ARCHIVED Any Ideas On What To Do With My Smoked Chicken?
mbrookes replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lightly saute 1/4 cup onion and 2T chopped green pepper. Add a box of Pacific condensed cream of mushroom soup, chopped chicken, a little pimento, salt & pepper. Serve this over canned or fresh steamed asparagus. It's also good over toast. With a fruit salad, this makes a good, quick meal. Even non-gluten-free husband likes it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Rolls, Recipe From A New Restaurant In My Town
mbrookes replied to BethM55's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That recipe sounds very good. I can't wait to try it... probably tomorrow. -
This year I plan to make my homemade pronto pups and take them along with some little packets of muustard. That, along with the other things already mentioned, should get me through our State Fair. The pronto pups come from Carol Fenster's book "100 Best Gluten Free Recipes". They are really good.

ARCHIVED Read Anything Good Lately?
mbrookes replied to GFreeMO's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have particularly enjoyed Nevada Barr's books. They are mysteries with a female park ranger main character. Janet Evanovich's books are really fun...light mysteries with a cast of nutty characters. I, too, love Patricia Cormwell's books, but I have read all of them and can't wait for the next one. Greg Isles has written several real page turners... -
Mimi's is a fairly new place in the Fondren area. They have several options that are naturally gluten free (tuna salad, chicken salad etc on bed of greens) and the lunch special tacos are on all corn tortillas. They are great about working with you (sure, bring your own crackers) and the owner even said she is going to try to start having a gluten free dessert...

mbrookes replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just discovered Taste of Thai at the grocery store. These dinner mixes are gluten free (marked on the package). Last night I made Pad Thai with chicken. It was wonderful. -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Symptoms When You Get Glutened?
mbrookes replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My symptoms are mostly intestinal... D and nausea. I never had emotional or depression problems at my sickest. OK, I AM Pollyanna, but I always have been. Dull headache sometimes. Arthritic knee a little worse. Usually lasts a couple of days. Bad enough to follow diet as closely as possible, but not a bad as many of you. -
ARCHIVED Allergy Medications
mbrookes replied to josh052980's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called Advil today about their decongestant. They said there is no gluten in the ingredients and they do not add any gluten. Of course, I got the CYA that they can't gaurantee it is gluten free, but I'm taking it with no ill effects. I am a great believer is "call the company". Many will have a legal dept requirement that they cannot gaurantee it is... -
ARCHIVED Makeup?
mbrookes replied to 33 in Ca Celiacs and DH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As an esthetician, you probably don't want to insist that all your clients use gluten free prodcts. You should be OK there if you are very careful abut washing you hands after any applications. That's a good idea anyway. -
ARCHIVED What Liquors Can I Have?
mbrookes replied to Marley25's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
he only liquors I have had a problem with (not that I have tried them all.....) are the sour mash bourbons such as Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. I think that is just my own peculiar system and not a problem with gluten. -

ARCHIVED How Would A Gluten Free Chex Mix Go Down With The Glutenoids
mbrookes replied to kellynolan82's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I entertain frequently and Chex mix is a favorite. No one has ever commented on the gluten-free part; they just wolf it down. Whenever I entertain I make all of the food gluten-free. If I can't eat it, I don't make it. Many party type foods are naturally gluten free. With the wide variety of gluten-free crackers now available making appetizers is a snap.... -
ARCHIVED How Did Your Doctor Tell You?
mbrookes replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband took me to the emergency room when I reached the point that I could barely stand and I was loosing my vision. BP was 40/60 and they couldn't feel a pulse. Fortunately my internist called on a GI to consult and she immedately suspected Celiac. After the positive biopsy she told me I had Celiac disease and it could be totally controlled with... -

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
mbrookes replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I actually have two breakfasts. First is a carton of fat free yogurt (Usually Yoplait). Then it's off to the gym. When I get back I have a protein. Today it was peanut butter on apple slices. When I went gluten-free, I gained a ton of weight. I'm within 10 pounds of my goal, so I'm pretty strict with myself right now. -

mbrookes replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I vacation at VA Beach every summer. Have you tried Heritage Health Food for gluten-free items? It is located on Laskin Rd across and a little west from Beach Pub. They carry Udi's products as well as many others, including a good selection of gluten-free beer. -
You can also make "motherless gravy" if you haven't cooked any meat or the meat didn't make drippings. Make a blond roux with butter and gluten-free flour(melt butter , stir in flour and whisk for a few seconds to get rid of raw flour taste)Add a good beef or chicken gluten-free broth ( I use Emeril's) and whisk like mad as you add it. Correct seasoning...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cocktails?

ARCHIVED Another Whiskey Question
mbrookes posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had no trouble drinking bourbon, unless it is a sour mash type (like Jack Daniels) Is there something in the sour mash that causes problems, or is it just my peculiar system?
