  1. The same thing happened to me. At first I felt completely healed from just eliminating bread and Cheerios. The longer I was gluten free the more sensitive I got to gluten. I had to educate myself more about the diet. I was still eating gluten in unexpected places. It was quite a long process for me. Be patient. It is worth all the effort. I feel so...
  2. I have noticed that too. As someone mentioned, glutening can make you awfully grumpy. In forums, as in life, there are different folks. Bullies don't bully when people surround the victim and help out. It is the responsibility of all of us to try to keep the forum positive. We all need to step in and and be supportive if we think that someone is being...
  3. I hope I didn't give the impression that I was saying that it isn't possible to drink water in a bar. I only had that problem one time. They had the ice stored right under where they served up the draft beers. I just meant that if you are sensitive you might want to check that out.
  4. What was that about doctors pledging to do no harm? Anyway, I'm really sorry you guys. My thinking is that you can heal faster with a super pure diet of produce and unprocessed meats and then add those other foods after you are feeling better. Keep a food/symptom journal and you should be able to notice additional food intolerances too. Also as mentioned...
  5. If your problems are being caused by what you are eating you can figure it out by keeping a food/symptom journal and doing challenge/elimination diets. Keep track of the source of the foods and not just the ingredients. That can indicate possible cc as well as other food intolerances. Eliminate for a week and then reintroduce. This has helped me tremendously...
  6. I got glutened in a bar once when all I had was ice water. Have a look at how they wash the glasses and how the ice is stored. I should mention that I am very sensitive so typical celiacs shouldn't have to worry about this.
  7. My son has had this twice. The second time we went to the ER and they kept him there overnight. It did not respond to the standard treatment for allergy. Finally they decided it wouldn't get any worse since it hadn't yet. It got better slowly during the next day. They mentioned hereditary angioedema and we had him tested for it but it was negative. ...
  8. Before my diagnosis I had 20:40 vision and had used eyeglasses for 30 years. In addition to that, I had vision problems that the ophthalmologist was monitoring by giving me various tests every 6 months. There were a few different types, and I remember one being field of view. I had high pressure in my eyes and she thought I might be developing glaucoma...
  9. It depends on your level of sensitivity. I found that I needed to keep track of what I ate, and stop eating it if it bothered me. Just because someone else was able to eat it did not mean that I was able to eat it. That was a painful lesson to learn. It isn't true for everyone, but if it is true for you, you need to be informed. I did have problems...
  10. I am in the super sensitive camp and I did think that I reacted to McCormicks spices. I did better buying fresh spices in the produce department. Now I grow my own. I got a curry leaf plant for curry. Did you know that the curry mixture that you buy is an attempt at producing the same taste that comes from this plant? It grows indoors in a sunny window...
  11. Have you tried Kinnikinnick? They are made in a gluten free facility. They don't even let their workers bring in lunch. I used to eat them before my symptoms got the better of me. They test to 5 ppm according to Jane Anderson: Open Original Shared Link
  12. You are welcome. I know that the diet that works for me is not the diet that everyone needs. It is important to let your doctors know what's going on as well. They will have test results, medical history, and medical training to help you figure out what is going on. You might want to show them the study. It is pretty new and not all medical professionals...
  13. It does seem that a diet that is gluten free for most celiacs is only gluten lite for other celiacs. Here is a link to mention of a study of celiacs who were reacting to trace gluten contamination: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/100327-trace-gluten-responsible-for-ongoing-symptoms-study/ There are also other possibilities that others will probably...
  14. My son had strange lip swelling twice. In the emergency room they mentioned hereditary angioedema and I had him tested for it. He was negative, but maybe that could be whats going on in your case. I hadn't heard of it. My son ended up with a idiopathic angioedema diagnosis. One of those "we don't know" useless diagnoses. He was glutened at the time...
  15. I know that Lundberg takes great care, and I appreciate it.. I still can't eat it without having symptoms, and I can eat rice from another source. Of course, it could always be for some other reason, but the oat cover crop seems the most likely since I am sensitive to oats.
  16. It isn't crazy talk. Other's have problems like this. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/89834-glutened-who-was-the-culprit/?hl=%2Bglutened+%2Budi#entry774235 https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/88928-am-i-being-glutened/?hl=%2Bglutened+%2Budi#entry764721 https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/82666-does-anyone-know-what-ppm-udis-products-tests...
  17. Thanks, I'm almost all better already. It can help to write down the source of the thing that you are eating and not just what it is. I have found that sometimes one is source is good and another isn't.
  18. There are lots of magnolia trees here in Rochester, NY. They do get hit by frost sometimes. Then it looks like there have been dogs up there or something as the flowers go from yellow to brown. I grew sweet potatoes last year too and they worked well, except that we ate them up way too fast. I also ate the greens for months. I really like them, but...
  19. I hope you do OK with the Bard's Tale. I drink Metaxa Ouzo. It's an acquired taste.
  20. This one was my first. I used to check out two others that are no longer in existence. One of them has moved to braintalk. communities. It used to be Gluten Free and Beyond. Those guys are really good at reporting on the latest literature. That's something that really interests me with my science background. I'm a little lazy at doing searches and I...
  21. I'm late to this thread, but can I join in? My Elizabeth (yellow) magnolia is blooming. I planted it as a baby and now it's full size. I also have lots of daffodils. I'm in NY, but by lake Ontario so I'm in zone 6 and not 5 like most of the state. I planted peas and fava beans last fall and over wintered them under garden fleece. The fava beans...
  22. My son was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 10. His main symptom was GERD. He was also on an anti GERD diet as well as the gluten-free diet. In our case, the GERD went away with the gluten-free diet so that we were able to add back things like tomatoes. The thing that helped most was to stick to unprocessed foods. Things like rice and potatoes, corn...
  23. I have tried several gluten-free beers. I remember Greens, New Grist, Redbridge and Bard's Tale. I think I only tried Greens and New Grist once and they didn't make me feel too good. I have no proof that it was gluten reactions, but that is what it felt like. According to many here there are many other things that can give you reactions that feel like...
  24. Maybe I should have said "I already agree to disagree." I've really never had much difficulty with disagreeing in this situation. It is very clear to me that celiacs vary and that what works for some does not work for all. Not everyone needs to take the precautions that I take, and not everyone can eat the things that less sensitive ones can eat. ...
  25. I suggest that you keep a food/symptom journal. Change what you eat a bit and see if it gets any better or worse. You can try eating more of something for a few days and see if it gets worse. You can try not eating something for a few days and see if it gets better. A week works better than just a few days, but it depends on your patience and discipline...
