  1. I so agree. How can they say that certain levels are safe when they have excluded those for whom they weren't safe!!
  2. Since the people who get sick drop out of the study and don't get the biopsies, I'm not sure that they aren't getting damaged. I get uncontrollable D, from trace gluten exposure which seems to indicate intestinal damage. I think that some of us might be able to handle 200 ppm just fine and others might not. Anyway, I don't want to take any chances. My...
  3. As you can see gluten free doesn't mean absolutely no gluten. There is no test to measure that. There are tests which measure to lower levels than 20 ppm though. I wish that the FDA would change it's recommendations. I believe that I react to these levels. I can't eat many of the things mentioned in this thread, but I can eat whole versions of the...
  4. I agree with that based on my experience.
  5. Some celiacs are more sensitive to low levels of gluten than others. My son and I are both very sensitive. We couldn't get better until our whole household went gluten free. The other members of our household were very careful, certainly more careful than young children (sorry young children) and we still kept getting sick. Many celiacs do fine with a...
  6. I am very sensitive so I just use fresh spices.
  7. I crack my own nuts. It is tedious, but that way I can be sure that they are gluten free.
  8. My son got the red ears before the diagnosis and before gluten free. Now he doesn't get them anymore. 10 years old at diagnosis. I have only heard of it as a symptom anecdotally.
  9. I play saxophone. One time I very absentmindedly put some cork grease on my lips thinking that it was lip balm. I was very worried that it might contain gluten. I rubbed it off right away. I am so sensitive to gluten that I have cut out almost all processed foods, yet the cork grease/lip balm did not make me sick, so I think that it is safe. The brand...
  10. Gluten free doesn't mean absolutely no gluten. It just means under some certain amount. Soon to be set at 20 ppm, I think. Some of us might be sensitive to smaller amounts. That might have something to do with why the gluten free amount is set to under 5 ppm in Australia and New Zealand. When I ate rice chex I seemed to get a gluten reaction too.
  11. I noticed that a gluten free company Savonnerie makes deodorant. I haven't used it or anything so I'm not endorsing it. I just noticed it when I was ordering their lotion.
  12. There is a link. My mother died of lymphomia at 47, and I didn't figure out I had celiac till I was 48, so I freak out too. In her case she went to doctors for years with lymph problems. They kept telling her it was just a viral infection when they were probably missing signs of early lymphomia. I don't know if it can be easily diagnosed early or not...
  13. I used to vomit a lot before I knew I had celiac. People always thought I was some kind of horrible drunk, or had food poisoning. They tend to add wheat flour to teff because it keeps the cost down. I got sick from Ethiopian that said it was gluten free too. I haven't vomited since, but my celiac son does. Bioenzymes, and food easy on the stomach like...
