  1. Well, you could say Air New Zealand keep trying and failling to hit the mark. The rolls this time fell apart before you could even get the spread anywhere near them. I had assumed that they combined gluten free and dairy free since the rolls came with a soy spread which I could not touch. However, that theory went out the window when breakfast arrived...
  2. Well, I pronounces it halfway between, not quite Shiite, and not Shite, but more like shuh-itis. Of course, I is always right
  3. I posted a couple of weeks ago about a new itchy rash. Well it has spread and spread. I suspected citrus as I had been eating a lot of Mandarin oranges and drinking Bacardi with juice (which was mostly OJ based). So I eliminated citrus, or at least thought I did, and I started getting better. The twelve-hour flight was okay, declined all the OJ offered...
  4. A year ago hubby decided he could cheat on the gluten free diet--specifically sourdough french and beer. It didn't take too long before he broke out in DH on his forehead, something he had never had before. He stopped the gluten and it went away within a couple of months and has not returned.
  5. Being a very non-fashionista, didn't succumb to much of the horrors of the 80's. but oh, those body suits! You were lucky if the snaps were all that got snapped! And the stirrup pants--always felt like I should be on a gee-gee. But I did also do the dress tucked in thingy and was only mildly snockered; what's worse, no one told me!! No, not quite...
  6. Must be the California accent I guess. We were always taught farsh-ee-ah and the inflammation as farsh-e-I-tus. Definitely not faaash as in maaash. And the way he said the "eye"!!! sounded more like "oi-ee". Mebbe I'm easily amused
  7. T'is incredibly sad to "find" one's 'rents so late in life. So glad you did find your Dad. I found my dad only a year or two before he died, and I wasn't living anywhere near him then Last time I saw him he reportedly said to Dh" Take good care of ('shroomie), she's a good person". Of course he stilll couldn't say it to me. When he went I didn't...
  8. A man after me own heart. Glad to be back stateside so savoury things can stay savoury and not all tarted up with pineapple and (sweet) cranberry, and the panini don't have (sweet) chutney and/or relish. Ye gods, what sweet tooths! A dentist's heaven!

    ARCHIVED Seizure?

Since there were no witnesses, it is very hard to say whether or not it was some kind of seizure, though it sure sounds suspiscious. Do you have any other neurologic symptoms other than numb lips? My brother used to have mini seizures which I am now convinced were gluten related; developed them in his late 30's, had no residuals afterwards. Had other gluten...
  10. Gad. You remind me of when we arrived in San Josay in July; didn't drive and taking the non-conditrioned bus to intervyous, 103 degrees, dripping all the way whilst still trying to look like I stepped out of a bandbox; top floor apartment, not insulated, still 99 at midnight. YE GODS, WHAT HAVE I DONE??? I says to meselph. Dh was housesitting in Sonoma...
  11. Forgot to say, belated HAPPY BIRFDAY RACHEL
  12. Good Sundays to all Psillies. Sorry to have been MIA this past week--have been in transit and/or computerless. We finally got hooked up yesterday and the laptop we had left here over winter promptly up and died, deader than a mouse wifout its head; well, no, actually the mouse kept its head and still works but I think the hard drive gave up the ghost. Didn...
  13. So, no gluten, no soy, no corn, no caffeine, no nightshades, no lactose, no GI symptoms; but what I do have now is a blotchy, raised, a little bit scaly (dry), itchy rash on neck and arms x several days; unresponsive to psoriasis creams, hydrocortisone, moisturizers. I think it must be a food reaction. Anybody had a similar reaction?? to citrus perhaps...
  14. So if you had a "gluten intolerance" and autoimmune disorders (RA, Hashimotos, etc.,) they would be unrelated to the gluten??
  15. Interesting that you have Reflex Sympathic Dystrophy. My gluten intolerant sister also developed this in her arm after breast surgery and lymph node removal. I had never heard of it before.
  16. Yes, as you seem to know, you need to be consuming gluten for your tests to be valid. Even then there can be false negatives. The blood tests measure antibodies in the blood and you stop making them in the absence of gluten. I do not know what other testing you had done, or even if you had the full celiac panel. You should get a copy of your test results...
  17. My two cents worth (and maybe that's all they're worth)!!: We have all these specialists who know what they know about what they know. But they are used to hitting fast balls, and when you throw them a curve they miss nine times out of ten. And most of the people you will find on this forum are curve ball pitchers. So enough of baseball. I have found...

ARCHIVED Saw A Gi This Morning. . .

Praying for you that he does not find what he is looking for. But then, maybe he doesn't know a lot?? People with celiac don't vomit?? Extra tests can't hurt in ruling out other diagnoses
  19. Hi: (and so sorry you are feeling a bit lost). To take your questions in order.... If this is the way you are feeling, it could well be worth your while to go this route. A good listening ear and feedback its worth its weight in gold if you find the right person. It sounds like you are still going through the grieving process of celiac, what...

    ARCHIVED Vitamins

If you google Daily Menu in the searach box above you will come up with ideas from others of what to eat--we have different products down here so it is hard for me to advise you. Does your husband understand about cross-contamination issues and how he must keep all his crumbs to himself, not contaminate your spread and jams with his gluteny knife, etc. ...
  21. Beware de effect of da shroom!! you'll nevah know what hit yer
  22. Dear, dear Emily, of course you need support!. What a tough row to hoe! So many fractures with undiagnosed osteoporosis (what was wrong with those docs???) A failed marriage due to celiac, saddled with student loan debt for classes you were too ill to attend, medical bills you can't afford because you can't get a job that will pay for them because you...
  23. Aaah, Takala, you are sounding very jaded. At least they are recognizing there is a problem. Even if you don't agree with their solution When people are as far gone as we are their solutions are worthless, but for others coming along, who knows?? Don't deny others the chance of eating junk food The world is going to have to devise a way of killing...
  24. Do you get the halo effect, where the light seems to fractionate into hundreds of little lights around the light source? This happened to me immediately after the event which I am sure triggered my celiac response. My eyes then became sensitive to light during the day despite sunglasses all the time and would just stream in response. They told me I...
  25. Hello, and welcome to the forum. It is not only discouraged to stop eating gluten before diagnosis; absence of gluten even makes the diagnostic tests invalid. The blood tests measure antibodies to gluten which your body stops making in the absence of gluten; the biopsy measures damage to the small intestine, which starts to heal in the absence of gluten...
