  1. Have you thought about setting up your own mini kitchen? You could get a dorm fridge, microwave and hotplate and put it somewhere there is a sink. Then keep out of the kitchen. At the least it would give your husband the message that at least you are taking this seriously. If it works, he might be more supportive. My husband was more supportive once...
  2. My daughter was recently diagnosed and had the same problem. What she did is eat a bunch of something that we knew was cc'ed and then monitored her health. She came up with what she thought were tell tale signs of glutening. Mainly her belly gets huge. She also gets really unpleasant and grumpy but that is hard to self diagnose. Now when her belly is...
  3. Urinary incontinence is a symptom of untreated celiac and is one of my glutening symptoms.
  4. I feel for you. I have been through similar experiences. Protect your own mental health. That way you will be better able to help when she is ready.
  5. I think that I would have been diagnosed with refractory celiac by now myself. I have to be ridiculously careful about what I eat. I have been glutened by seafood bought at the counter. Now I have them change gloves and get it directly from the shipping package. I have been glutened by meat cut up and packaged in the store. Now I only buy meat packaged...
  6. I so agree. If I had listened every time someone told me that I couldn't be reacting to trace gluten in something, I'd still be sick today instead of feeling better than I have since I was a child.
  7. This about.com article explains about cross-reactivity: Open Original Shared Link
  8. Last time I flew was just before diagnosis. I understand your worries. I was in the D.C. area for a wedding in late August many years ago and the heat and humidity was awful.
  9. Not really. That is a very difficult thing, even for people without other issues. Add medical complications and other food intolerances and you have a complicated situation. It is something that only you can evaluate. Keep a food diary with what you eat and how you feel. One trick I have come up with to see if a particular item is bothering me is to...
  10. I found a study that showed that strenuous exertion increases intestinal permeability. I had it saved, but that computer crashed. I found it inline with my observations on training for a mini triathlon. I had to clean up my diet from more cc.
  11. You said something about cleaning a crumb filled kitchen. Maybe you need to have a gluten free household or at least get your house mates to be more careful with their gluten. You might be accidentally ingesting some. I think that would be more of a problem than the cereal.
  12. I had chronic bladder infections before diagnosis. I was drinking a lot of cranberry juice to prevent it. Still, I had to regularly take antibiotics for bladder infections. Now I've stopped drinking the cranberry juice, and I still haven't had any bladder problems. It was really bad as a kid. I was even hospitalized for it. It seems to be common for...
  13. It sounds to me like you may need to take additional precautions with your diet. You may be a super sensitive celiac. I found that to be the case for me when I started training for a mini triathlon. When you exercise hard you notice glutenings a lot more. My daughter is in the same boat as a distance runner. The bloated belly is the thing that she notices...
  14. Our gluten sensitivity levels vary. What is a crazy over precaution for one can be inadequate for another. I won't even let gluten into my home. I am sensitive to extremely low levels. You need to find what works for your level of sensitivity. I hope that your girlfriend can be more understanding. My husband finally came around after about three years...
  15. One time I ate at a friends. We ate outside and I brought my own food and sat with my chair pulled back from the table. Everyone else was eating gluten and we kept going in and out of a sliding door. I think I got glutened from touching that door and then not washing my hands. I guess I'll need to have wet wipes next time I'm in a situation like that...
  16. You wonderful woman. Your husband is so lucky. All our worrying and persuading has to come from the other direction. It isn't taken very well either. I agree that with super sensitives the whole house needs to be gluten-free. We tried very hard to do it shared and just couldn't.
  17. Yes, but I am extremely sensitive and many things that other super sensitives can eat, I can't. You might be able to tolerate it still.
  18. If not, I can give you a link to her blog.
  19. I remember reading somewhere that when the intestines are inflamed it is a good environment for yeast. My mid-wife told me that yeast infections can come from yeast in the intestine. I don't have any references for this information though, so take it for what it's worth.
  20. I think the best one I could find was Pocono's cream of buckwheat, but I don't eat that anymore.
  21. I have had problems with getting yeast infection whenever I got glutened. I haven't had problems with it lately. I haven't been glutened much either.
  22. I agree with TH that it depends on how sensitive you are. For a typical celiac there shouldn't be any problem. For the first level of super sensitivity, the standard is to avoid the processed foods, but produce is safe. Those of us even more sensitive than that, should I say, super duper sensitive, there are more precautions to take as TH describes so...
  23. I think that's a gardening question. Mine don't get any bugs and I don't use chemicals.
  24. I totally understand. I got glutened constantly early on. I'd come here to vent and people would tell me that I couldn't possibly be reacting to the things that I was reacting to. Then I finally found out about super sensitive celiacs. Some of us react to things that others of us don't. It is a great idea to keep track of what you are eating and how...
