  1. I quite often have that problem when I'm home and when I get back on find that everyone has been merrily posting away, but had no problem here in Nevada today.
  2. Way to go all you new non-smokers. I refuse to call you quitters because you are the exact opposite of that Had a mini-moment myself the other day, just walking along in pure fresh air minding my own business and I suddenly got a whiff of smoke from a freshly-lit cigarette, and for just a microsecond said to myself, "Mmm, dat smells good". After all...
  3. I can offer words of condolence, but not much enlightenment. I am 20 months down the gluten free road, and still chasing itchies. I am very much afraid that they do come from additional intolerances/sensitivites, of which we were previously unaware. For me they have been, successively, soy, citric acid, potato starch. I have not stopped itching yet since...
  4. How come everyone else can see PeOter's new av 'cept me??
  5. Quite right, both of you. I has been thru Fresno (but did not stop) but don't remember if 99 goes thru Clovis. If it does, I definitely did not stop. Was on my way to Springville and got lost in the orange groves trying to avoid going thru Porterville. I kept easting and southing, and phinally phound my way. If I hadda known that Soozle was in Clovis...
  6. Indeed! At least remove the roadkill
  7. Not to your part of Canada I'm afraid, and would love to do that too!! I could brush up on my French before I came. I once dated a guy from Toronto; does that count? No, haven't been east of the Rockies in Canada; the western part is much more accessible from CA.
  8. Well, it's certainly not for lack of wanting to that I haven't been there, I understand they are gorgeous (if you go at the right time of year ) So many places, so little time....
  9. I have NOT been to Maine OR Vermont
  10. You have to remember that the pepper family is quite large (but excludes the black pepper we grind). Not just bell peppers and chili peppers but paprika, dried chilies, chili powder, cayenne. These are in a lot of commercial seasoning mixes.
  11. I think it is probably easiest at first to buy some of the mixes and find out what kinds of flour combinations you like or (as for some of us) are tolerant of. Bob's Red Mill makes a couple of bread mixes, a pizza crust mix, etc. Lots of folks swear by Pamelas mixes. Generally all you have to add are oil/butter/shortening, eggs, water/milk, sweetening...
  12. So am I wrong, or is or is this not Friday night??? Wotever happened to the Friday night psilliness and the glasses of wine and the general drunken hilarity. I is phinally here for it and I is on me own!!! :( Must be Friday the 13th!!!
  13. Ah,"The Promise of Sleep". It is always there and sometimes fulfilled, but I tell you, 18 months (more) down the road, it is still pretty elusive. I have been decaffeinated for over 30 years and eliminated so many things from my diet I have lost count, but the promise of a full night's sleep is pretty elusive. It is always a surprise when I sleep through...
  14. We had an escaped con on the loose for a couple of months; he was first intercepted about five miles from us, but then escaped on a motorcycle and subsequently into the hills and bush on foot and the cops lost him. From then on it was kind of like a movie; he kept swapping vehicles, dumping one and stealing another; breaking into houses for food and guns...
  15. Re: development of osteoporosis (a cautionary tale). In 1995 I had a bone density scan which showed my bones so strong and dense I was told I would never have trouble with osteoporosis. At about the same time my husband had a whole body bone density scan which gave the same result. The testers were amazed how good our bones were, especially for our ages...
  16. I would think some blood testing would be in order. A comprehensive metabolic panel is a good place to start, but you should also be tested for iron, Vit D, B12, folate, calcium at the very minimum. These are the major deficiencies which tend to result from gluten intolerance and could be likely factors in anxiety and depression.
  17. Absolutely. This is the insidious part of celiac, it prevents our bodies from obtaining the nutrients we need from our food with the damage to the villi in the small intestine. And we then develop leaky gut syndrome where things are absorbed directly into the blood stream which are normally too large to go through the intestinal wall. This then can set...
  18. Depending on what form the calcium was in, it could have been a failure to digest and absorb the calcium.
  19. How do peeples manage to do these things??? Best not to ask I guess... Yes, the bread is Waaay easy to make with no exotic ingredients. Yeah, that's the part that always gets em going...What do you think I am, some frigging superwoman with a magic needle??
  20. You are generally pretty safe ordering a salad, hold the croutons and dressing (have a small container of dressing in your purse, and even some crackers if you need) and they can often put on that some naked grilled chicken or shrimp. In fact, they may even have gluten free salad dressing (oil and vinegar). You can often get by without even drawing attention...
  21. I did make de French breach today, and my vote is---phabulous!!!! Loved, loved, loved it. I made it in a loaf pan because I wanted the sandwich option and baked it a bit longer because of that and the altitude, used honey because I didn't have any cane sugar, used three small eggs rather than the egg whites , and it still turned out G R E A T!! Would...
  22. Wait, wait, ..... someone is reigning now? ?? Are you absolutely certain? Sure doesn't sound like it, dere is no order in dis place at all. I thought she abdicated last week and her hairheir said "no way" I is going there and doing that. And Gianknit persists in telling innocent newcomers that Emily is harmless
  23. With me, most food intolerances cause itching, whether invisible or in red blotches and wheals. Those are the same places I got the soy itches. Soy, citric acid, potato starch, have all done this. You will have to figure out for yourself what is getting to you. Took me over 18 months to figure out the potato starch. You will find that probably...
  24. Sounds like a phab phamily vacation, Mimms. Somehow I never thought of Michigan as having "coasts!! Sounds mighty sane to me. I have a sister who comes to visit, always wants to be doin' sumthin'. Complains to my other sister that I "don't do enough for her" when she visits me. Gad, she wears me out. HaHa, doesn't come so often now that there...
  25. The evidence and the family history certainly point in the direction of celiac. Don't forget that there are many false negatives on the blood tests (and even, sorry to say, on the biopsy). However, and I am no expert, I believe an elevated IgG is indicative of celiac. Perhaps the fact that it was not so wildly out of range, along with the other negatives...
