  1. Our hospital in Reno (Renown) assures me they have a full gluten-free menu :) And dh is well-trained in the kitchen; in fact over the last year when my back has been bad he has handled the bulk of the cooking. Fortunately he is gluten free too, although has no concerns about soy and corn, so I have to check what he buys Guess I'm pretty lucky!!

ARCHIVED Did He Have A Clue?

I have found only one dermatologist in my life who impressed me. Unfortunately she is in Petaluma, CA. Stuff my dermatologists at home ignored, she biopsied...several basal cell and one squamous cell carcinoma. Unfortunately, I think like anesthesiologists, it is a specialty for those who graduated bottom of their class.
  3. Why do we have to get cold when you gets cold, Soozle? It's not going to get above 70 all day today in the glorious Sierra Nevada And just when the smoke cleared from the NorCal fires too. Why does California have to blow everything in our direction?? Sorry about your 'puter woes Yeah, isn't Soozun a kick in the pants!! I's going to have...
  4. The appearance of Sam Hill Manhead is mysterious indeed, and never has so much care been put into selecting an appropriate name Do ya think some woman who didn't appreciate what she had knocked 'im off 'is pedestal?? Her loss, our gain! Thanks for digging that out, Em. It plugged some other gaps too! Oh man, I can so relate to that one....
  5. The most common intolerances are of course lactose (because the damaged villi produce the lactase to digest the lactose); some people are intolerant of all dairy. Other major culprits are soy, corn, eggs, and with some people nuts. Those seem to be the major ones to try eliminating first. Pepto Bismol seems to be the preferred treatment for the distress...
  6. Yah, I believe it, like my mind will just fill in whatever it believes is appropriate That's what makes this place so much fun--mebbe evem better than the original!
  7. Well, I am sure glad to hear I am tolerable--in moderation at least
  8. Just a little Raychull poop- pop-in. And I thought that was reducing water ; was even considering switching from my diet Bacardi
  9. Patteigh, is this a TexAss desolate, industrial kinda space. Is you feeling a bit lost and lonely down dere?
  10. A ballcock is whatever you imagine it to be A Yeti, last I heard, was still a snowman, but I was not here when he made his original appearance. Ditto for when Sven came along; you just have to kinda go wif da phlow and pick things up in context as you go along. You will think that sons are husbands and husbands are sons, and mebbe even make a phool of...

    ARCHIVED Soy

I am no soy expert but I am soy intolerant. For me, no amount of soy is tolerable, even soy lecithin in most chocolate is a problem. But it's not a GI problem for me, it's a very itchy skin problem. So I am not worried about my gut, just about my scratching All my other food intolerances manifest themselves in itching and red rashes also.
  12. Gluten puts our autoimmune system into overdrive. It will often overreact to things that we will be able to tolerate later on once we heal. If you can identify what is causing you problems, eliminate those things for now knowing that it will probably not be forever. You have to give yourself time to heal and time for your autoimmune system to calm down...
  13. For many recently gluten free persons all grains can potentially cause problems. I would recommend that you eat pure simple, unprocessed foods until healing has taken place and reintroduce processed grains gradually. Rice is usually well tolerated by most, preferably brown for the nutrition and fiber.
  14. As I mentioned in another post, my lab report recommended two different treatments, one an antibiotic I can't remember, and the other a gentian formula which my c.diff was susceptible to. I chose the gentian formula and it worked very well. Vancomycin is pretty heavy duty stuff!!!
  15. Well, it was a long time ago now, about 17 years in fact, and my memory about treatment is not as good as it should be. I was diagnosed through Great Smokies laboratory, and their testing indicated that the the c. diff. would respond to an antibiotic or to a gentian formula. Since I had got in this mess because of a loooong course of antibiotics I chose...
  16. Gah!!! Potato starch I don't do nightshades, and just find out about two weeks ago that it was the potato starch that was causing me to itch for the last 20 months (after the psoriasis quit itching four months ago). I hadn't even thought about it.....dunno why. Sure makes life difficult when you don't do corn or soy either. Luckily I love buckwheat...
  17. I is busy baking all my gluten-free, potato-starch-free, soy-free, corn-free, citric acid-free, nightshade-free. phood-free baked goods. Clay says I'm glad you started baking again and I says, well, what choice have I?? Pretty soon I will be reverting to the mud pies of me childhood which were a lot more fun and you did't have to worry about making a mess...
  18. I certainly agree with the first part of your doc's statement. When I had c.diff. and yeast overgrowth my digestive system was a total mess. But I am very dubious about the gluten statement. I don't have your signature pulled up but I seem to recall that you did test positive for celiac, which is a lifetime disease. My iron levels were normal, B12 was...
  19. Is there any redness or inflammation around the calluses? Do they itch or hurt? I have psoriasis, and when I get it on my hands and feet this is how it reacts, with these huge calluses. But the ones on my heels are very inflamed and painful; the calluses on my hands itch and then crack. The area on the ball of the foot could also be psoriasis, which...
  20. Judy, that is so sad, he is such a beautiful boy. I am sure someone nice will fall in love with him on sight--I know I did!
  21. I'm like your husband, and have just found the Namaste mixes. I bought the brownie mix today. Tried their regular bread mix and was not overly impressed. Have found them at Whole Food and at a health food store that has a marvelous gluten free selection of stuff.
  22. You can buy pesto and try it out to see if its worth making your own. Basically it's fresh basil, oilive oil, pine nuts and parmesan, and yes, it is yummy. Peppercorns, forunately, come from a different family.
  23. Massive amounts of painkillers could make for a great fantasy novel! Glad everything went well, and as Ranger says, that one's a keeper!
  24. "He said he was shocked that people now can order gene testing over the internet without a doctor's permission. laugh." This man still has much to learn. The noive of it, to take away from doctors the key to the vault that contains medical information. He would probably be horrified to learn that in New Zealand you can refer yourself to a...
  25. Yeah, it is amazing what can be substituted for. But I have yet to find any nightshade-free way of making ratatouille  This used to be my signature dish
