  1. I agree. Alcohol consumption is not the best thing when you are sick. Thank you for being more clear.
  2. Thanks for the advice. I've been thinking about pressure canning, but hadn't gotten to buying anything yet. I've barely done any regular canning. I much prefer the taste of frozen, but the freezer fills up fast. Any advice about pressure canners?
  3. It isn't like starting over. I made steady progress despite glutenings as I was figuring stuff out. You will too.
  4. It is thought that a gluten reaction comes from a certain amount of daily intake and not a certain concentration. There have been studies done on this. This is an FDA review of the studies which is long: Open Original Shared Link This is the most often cited one from which the 20 ppm safe limit came. Open Original Shared Link You will see that...
  5. Something like 10% of celiacs react to the avenin in oats similarly to how they react to the gluten in wheat, barley and rye. If you had a really bad reaction, you may be in this group. If you try again, try just a little bit of gluten-free oats until you know that you can tolerate them. I am in the oat sensitive group myself and I wish that someone had...
  6. With a pressure canner, can you can things like veggies without adding acid or anything else? How hard is it to do? My freezer is getting way too full. I think I need to start doing some canning as well as dehydrating.
  7. Have you changed something in your diet? Did you try a new product or eat our where some cc might have happened? Is your celiac having a flare due to accidental gluten ingestion?
  8. You are welcome. Have a good summer. My 16 year old son has started running recently. It is good to see him able to do that. For so long his reflux symptoms kept him from being able to do much.
  9. It could be additional intolerances, it could be cc from your mother. It could be cc in the food. I would suspect the gluten-free products before the tomato sauce. It might be a good idea to only buy gluten-free foods that have been tested to below 5 ppm. It could be that he is sensitive to lower than usual amounts of gluten. It could be that he still...
  10. I had a phone call with a farmer who had been shipping eggs in the mail. Some government agency had come down on her. Eggs need to be shipped in a narrow temperature window and they were still trying to figure out a way to do that. It probably wouldn't be practical for a flock of 17 hens. Lisa's idea is a good one. There is a pasture raised meat and...
  11. I had been unable to have dairy for years before diagnosis. After about a year I tried some cheese and was able to tolerate it. These days I can have about 3 glasses of milk a day. (It's from grass fed).
  12. I understand the fatigue. Some days you might just want to go for a walk. It really does help to get out and do something.
  13. I think that this is the closest celiac support group: Open Original Shared Link They have some restaurants on the site, or you can join the e-mail group and ask the members for suggestions.
  14. I have to agree than any possible tiny cc from tomatoes would most likely be much less than any cc from the sitter. There is also the nightshade sensitivity issue to consider. In how much detail have you described the situation to the sitter? How old is your son? The transition period can be a bit tricky, but once you get things figured out, you will...
  15. Coffee has sometimes been found to fraudulently contain barley. Open Original Shared Link That might be the cause of some people's issues.
  16. I would love it, but I'm not close enough.
  17. The link given above is titled: "Effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on hepatic tight junction after partial hepatectomy in rats." It refers to the liver and not to the intestines, plus it is done on rats. I would not, personally, take that to mean that taking fish oil would help my celiac disease symptoms. It is really difficult to interpret...
  18. I'll tell you what I remember working with my kids when they were clingy. I smothered them with attention. Then they got reassured and felt independent again. I found that if I tried to push them away before they were ready, it backfired.
  19. You can learn a lot about cooking on the internet. It actually doesn't take that much longer to make a rice stir fry from fresh produce than it does to prepare it from a box. You just need to get used to the routine. My 16 year old son cooks up our veggies while I make the rice and he does a great job.
  20. Definitely work out. I believe that it helps with the healing process. I always feel better when I work out. Don't worry about the 6 pack abs though. Just try to be healthy. From a woman's point of view, sometimes those really built guys just look self centered rather than appealing.
  21. Thank you. There seem to be few places where you can get beans that aren't processed in a shared facility.
  22. The studies I saw: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link were for Bifidobacterium infantis 35624 Along with Align, Natren makes a product containing it, and they have a formulation that uses goats milk instead of cow milk. My son and I have both been taking the Align and I think that it does make us less sensitive to gluten. We both...
  23. You need to consider the detection limit of the test. Some are sensitive to lower levels than detectable by home tests. Open Original Shared Link
  24. There isn't an easy way to tell if you are super sensitive or not. A month isn't very long at all for healing. You could reduce some of those processed things. You can always try adding them back later. I hope you feel better soon. It is hard to try to do well in high school while sick all the time. My super sensitive son is 16 and I see that with...
  25. It is very hard to figure out what exactly it is that you are reacting to. I have often blamed it on one thing only to find that it was another. In my case, I get sick the next day so that it could be anything I ate the day before. It can take quite awhile to get it all sorted out. You have to be patient. Write it all down. It's pain, but worth it....
