ARCHIVED Thinking About Seeing A Psychologist..
Roda replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think that if talking to someone will help you then find someone. Try not to focus on what you could have done, instead focus on all the things you can do and will! I know from experience that it is easy to focus on all the negative my husband is right now. He is trying to deal with it. Surround yourself with positive people and experience new things... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Vulvodynia And Vaginal Issues
Roda replied to fiore's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My husband has post surgical pain from a vasectomy that resulted in a massive scrotal hematoma. They believe him to have nerve damage also. He takes Elvil (amitriptyline) and neurontin both. I don't think either dose is very high, but the neurontin does help. He had the flu recently and could not keep anything down. After, since he had not taken it while... -
I was not diagnosed celiac when I was pregnant. I didn't seem to have a problem until my second child was 14 months old. Anyway, I craved apples with the first successfull pregnancy and had a strong adversion to all seafood (which I love). My oldest is now 8 and I have just in the last year been able to tolerate tuna. Everything else I was ok with after...

ARCHIVED Trials For Celiac Vaccine Have Begun
Roda replied to amber's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My husband heard me listening to the news article and later asked me if it worked would I get it and eat what I used to. I told him that I would not go back to eating gluten even if I got a vaccine. If it is successfull, where I think it will be popular is with people that have celiac, but are in denial and don't want to change. I am thinking of my own... -
I guess I could try counseling without him. I don't know if he will come to that decision on his own or not. He knows about this specialist I found, so maybe someday he'll go. I would love for him to find some alternative therapy that will work besided medication. He has even mentioned that it would be nice to get rid of some. He refuses to take anything...

Welbutrin is out it is the same as zyban and it does not agree with him. I have offered to swim with him but he wants to find something he can do by himself. He keeps mentioning kyaking. Hope he can find his niche.

Yes I have told him how I feel. Things still do work, but unfortunately rather quickly. I think it is a mental thing that if he gets it over with quickly then he won't have to deal with any pain. His doctor told him the more he does things the less back pressure from epidimal congestion he would have. I have asked him if I am the problem and if he does...

The amytripyline was originally prescribed for the pain since his doctor said it has had some good results in cancer patients. It did have the added benefit at first to help his mood. But unfortunatly now it is not helping. I doubt he would even consider celiac testing and I don't think it is a problem anyway, but who knows. He has a strong family hx...

I really feel like I am alone. I don't have many friends and the few I do, don't really understand me. I feel very sad about the fact my husband and I don't have a quality intimate relationship anymore. It all started when my youngest son was six months old (he is now 4 1/2). My husband and I agreed we did not want any more children and together we decided...

ARCHIVED Very Low Vitamin D!
Roda replied to Rockgurl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I personally would follow through with taking the rx vitamin D. It has done miracles for me. I have been taking 50,000 iu rx per week since January of this year. Within about 3 weeks to a month I started feeling great. From what I can gather you have been taking roughly 700 iu a day of vit D. Thats not nearly enough depending how low your level was.... -
THANKS!! All of these sound good. It's nice to see a variety. I do have a question for Wonka... where can I find gluten free fish sauce and red chili paste? I have seen in some of the local grocery stores there is an asian section. Could I find these in a regular grocery store or somewhere else? I don't think there is an asian market close enough...

I love chicken salad and have been craving it lately. I have made it several ways and this weekend I mixed up a batch that I thought was my best yet. I did not measure anything just added in how much I wanted and the mayo until I got the desired consistency. -2 chicken breast halves -Mccormic original chicken seasoning(I think it's gluten...

I haven't tried the chebe bread mixes. I have heard they are good. I found a recipe for pao de queijo (brazillian cheese bread aka chebe) and have made it several times with great results. I have made them into the balls like the recipe said to do. They turn out crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. This is how they are suppose to be. I did...

ARCHIVED Variation?
Roda replied to estelita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can sympathize. I find it really easy to get into a rut. This is a great time of year. It should be strawberry season in PA in June. I love buying seasonal fruits and veggies from our local farmer's market and I also grow some things in my back yard. In the summer I could live on garden stuff. I also have been going early in the mornings to the grocery... -
I have never had an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) but I have assisted with x-rays during the procedure. Have you ever had an EGD? They sedate you like they do for the EGD and use and endoscope that goes down your throat into your stomach and into the first part of the small bowel the duodemum. There is an opening in the scope that...

I think as the person stated above the bin should be alright if it is not scratched. I did the same thing with mine. I'm curious why replace the microwave? Unless it is old or you just want a new one, in my opinion it should be fine with a good cleaning. I don't lay anything on the rack always on a plate or something.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza & Italian Restaurant In Knoxville Area!
Roda replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
COOL!! I'm only about 70 miles from Knoxville. I will be there in July for my son's doctor appointment. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info. -
Well I'm making my anual trip to my hometown in July. I have not been back home since going gluten free. I am originally from a small town (Tidioute) in Warren County Pennsylvania. While I am planning to take some esential items, I don't want to take the whole pantry. Does anyone in the Warren or surrounding area know of good places to shop for gluten...

ARCHIVED Looking For Celiac Dr. In Minneapolis Area
Roda replied to Sierra's Mommy's topic in Doctors
I can't help you with any doctors, but I do have a suggestion. Does your 6 1/2 yo see a specialist? Maybe they can recommend someone for you. -

ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency
Roda replied to diannalynn0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do understand that the D3 is a more bioavailable form of vitamin D. I have been taking the prescription which is classified I believe as the D2 ergocalciferol. I have been taking one 50,000 iu capsule a week since mid January. I just had my levels checked again in April. My levels went from around 17 to mid 40's. So yes for me it has worked. I am... -
ARCHIVED Tested Negative, Bad Reactions To Even Traces Of Gluten
Roda replied to GFkiwi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you still seem to be having problems you could have an EGD with biopsy done to check for celiac and other things. I agree with you that if you know if it makes you feel bad don't consume it regardless of what your celiac blood tests say. Hope you feel better soon. -
You have summed up how I feel in a nut shell. However, I have only been out to eat three times since October. I felt fine, but I don't get symptoms like many others. I have been glutened twice that I know of. The first time I ate at my friends house. She has another friend that is celiac and asked for advice. I'm not completley sure if all of the ingredients...

The thing I find funny is that as a small kid and teenager I would live in the woods and build stick forts and play in the creek. This was in the northwestern part of Pennsylvania and we had a 60 acre farm that was surrounded by the Allegheny National Forest. I never got it then and I would go trecking everywhere. Now I am in Eastern Tennessee and live...
