ARCHIVED Dating Seems Impossible :-/dilettantesteph replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease A picnic in an isolated place where a murder occurred, with a guy carrying a handgun sounds like something I'd run away from. Maybe a park with other people around would be more comfortable until you know her better. Good luck.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Certification Enforcement Aug 2014dilettantesteph replied to Celiac Ninja's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications It further complicated by a lack of accurate testing: Open Original Shared Link "The results demonstrate that current gluten analysis methods cannot accurately quantify prolamines in all food matrices and further work is needed to improve the reliability of gluten quantification."

ARCHIVED How Many Enzyme Pills Do You Take?dilettantesteph replied to user001's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I was almost off my pills, only needing one per day to control symptoms rather than the 6 I started with. Then I got glutened again and had to up them. I'm back down to one and I hope to be able to get off that one too. I'm thinking it takes about a month.

ARCHIVED Coping With Brain Fogdilettantesteph replied to tspiggy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease The mind wandering is amazing. It takes 10 times as long to accomplish anything and I can't really figure out why. I have no answers either. Getting glutened occasionally is so much better than living like that 24/7 the years before diagnosis.

ARCHIVED Can Lactose Intolerance Come Back?dilettantesteph replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders When I get glutened I seem to lose the ability to produce lactase for a couple of weeks. I also seem to lose the ability to digest fat. With cheese, which is lower in lactose than milk, it might be the fat getting you rather than lactose. These things are temporary as long as I fix my diet.

ARCHIVED How Many Enzyme Pills Do You Take?dilettantesteph replied to user001's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease The kind I take said 2 per meal. I did that as I healed and then weaned myself off them. I got down to pill per day when I glutened myself and had to go back up to 2 per day, one each with my higher fat meals. I hope to get down to done if I can manage not to gluten myself again.

ARCHIVED Did Your Vitamin D Levels Go Up?dilettantesteph replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I have some information about vitamin D levels. It seems that there were some very high levels of vitamin D being recommended. Then the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies were asked to study the matter by the US and Candian governements. They came up with lower recommendations. Many labs and doctors are still using the very high levels. Also...

ARCHIVED For Those Trying To Gain Weightdilettantesteph replied to notme's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I got down to 104 # and I'm 5'5". Digestive enzymes helped. I think fat malabsorption was part of the problem. I gained 10 lbs and I'm feeling better. Now I am eating cheese and macadamia nuts without having to run to the toilet. I also made a change to my diet which I think reduced gluten contamination.

ARCHIVED Store-Cut Pineappledilettantesteph replied to veryami1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications If I am having problems with glutenings of unknown source, I try to cut out all the possibilities I can, especially the easier ones. It seems pretty easy to me to cut up pineapple yourself. The more possibilities you eliminate, the easier it is to figure out what is causing a problem. Sometimes it just takes time to heal and how you feel each day has ups...

ARCHIVED As For Other Foods, Do Tomatoes Or gluten-free Bacan Make Anyone Else React?dilettantesteph replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Super Sensitive People I found that I got symptoms with tomatoes from the store, but not when I grew them myself. I don't know why. It could be variety, though I grow several different ones. It could be something used in farming. It could have been some other coincidental cause. I keep growing them and can a bunch of sauce to last me through the off season. I haven't tried...
