  1. It may be that you are a super sensitive celiac, reacting to lower levels of gluten than the norm. Some medications may have trace levels of gluten. They may be made in the same facility where medications are made that contain gluten, for example. Have you tried a diet of produce only with no grains or processed foods?
  2. Thank you! I was reading one of your posts and noticed your signature. Very impressive! :)

  3. I also had problems with them. You might want to try Enjoy Life. They are also certified gluten free, made in a dedicated facility, and free of all 8 major allergens. I did better with them.
  4. I am very sensitive so I buy my grains whole and sort and wash them. I have come across gluten grains as well as corn in my sorghum. I contacted the supplier and they used shared harvesting equipment. They said that they spend two days taking the harvester apart and cleaning it, and they use the first bit for animal feed. I guess they still managed to...
  5. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom to cancer when she was 48 and I was 21. I think I didn't grieve enough when it happened and it hit me hard months later. It sounds to me like a combination of the two, grief and glutening. I hope you feel better.
  6. Thanks for the reply. We already rented a studio (1 1/2) for her in the student ghetto. It is scary sending your child off on her own like that. Too bad we didn't connect earlier.
  7. I had to give those up too. I hope to find a chocolate source again someday. I thought I was addicted to chocolate, but I managed.
  8. You may be one of the 10% or so who reacts to avenin in oats just like to gluten. When I tried gluten free oatmeal I was sick for 2 months. I didn't take that little warning on the package seriously and had half a bowlful. In hindsight I should have tried a very small amount the first time. I was misdiagnosed until I was 48. I was sick as long as I...
  9. It's only been a few weeks. There is a lot to learn. You need to be patient with yourself. It will be worth it in the end. I felt like I was aging in reverse for a long time as I got better and better. I kept finding new symptoms which I hadn't even known were caused by gluten. It was worth every bit of frustration and difficulty. Good luck.
  10. I thought I reacted to that same B-12. I also think that I react to a lot of the other things on your list. The one that might be the worst could be the fish if it is farmed. I think that farmed fish tend to be fed gluten containing feed, and I don't know how well that would wash off when it comes to the extremely low levels of cc which some have problems...
  11. Have you been glutened recently? My husband found that after diagnosis and a gluten free diet he became much stronger despite thinking that he had no symptoms before diagnosis. I also became much stronger, but I had so many symptoms that it could easily have just been from being sick. He was on a business trip recently and suspects that he got a fair amount...
  12. You have many other possibilities. You might want to start with eliminating things processed in a facility that also processes wheat. That might be enough. The next step might be to cut out all processed grains. Then all processed foods. Wax coatings might come after that. Farmer's market season is coming up, you can probably get unwaxed and also fresher...
  13. There are many possibilities, some mentioned above. Another one is that different celiacs respond to different levels of cc. Some are able to eat anything as long as it doesn't contain gluten ingredients. Some only are able to eat certified gluten free foods to below 20 ppm. Some certified to below 5 ppm. Some only foods made in gluten free facilities...
  14. I have found that eating waxed items give me reactions that feel like gluten reactions. I can find unwaxed items which I don't react to. The FDA says this: "Are there examples of food products that are naturally "gluten-free"? Yes. The following are examples of, but are not limited to, foods that are naturally gluten-free: ... Fresh fruits and vegetables...
  15. I am one of the people on this board who did not get all the way better until I stopped eating most processed foods. I have even had problems with packaged naturally gluten free items. I was fortunate to have a GI doctor who was familiar with celiacs who react to very low levels of cc, so I found out about it from him. At that time, almost 5 years ago...
  16. Thanks for the idea. I hadn't heard of that before. What state do you live in?
  17. My husband's family is Norwegian and they are super huggers. My family, not so much.
  18. I sometimes don't join in, and sometimes I'll bring something. It goes situation by situation. I definitely see not joining in as a possibility. For instance, snack after soccer games. Do I really need to feed 30 kids when it is my turn, yet my kids can't ever eat it when it is everyone else's turn? Would it be fair for me to ask everyone else to provide...
  19. If it's any consolation, my kids are very sensitive. We already discovered the tropical fish food issue, years ago, and we don't have any other pets. We know it's a school problem due to patterns with vacations, weekends, etc. In middle school the kids ate in the lunchroom and my son ate elsewhere and that worked well. When they had food in the classroom...
  20. My son doesn't even eat at school. He would rather not take the contamination risk. My daughter does, but is very careful. They are having problems with other peoples food when they eat right next to them or leave crumbs behind. Kids at that age are not careful with their food. Most have no idea that they might need to be.
  21. I'm in zone 6 and this last winter I experimented with fabric garden row covers. It was a mild winter, but I was able to harvest turnips, rutabagas, beets, cole crops, leaf lettuce, parsley, parsnips and carrots all winter. Now cole crops and turnips are bolting and we have lots of greens to eat. This spring I have planted and eaten radishes. My strawberries...
  22. I had the same problem until I found a pasture fed dairy source. Maybe that would work for you?
  23. If your gluten free bread makes you sick, stop eating it. That might help. Different celiacs have different levels of sensitivity. What one may be able to eat, another might not be able to eat. Grain products might not work for you.
  24. I don't think that cholesterol results would tell if you are healing or not. You could ask for a celiac panel or better yet, a repeat endoscopy to get that information.
  25. Thanks for posting that. I have heard about people with severe reactions to corn, so that would explain it.
