  1. Are tums gluten free? I thought they weren't. When I get GERD, I just wait for it to go away which takes a few days usually. Tums would probably be better. I ran yesterday and today I'm going to row and swim.
  2. That happened to me too. At first I felt fantastic just eliminating cereal and bread. I hear that as our immune system settles down we become more aware of lower levels of gluten. It got worse and worse for me and now I can't eat out at all and I eat very few processed foods. We also had to completely eliminate gluten from the household. It seems like...
  3. Well, I did that 3 mile run, the next day swam 40 minutes, and the day after that rowed 40 minutes. Now I need to decide whether or not to run because it is raining. I'm a bit of a weather wimp. My GERD is pretty well gone but still have morning tummy issues. Hope I can get cleaned up enough to get rid of that and then I can start to push myself more...
  4. Thank you so much! I've been looking for a bean source for ages. I'm so glad I read this post!
  5. I find that the elliptical can give me a pretty good workout without getting my reflux going when I'm in a glutened state and am having reflux problems. It's not going to do anything much with your upper body compared wit weights, but at least it is something. Decreasing processed foods does the trick for me as far as getting rid of those nagging symptoms...
  6. I have had problems with spices. You seem to suspect them. Why don't you eliminate them for awhile and see if you improve.
  7. I can tell you that my vision went from 20:40 to 20:20 after diagnosis and the gluten free diet. I looked for information on this and didn't find very much, but there was some. I think that it was a neurological effect, if I remember right.
  8. Keep your mind open to other sources of gluten contamination. There are so many possibilities which wouldn't include your stepson doing it on purpose. We weren't able to remain healthy until we made our whole household gluten free and the non gluten free members were doing their very best not to contaminate the celiac members.
  9. I'm doing better again. I ran 2.5 miles Mon and rowed for 30 minutes on Tues. Today I'm planning to run 3 miles. It does feel great when you can out do your kids with energy. Last time I ran with my daughter, I outdid her. She's been running a lot more than I have recently, so I wouldn't outrun her now. Cinnamon seems to be the cause of my latest. I...
  10. You need to check your sources on Mad Cow. It is caused by prions which healthy animals get from eating parts of other affected animals which are added to their feed. It is not transmitted by grain.
  11. After posting that I got my teeth cleaned and think I got glutened. I don't know what it could have been. I haven't been glutened by them efore and they said that nothing has changed. I hope you get through it O.K.
  12. I didn't go skiing. We had plenty of snow, but it was too warm! I went running instead. I haven't been for 6 weeks or so, so I only went 2 miles, but it wasn't bad. Unfortunately I got into some gluten recently and my GERD acted up so I was burping acid for the last mile. Today I just went for a walk and did housecleaning. The housecleaning was more...
  13. I was very angry too. It really didn't help that gluten also affects my emotions. They were on a roller coaster ride while I was trying to figure out this diet and would get healthy just to accidentally gluten myself again. Put off weight loss plans until you get this stuff figured out. Don't make it harder on yourself than it has to be. My weight yoyoed...
  14. I got a mill from which the first batch of flour I made was slightly contaminated. They tested it's grinding ability with rice, not wheat at my request, but they test their others with wheat and perhaps they did this one in the same room, or without changing gloves, or whatever. I put through about 12 cups of rice before it came out what I felt to be uncontaminated...
  15. I did react to Kinnickinnick's delicious donuts, but just about everything processed gets me. I think someone on an earlier page in this link mentioned reacting to their products too.
  16. Hope so. We need to rinse very carefully. Maybe if the grains don't cause distress we are better off not washing because the soap might cause problems. What a dilemma.
  17. I got back to rowing or going on the elliptical for 30 minutes a day. For the last couple of days I've been shoveling snow. I have enough of that in my driveway to last me another couple of days. I was going to swim on Friday, but then there was a snow day so the pool was closed, too bad. I haven't gone swimming in two weeks now. It's great exercise...
  18. You must love all those fresh eggs.
  19. You can bring a cooler and a mini microwave or hot plate to use in the hotel. We stopped eating in restaurants after we got tired of getting glutened. Coleman has a cooler that will plug into the car or electrical outlet.
  20. Can you take it apart and clean it?
  21. I agree. Why don't you educate your store about gluten free product placement? Many in your area will than you. I hope you figure out your gluten sources and feel better soon.
  22. Joint pain is something I had pre diagnosis. It went away within about 4 months gluten free. It came back with a vengeance yesterday when I got a serious glutening. I am so much better today already. I've been healing over two years. Recovery seems much faster now. You might want to revisit your diet, or maybe you just need more time.
  23. I grind my own flour and it is a lot less expensive. I am also very sensitive and that way I can make sure that my grains are clean before milling. I wanted to be able to grind corn too, and a lot of them won't do that. I decided on a hand cranked grain mill. The country living grain mill. I like it, but hand cranking isn't for everyone. When it arrived...
  24. Can I join you gals? I decided that I was finally healthy enough again to exercise more seriously. I signed up for a mini triathlon this summer and I've been training for that. I had a down period when something I was eating was bothering me and it took quite awhile to figure it out. I was just getting back to it when I got hit again yesterday. I feel...
  25. I have found that strenuous exercise really points out issues with my gluten free diet. The same was so with my son (12). He did cross country running this spring and threw up after each run. We finally removed processed corn products from his diet and now he can run without throwing up. Oddly enough, he can still eat corn in the flour that I make myself...
