I seem to have the allergic to sugar thing too, except for honey and fruit sugar. I'm going to grow sugarcane in my garden this summer as well as sugar beets to see if it might be something happening in the processing. I kind of hope so, I have a sweet tooth which hasn't been much satisfied lately.

Since it was all things that you usually eat, which one was from a new container? CC can happen anywhere. Maybe there was something in with the cumin seeds since you usually eat those ground. Was there anything else from a new container?

I can't handle any, but am wondering which are the least contaminated for dd who is thankfully less sensitive.

				ARCHIVED Toddler Refusing Food. Help!
dilettantesteph replied to MommyB1234's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe it would help to let your son feel like he has some control over his diet. Maybe if you gave him some things to chose from. Ask him if he would like X or Y to eat. Or say have some veggie, which would you like, carrot sticks or creamed spinach for example. Maybe you can keep some finger foods in a little tray for him in the fridge so that he can... -

ARCHIVED Manager Bringing Gluten Free Cake
dilettantesteph replied to Melstar23's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thank people for being so considerate. Then I tell them that I am so sensitive, and I get so sick, that I only eat food which I prepare myself. -

ARCHIVED Convincing Family To Go Gluten Free And Cost
dilettantesteph replied to naiiad's topic in Super Sensitive People
To make it cost effective you need to rethink the way that you eat and go for a whole foods cook from scratch diet rather than using a lot of convenience foods. That is healthier and less expensive. You can cook up a batch of pancakes and then reheat for breakfast rather than frozen waffles, for instance. Instead of a cereal bar, eat a piece of fruit,... -
So true. The extra expense of eating gluten free is non existent if you eat whole foods. I haven't found safe peanuts yet either to make my own p.b. I think I'd rather just eat the peanuts anyway, if I can find some.

I don't eat peanut butter. It is processed. I can find very few processed foods which I can tolerate. I haven't found a pb yet.

ARCHIVED What Brand Of Gluten Free Flours Do You Buy?
dilettantesteph replied to salexander421's topic in Super Sensitive People
I grind my own. I mentioned my grinder in your other post. I started out just using an inexpensive coffee grinder until I was sure that would be something I wanted to do. It's way cheaper to grind your own than to buy flour. I get whole grain sorghum from Twin Valley mills. It's on the order form on their website. I used Lundberg rice, though I'm... -
That was about 3 years ago, but I think I tried wine, rice, coconut, apple cider, and some other vinegars. They all got me, but I fine with homemade wine, pear, raspberry or apple cider vinegar.

				ARCHIVED Favorite Flour Mill
dilettantesteph replied to etta694's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the Country Living grain mill. It is hand cranked so you save money on a motor. It only takes a few minutes to do a cup which is what I usually do, but sometimes I do several cups at a time too. It will do corn and beans as well as other grains. A lot of the other ones won't. When it came they had tested it with wheat and I had to send it back... -
I had problems with all vinegars. Even apple cider vinegar was a problem. I make my own vinegar now. It's very easy. I just take Woodchuck cider and leave it out with a wire screen over the top for a couple months. It gets naturally fermented. Regular vinegar has fermenting agents added to it and their source might be a bit cc'ed, only enough for us...

dilettantesteph replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Super Sensitive People
I am not sensitive to soy and I also react to coated oranges. I can eat them from a guy I know who doesn't put anything on them. Yum. It is nice to be able to eat oranges again. -

				ARCHIVED Acid Reflux
dilettantesteph replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also get acid reflux from glutening. What helped me was to include specific brands of what I was eating in my food diary. Certain brands cereals got me more than others. Some are more careful than others when it comes to cc. You'll get it sorted out. It just takes time. -

ARCHIVED Will The Dentist Make Us Sick?
dilettantesteph replied to paige350z's topic in Super Sensitive People
I got glutened the last two times I went to the dentist. My son the last time. I just went yesterday, but this time I phoned them first and they researched the issue. My hygenist found an article in their trade magazine which recommends using unflavored pastes. I am very sensitive. I don't think that the typical celiac has this issue. Open Original... -

				ARCHIVED @#%$!
dilettantesteph replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had to look at your post. Your title was unusual for someone with the username BeHappy!. When I am glutened, I occasionally can't make it to the bathroom myself. I have soiled my pants plenty, and that is when I am home not far from the bathroom. There is a reason they call it uncontrollable diarrhea. I also have problems with control of #1 when... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Runner In Training For Marathon
dilettantesteph replied to sydneysmommy's topic in Sports and Fitness
I read somewhere that exercise increases the permeability of the intestine. Sorry I didn't keep the reference. I trained for and did a mini marathon last summer. I found that training made me either have more symptoms, or notice the symptoms more. What worked for me was to decrease my gluten load more. I decreased the number of processed foods which... -
