  1. For anyone interested, @dixonpete just posted a blog update on his hookworm treatment progress:
  2. I had a similar experience recently when visiting some old friends this summer in Germany. I stayed for a week in a standard gluten-filled home, and like you, I brought with me some basics like gluten-free bread, tortillas, pasta, etc. Luckily I didn't encounter issues, but it may have been because I always tried to help in the kitchen (to watch over things...
  3. Most celiacs will benefit for a good gluten-free multivitamin & mineral supplement. One A Day and Geritol are good examples. Depending on the level of villi damage you have it could take a few months to heal, and normally you will regain lost weight after that point.
  4. So to clarify, you have now gone gluten-free because the hookworm treatment was not working 100% of the time for you? If this is the case perhaps you can go into your old threads on this topic and update everyone there about this change? I recommend this, as you've indicated in those threads that you've had zero issues with gluten since you started...
  5. Yes, if you look at the bottom right corner you will see the RSS feeds link: However, this will only alert you when new topics, article, etc., are posted, and not when individual replies are posted to topics. We do have features for this, for example notice the "Unread Content" link in our menu: https://www.celiac.com/discover/unread/ Which...

In some cases various food intolerances may go away...
  7. Welcome to the forum, and it's great to hear stories like yours--thank you for sharing!
  8. Welcome to the forum. This article may be helpful:
  9. It is highly doubtful that your childhood vaccines are related in any way to your current health issues, and no link has ever been found between any vaccines and celiac disease. @Russ H I would also be interested in more studies on whether the strep vaccine could have any effect on the incidence of celiac disease. This is a very interesting study that...
  10. Welcome! We do have an extensive recipe section here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/gluten-free-recipes/ and this article might be useful:
  11. It sounds like your mother may not have had a celiac disease panel, so could have either celiac disease or NCGS. Since you have the genetic marker for celiac disease, and your mother has gluten sensitivity, you have two paths: 1) eat a couple of slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks and get a full celiac disease blood panel, or: 2) go gluten-free and...
  12. Was your mother ever tested for celiac disease, or is she just self diagnosed with gluten intolerance? I ask because at least one study has shown that up to 44% of first degree relatives of celiacs also have celiac disease.
  13. I see that there are perfumes that seem to be made from wheat and/or wheat germ, and they market them as such, but the real question here I think is how many regular perfumes might contain wheat?
  14. You have 3 strong positive tests for celiac disease which makes it extremely likely that you do have it. This article talks about the probabilities for a positive on each of these tests:
  15. The below batch of Snaktastic gluten-free sea salt lentil bites has been misdeclared as gluten free. This product is labelled as gluten-free but contains gluten, this may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten. Allergen(s): Cereals containing gluten Product Identification: Snaktastic...
  16. Thank you for sharing...it is getting harder to find such groups as many vanished during the pandemic.
  17. There should be tons of them available now, are you having a hard time finding such items? Do you have Costco near you? They carry Kind bars and other brands of gluten-free bars and snacks.
  18. I'm not sure exactly which article you mean @knitty kitty, was it a recent one? This article also might be helpful:
  19. Although it may be too late now, the article below may be helpful for accidental gluten issues. I also always take GliadinX enzymes when eating out (disclosure--they are a sponsor here but I promote them because they work on small amounts of contamination):
  20. Welcome to the forum! It may also make sense for you to get a celiac disease blood panel before going gluten-free and making any dietary changes. Talk to your doctor about this, but here is more info:
  21. I'm not sure if they cover seeds, but these articles may be helpful:
  22. I think your approach is a good one. It's always safer to eat at home and prepare the food yourself so you know exactly what is in it.
  23. Making the transition to a gluten-free diet can be difficult for anyone, and especially a teenager. If you live near a Trader Joe's, Costco, Walmart, Whole Foods, etc., you should have access to many high quality gluten-free products, and I've found that some of the best deals are at Costco (they offer 2 packs of gluten-free pizzas and Franz gluten-free bread...
  24. If you don't have issues with them they are fine, just be sure you are buying gluten-free oats because they are often cross-contaminated with wheat. Also, around 9% of celiacs cannot tolerate avenin, the protein in oats.
