Roofing Advice Needed!
Scott Adams replied to knitty kitty's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
They would power your entire home, and charge the car! There are other companies also making them, but if I were doing a new roof now, I'd be looking at this as a possibility. -
Can anyone help
Scott Adams replied to Deirdre Hankins's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A scientist created this recipe, and I think that comes through once you see it, but it is supposed to be very good, as per the comments below it: -
Roofing Advice Needed!
Scott Adams replied to knitty kitty's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It seems like metal roofs would get really hot, but who knows? With our composite roof we were able to pick out a lighter colored shingle, so it helped to keep the house cooler. I also know that since we did ours (or course) several companies offer solar shingles, including Tesla: https://www.tesla.com/solarroof -
PS - For the driving version, or even flying, also consider staying in Flagstaff, AZ, as it's only about 1.5 hours south of there, and they have many more hotel and food options. You could fly to PHX and rent a car, then drive to Flagstaff in a couple of hours, or just drive there from MI. Flagstaff is also along the original Route 66 from Chicago to LA.

Welcome to the forum, and I'm sorry to hear you're feeling badly on a gluten-challenge. I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you've clearly linked your symptoms with eating gluten, so you're half way there. The bad news is that for a celiac disease blood test to be accurate you need to be eating around 2 slices of wheat bread...

Roofing Advice Needed!
Scott Adams replied to knitty kitty's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm definitely no roofing expert, but did have a similar situation on my 1967-built track home here in Santa Rosa, although I did not have a metal roof. Our original roof was wood shingle, and they had put a composite roof over the top of it sometime in the late 80's. What we had done was: 1) Tear off both roofs; 2) Lay down new plywood over the... -
Can anyone help
Scott Adams replied to Deirdre Hankins's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know Carol Fenster's recipes are usually considered to be very good, but I haven't made the specific one you mention. In general gluten-free bread "dough" can vary a lot, some are more like the consistency of pancake batter, and this is especially true for bread machine recipes, but others are more like regular bread dough but not as sticky. I know... -
I merged your topics, because they are very similar, but thank you for sharing your celiac test results, which appear to be negative, but I can't tell for sure because it's not clear to me your score vs. the reference range marker for celiac disease used for each test. I will assume that they are all negative, as your doctor has indicated. You mentioned...

Wow, this sounds like a big trip! Not to discourage you in any way, but have you checked into flight and hotel prices for Las Vegas? The reason that I ask is because at 4 hours and 40 minutes drive from the South Rim it is a very doable day trip from Las Vegas, especially for this time of year. Of course you'd need to rent a car for this, or join one...

Anything is possible, but their products are, I believe, made in a dedicated facility. My daughter and I have been eating the various Trader Joe's gluten-free products for many years now and never had an issue, but again, it's possible they had some sort of issue with a batch. Did you save any of this product? If so, you could do a report to the FDA, and...

I'm sorry you got glutened! The article below may be helpful, but it's likely too late for this episode. Just like symptoms for celiac disease can vary greatly from person to person, so can the symptoms of glutening. For some they have few symptoms, and sometimes none, but for others the symptoms can be almost immediate and severe. It is quite common...

What is Xanthan Gum? Does it Contain Gluten?
Scott Adams commented on Gini Warner's article in Summer 2010 Issue
This article is from 2010, as indicated (Journal of Gluten Sensitivity Summer 2010 Issue. NOTE: This article is from a back issue of our popular subscription-only paper newsletter. Some content may be outdated.), but after re-reading it I see nothing that is incorrect about it.- 7 comments

Help Understanding Test Results
Scott Adams replied to SarahBee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
These three specific tests are strongly positive, so it looks like you may have celiac disease: Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG: 56 (normal: 1-19) tTG IgA: 11 (normal: 0-3) tTG IgG: 12 (normal: 0-5) Your doctor may want to schedule an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis, so you would need to keep eating gluten until that test is done... -
Gluten Intolerance Withdrawal and Healing Process
Scott Adams replied to Shamogi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum! I just wanted to also mention, given your long history of symptoms and prior negative celiac blood test, than you indeed may have non-celiac gluten sensitivity, especially if your symptoms improve on a gluten-free diet. If you can get a copy of your old blood test results and share them they could reveal more info, so perhaps you can...- 6 replies

Unfortunately, at least in the USA, Corn Pops contain wheat starch and are not considered gluten-free: https://smartlabel.kelloggs.com/Product/Index/00038000154997#ingredients It's possible that the ingredients are different in Mexico.

Constipated eating zero gluten?
Scott Adams replied to LumpyLady's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Another thing that is often mentioned here, magnesium citrate is a supplement that many celiacs need to take, and it can act as a laxative as well. You can get a gluten-free version of it at Costco. -

The Chalice: How much of a risk is this, really?
Scott Adams replied to currier54's topic in Super Sensitive People
It can be difficult to know exactly where any cross-contamination might have come from, but it's possible that some people have linked it to the common cup. You may want to look through our archives as many people have discussed this: https://www.celiac.com/search/?q=chalice&quick=1 -

Question about test results
Scott Adams replied to driftwood7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The dermatologist appointment may not be necessary now that you have a formal diagnosis of celiac disease, but it never hurts to investigate the skin issue just in case.
