Okay, here's a starting point: deficiencies in calcium, phosphorus, and B-12 can cause limb numbness or paresthesia. Perhaps the two of you should get tested for these deficiencies. Here's a good link for symptoms of nutritional deficiencies/toxicities: Open Original Shared Link

You're lucky--you've been handed back your life....and you can learn to live your new life in a new way or return to your former life. It's only been two months, so your life should get even better. Of course, you deserve to believe that you can be a different person now that your health is improving. If you continue to believe this and live your life... -
What you're describing is paresthesia...and sometimes it's caused by nutritional deficiencies. You might do a keyword search on this. I suffer from intermittent paresthesia, but it was caused by chemotherapy.

You may be experiencing what is called cross-reactivity. This occurs when a person goes gluten free, but his/her body immune system is still in overdrive. It begins mistaking other foods for gluten (oftentimes other grains), and the body responds with the same symptoms as though you had actually eaten gluten. This is discussed in the book "The Gluten Effect...

I've had similar symptoms; however, I was born with Ricketts (my mother had undiagnosed celiac, which we believe was triggered by an appendectomy when she was five months' pregnant with me), so bone pain is not a stranger to me. That said, since going gluten free, my bone pain has resolved. For me, especially after I drank beer, I would experience excruciating... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms After 5 Years Gluten Free
rosetapper23 replied to GFmom144's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does your daughter kiss anyone who eats gluten? Does she wear chapstick? Does she use a shampoo that has gluten? Does her brother eat gluten and then play with something that your daughter then plays with later? Does she play with Play Dough? Have you considered establishing a completely gluten-free household? Your daughter's health sounds very fragile... -
I'm afraid I don't trust stats. So few people with celiac have been diagnosed, I don't know how they could project the correct stats. The 1-in-22 stat has always made me laugh--my mother, grandmother, one uncle, one aunt, son, daughter, nephew, niece, and numerous cousins all have celiac. No way could this represent a 1-in-22 stat. In my family, it's...

I ALWAYS call the lab that manufactures the medication. You can initially check www.glutenfreedrugs.com...and if the medication isn't listed, then you can call the lab directly.

ARCHIVED Hello In San Francisco!
rosetapper23 replied to Ben Y.'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, Ben! I belong to a number of meetup.com gluten-free groups in the S.F. Bay Area. They oftentimes like to meet at gluten-free spots (like Pica Pica and Mariposa Bakery in Oakland) just to chat, socialize, and share information. Everyone I've met through meetup.com has been very nice, and I learn something new every time we meet. You might want... -

Okay, two other possibilities that I can think of....have you been tested for thyroid issues? Whenever I'm either hypothyroid or hyperthyroid, my joints become inflamed--every little joint in my body hurts, as well as the tendons. I end up with tendinitis in my hands, elbows, and feet. Anyway, this is just a thought, and your doctor can easily test for... -
I would like to add that alcohol can definitely cause digestive distress, and that isn't something that you need to have in your life right now. After initially going gluten free, I dropped my nightly habit for drinking wine so that my small intestine could begin healing. Also, vitamins such as folic acid, which celiacs can become deficient in, can be lowered...

ARCHIVED Any Other gluten-free British Looking For gluten-free British Food?

I can totally relate to your feelings. I visited my daughter in Australia last year and fell in love with all the yummy gluten-free products. It was so liberating to go to High Tea at the Queen Victoria Building and not be treated as someone "special." They have a gluten-free tea that is almost identical to the "regular" one, and it includes tarts, cookies... -
Tennisman, Where do you live? I think you need an intervention! If you're nearby, I'm willing to come by and discuss how to make your life happy...or at least bearable. Eating Gluten free can be wonderful! People who say gluten-free food is disgusting haven't eaten a great, home-cooked, gluten-free meal. Processed foods don't need to be eaten at all...

I so understand your frustration--when I didn't know what DH or celiac was, I suffered terribly from DH on my face and neck. I was so embarrassed about being seen in public, I shopped for groceries in the middle of the night at 24-hour grocery stores. Children used to point at me and say, "Mommy, what's wrong with that lady's face?" I was mortified! ...

I'd like to add to the conversation that your doctor should consider testing you for a thyroid condition. Brain fog from hypo/hyperthyroid can be terrible. -

Ummm....why would your cousin want you to stop taking BioSil? It's simply silicon. Does he not understand what silicon is? Sorry...I have to admit that I don't have much respect for doctors. **sigh** I was so hoping to hear that you were feeling better after taking the zinc, manganese, and silicon. -

You may be experiencing cross-reaction (which is alluded to above), and oftentimes it involves innocent gluten-free grains because they're similar in structure to gluten-containing grains. Cross-reactions happen when the body becomes confused and misidentifies a food as containing gluten....and then the body has the same reaction it would if it HAD eaten... -

Here's a site for BioSil so that you can see what it looks like: Open Original Shared Link For all of you out there with creaking joints and crunching necks, it may very well be that you're experiencing connective tissue problems. I swear--doctors have no clue what is wrong when connective tissues are involved. I hope you WILL try the BioSil, chelated... -

Wow...your symptoms sound just like the ones I had last year. After getting glutened at a potluck, I started having the similarly weird symptoms. My feet actually progressed to stress fractures. The best way I can describe the feeling in my feet is that it was like my bones were floating in bags of jelly--and the pain and instability were terrible. All... -

Yes, you should ask to be tested for Vitamin B-12 and Folic Acid deficiencies as well as Vitamin D. -
Yes, I realize that....but when you ADD spicy food on top of being glutened, the response can be much, much worse. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear. The bad response can be from spicy food with gluten in it or eating gluten and then spicy food that doesn't have gluten in it. It seems to be the combination that makes the outcome so much worse.

ARCHIVED Blood Tests And Symptoms
rosetapper23 replied to Matt M.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Matt, Yes, you should remain on gluten until you're tested....but then if your doctor suggests an endoscopy just to be sure, it's up to you whether or not you wish to continue to consume gluten until that test has been done. There are experts who feel that the bloodtests, along with symptoms, are all that is necessary to diagnose celiac since endoscopies... -

Irish Heart, I, too, react badly to soy, but I have no problems whatsoever with fermented soy. Most people who can't tolerate soy can, indeed, tolerate fermented soy. However, if you have an actual allergy, I don't know.... With regard to Curamin, I don't believe that taking curcumin will have the same effect (which is unfortunate, since Curamin is...
