notoriously hard to accurately diagnose. It may well be with family history that she is celiac, but trying to get it proven by a doctor's diagnosis may be very difficult. If you are gluten free, why is it so hard to try her on gluten free too? I don't think there are any statistics as to the percentage of people who inherit the gene who... -

Good gawd, Soozle, did not realize you was so depriiiived!!! The only thing that has been keeping my sanity is watching the Tour de France; but Food...why, no Gluten free?? ..Had enuff of Greta Van Susteren in the OJ fiasco; Larry King never does anything controversial, although occasionally interesting... peeples addicted to surrogacy??????? Now that's... -
ARCHIVED Need To Increase My Protein
mushroom replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have seen a rice whey powder in Raleys. Know nothing about its protein content. Perhaps make smoothies with almond or hemp milk, bananas, etc. etc. -

Ah, me Psills, I is still here; have been reading along but having trouble responding. Had to have my arm in a cast for a while so I couldn't bend me elbow whilst the wound healed; then hassling with this 'puter (laptop) which probly should be on the lap and not the table because the cursor is cursed and I spend half the day cursin' it My gaawwd, the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance And Psoriasis
mushroom replied to karangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Karangel, and welcome to the forum. I do so feel for your husband, psoriasis is a miserable disease. Does he have it alone or in combination with rheumatoid arthritis? Has he seen a rheumatologist, since this is an autoimmune disease as you seem to be aware? I tried all the standard medications and nothing, including I am sorry to say a gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Does Severe Lactose Intolerance Mean Celiac?
mushroom replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I don't know. I have always assumed the gluten (unreocnigzed by me until much later) preceded the lactose, but I recognized the lactose first because I worked with someone who was lactose intolerant and realized that was a problem for me. The LI developed about three years after a major automobile accident. I... -
ARCHIVED Soy Allergy Vs. Soy Intolerance
mushroom replied to michelleL's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am intolerant to soy in all its forms. Well, to be honest I don't give the oil a fair try because as soon as I see the word "soy" now I run, but definitely cannot do soy lecithin. Soy gives me urticaria and I am so tired of itching, what with the psoriasis and all -
I had the luck last year to find a young female PCP who accepts my insurance, who is attached to a large, respected regional health center with its own hospital, etc., including its own hotel for patients who fly in for surgery (well, this is Nevada and you have to go to Reno or Vegas) l don't know how long she has been practising, but she is young enough...

ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
mushroom replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You really shouldn't be so surprised; the estimate is that for every one celiac diagnosed there are 29 undiagnosed. And celiac is usually the very last thing that pops into a doctor's mind, because the drug detailers have not educated them on it -
ARCHIVED Casein And Lactose
mushroom replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Have no idea what the percentages are, lactose vs. casein. I am only lactose intolerant, i.e., milk, cream, ice cream; the rest of the dairy stuff I can handle except frozen yogurt which does not appear to be real yogurt at all according to my digestive tract. I was lactose intolerant for 10 years or more before I recognized the gluten problem. I am also... -
No, I'm another one; always kept a pack of cigarettes on the corner of the coffee table because I knew I would have to resist them wherever I went and I might as well get in training at home If my husband smoked them I would replace them with a new pack

ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
mushroom replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was a diagnosed sufferer of IBS and fibromyalgia for at least 29 years; it was only after I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis that I began my research, found out that ankylosing spondylitis (another autoimmune rheumatoid disease) was treated with a gluten free diet and wondered if it would work with RA too, that I came to this way of eating. Then... -
ARCHIVED I Freeze To Fast And Get To Hot Help!
mushroom replied to munkafats's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, it is possible to have an allergy to heat/cold. My hubby is allergic to cold--breaks out in hives! About all you can do is avoid it -
Now that you have finally said I guit, you have to go one step further and say "I have quit". I found those were the magic words for me :D They gave me the motivation not to go back on my word. You are so right, hoping and trying don't really get you anywhere. But "I have smoked my last cigarette!", now that's powerful and empowering. I won't wish...
