  1. Boy, do I know about that! I remember some days just being able to repeatedly run around the block in case I had to run inside to use the bathroom. I found that exercise made me have to clean up my diet. It made symptoms more obvious. That wasn't fun, but it made me feel a lot healthier in the long run.
  2. Only a small percentage of celiacs react to oats. I'm one of them. Still, most recommend not trying them until you have healed because they are hard to digest with a damaged system. You also need to get special gluten free ones if you are at all sensitive to cross contamination. Chicken should be O.K., unless you are very sensitive to cc. You won't...
  3. All I've been doing recently is working in the garden plus an occasional bike ride or run. I've got to get back into a more rigorous routine again.
  4. This is old. I found a link to the full article. Open Original Shared Link It has this statement: ""The manufacturer claimed that their corn product was free from wheat or other cereals. We tested the product at the Swedish National Food Administration (Livsmedelsverket) and it was found to be contaminated with 82 μg/g (ppm), which is less than the ...
  5. I hope your doctor helps you to figure this all out. It is so hard to see your child sick. It seems very confusing.
  6. I've seen bike races where they are all so close together and it looks scary. My mini triathlon was much more tame. The only time there was anyone near me was when they were passing me! (Maybe I passed a bit myself too.) It wasn't scary at all. Cross training is good because when you can't do one thing due to injury or sore muscles or whatever, you...
  7. Chocolate!! I am very sensitive and haven't found one I can tolerate yet, though I can tolerate cocoa nibs, washed and roasted. It is just not the same.
  8. I forgot how much I had to pay the doctor who told me that extended breastfeeding would give me cancer, when it actually reduces the chances of getting cancer. You wouldn't pay someone to not fix you car, why do we have to pay doctors when they don't provide service. I don't know the answer.
  9. Those processed gluten free foods are very expensive. Why not buy whole grains which are more like $3 per pound or so and eat them? Buy in bulk. Buy big cuts of meat, cut them up yourself and freeze. Buy a bushel of apples from the farmers market. I'm pretty sure a whole foods diet is a lot cheaper than a processed gluten free foods diet, and healthier...
  10. Me too. I say I didn't know how sick I was until I got better. I think that you are right that you just try to get through your day. Also it made my mind not work very well. I don't think it occurred me to try to find a specialist. Plus, the problems I had run in my family. Surprise, so does celiac. My dad tested negative, but found enormous improvement...
  11. I wasn't able to heal until I cut out processed foods, especially those containing grains. Some of us are more sensitive to trace gluten than others. I am very sensitive. It is too soon after only two months to know. It still might help you to heal to eat a whole foods diet consisting of meat and produce. Then when you are feeling better you can try...
  12. I know my dad who is around 80 is poor comparison for a young child, but he experienced the same thing. He was pretty much symptom free. Now he really feels it if he gets glutened. I think that he had just gotten used to his symptoms after so many years. His glutening symptoms are also worse than what he was living with before. That goes for me too,...
  13. Life is good when you can be healthy. There are lots of people out there who don't appreciate how good they have it.
  14. Good for you. I did my first this last spring. I wanted to show myself what I could do after being so sick for so long. It felt great.
  15. I have thought about that too. I am very sensitive. I have such things lying around too, and I used to read at the table all the time. So far I haven't seemed to get glutened by that source. I don't read such things every day so I can keep track better than someone who does it every day. I have gotten glutened by cleaning our kitchen cupboards and the...
  16. Let me qualify this by saying that I am very sensitive. I have had problems with some produce. Last winter I was sick for some time before I could figure out that it was one kind of cherry tomato. I grabbed whatever they had, and when I started to pay attention, I found that one of the three I usually got made me sick. I don't know if it was due to coatings...
  17. Ecover dishwashing liquid with lemon and aloe vera has hydrolyzed wheat gluten as one of the ingredients. Open Original Shared Link Hope no one forgot to check ingredients. I used to use another scent, but decided that CC was a possibility and switched to a different brand.
  18. Yes!! You may have been one of the ones who did that and helped me to finally start to get well. I can't remember anymore who it was. This was almost 3 years ago when I first came on here and I was reacting to everything. People kept saying that they don't react and I must have some other problem. It was such a relief to finally realize what was going...
  19. Was it a certified gluten free buckwheat? If not, it could have been contaminated. I have reacted to all those things, but I am super sensitive. If you aren't super sensitive you should be good with Birkitt Mills buckwheat. Could lactose be a problem with butter? Lots of us are lactose intolerant until we heal. I can only do buckwheat if I wash it...
  20. Try eating only whole foods to avoid possible cc during processing.
  21. I agree with Ravenwoodglass. Cut out the oatmeal. When you have healed you can try it again to see if you can tolerate it. It gives me symptoms just like my reaction to gluten. Also the rice cakes until you have healed. Have cooked rice instead. Eat whole, unprocessed foods until you are feeling better and then you can try those packaged items again...
  22. Safe for some, not for others. I am a super sensitive celiac and can drink some wines without problems, and have glutening symptoms with others. I also get glutening symptoms from some distilled spirits. Is it possible to make them in a facility that doesn't also process...?? I'm glad your liver has improved.
  23. I agree, but probably only for sensitive celiacs. After all, some are completely asymptomatic. I did better after I got rid of my rinse agent.
  24. Once you have celiac, you always have celiac. It isn't outgrown. The tests look for response to gluten. If you aren't eating any gluten, they will be negative even if you have celiac disease. You can get a balanced diet without eating wheat. Wheat was developed relatively late in the evolution of man. We don't need it. You can eat other grains.
  25. Thanks for posting. It helps me to know that it really would not be a good idea to do this. It seems like it should be O.K. in theory. You didn't eat the stuff.
