  1. I agree with most of the posters I see no reason to enact laws and regulations when vitamins are readily available. What about the people who prefer their food without additives? They would have fewer options with regulations. What about the expense of creating and overseeing the regulations? Don't we pay enough taxes already?
  2. It sounds like you need a doctor who knows more about celiac disease. While on the gluten-free diet, tests are unlikely to show celiac, even if you are experiencing some symptoms. The endoscopy biopsy is considered the gold standard diagnosis, so it sounds to me like you have it, but I am not a gastroenterologist. Many celiacs take many months to heal...
  3. If high fat and protein is botheriing you, look into exocrine pancreatic insufficiency: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/105648-exocrine-pancreatic-insufficiency/?hl=%2Bexocrine+%2Bpancreatic+%2Binsufficiency
  4. The reaction is expected to be dose dependent.
  5. Of course not. They provide links to the studies that have been done. I would read those for myself if I were trying to figure this out.
  6. Were those canned beans that you tried? If you are very sensitive you might want to try beans from a gluten-free certified facility. I noticed early on that I reacted to things that many could tolerate. Later I found that there were others with this seeming sensitivity to lower gluten levels. It seemed to me that these people often were the ones with...
  7. I used things like brine shrimp and blood worms and it worked fine. I got rid of the tank recently.
  8. I thought you were eating only steamed veggies and rice. Now I see you said "if" that's all you eat you are fine. Could it be that elsewhere in your diet there is some cc? How about going back to the steamed veggies and rice and add things one at a time to see what it might be? It could be gluten cc that is giving you the malabsorption problems.
  9. Be sure to ask that he be able to make up work when he is sick. My son's school's teachers all presented a "one day to make up for each day sick" plan for all students. He was a good student as was able to keep up with that plan so we didn't ask for more. Then he had an extended absence. The administrators decided he had missed too many days and he got...
  10. It could be exocrine pancreatic insufficiency caused by the glutening.https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/105648-exocrine-pancreatic-insufficiency/?hl=%2Bexocrine+%2Bpancreatic+%2Binsufficiency
  11. Are you taking digestive enzymes and still have fat malabsorption? Will your doctor not give you a prescription for them? You could try over the counter. What are you doing for protein nutritional needs? What about vitamin B12? I don't think that the doctors can know what they say they know about NCGS. There has been little study.
  12. Correlation does not equal causation. MDs are just as fallible as the rest of us. My former internist quit her practice to go back to school to study oriental medicine and acupuncture. I don't go for unproven stuff myself. I have also dismissed something as unproven when it was not. It's important to be skeptical but not dismissive. Acupuncture has...
  13. I don't eat out anymore either. I get too sick when glutened to take that chance, though I haven't been hospitalized. I found out recently that I get exocrine pancreatic insufficiency when glutened. Digestive enzymes make a big difference to recovery.
  14. I have had that problem of repeated accidental glutenings over a long period. It takes longer to heal from that but it does happen. I think that it depends on too many factors to give a time frame. Just be glad that you figured out the problem.
  15. That's what I was thinking.
  16. I can relate. My son was 10 at diagnosis and 17 now, and I can still relate. Administrators at the schools especially didn't understand. I think that they didn't want to understand. They don't get their tax dollars on sick days. These fad GFers really don't help with people thinking that it's in your head. Stick with it. Don't let them get you down...
  17. It took me awhile to get it figured out. Be patient with yourself.
  18. No worries. As a chemist it drives me crazy that someone would think that something would work which is diluted so much that they can't be more than one molecule of active ingredient left, if that. I can't help myself from speaking up. Sometimes things are labelled and called homeopathy that aren't based on that rediculous principle though. I'm glad you...
  19. I wasn't referring to natural medicine. Just homeopathy.
  20. It's been almost 7 years for me. I am still learning and improving. Keep working on it. I found digestive enzymes revealing. That way I could tell better what was bothering me for malabsorption reasons and what might actually contain gluten. Monitor your diet for nutrients and adjust as necessary. Keep that food/symptom journal and keep trying things...
  21. What kind of doctor are you seeing? Did a MD give you homeopathic treatment? Homeopathy is the theory that water mixed with something and then diluted so much that there can be none left retains the essence of the thing. There is no science behind it. I'm very surprised that a doctor would give that to you. Open Original Shared Link Was he perhaps...
  22. Don't tell the school. In the future they might treat any missed days as due to anxiety rather than illness. I shared my son's anxiety with the school when he was first diagnosed at age 10. Then 5 years later my son's school put him in a special 2 hour a day (only) program to reduce stress after he missed school due to a glutening. They would not understand...
  23. I think that Jane Anderson was referring to low levels that will not be detected with your home tests. You can contact her directly to see what she says. That test doesn't detect oats either and wild oats seem to be a common weed, and you mentioned being sensitive to oats in another post. You may be better off with gluten-free certification which can be...
  24. I was kidding. The waterfall sounds nice. I shouldn't kid when you are already nervous.
  25. I think that I have reacted to food certified to less than 5 ppm gluten. It is possible that they contained greater than that due to testing limitations. It is also possilbe that they contained avenin, which gets me too. It's also possible that something else was the cause. It's really hard to know for sure. There are quite a few celiacs who stick with...
