The presence of grumbs makes me grumble.. alot! -
ARCHIVED Too Much Time On My Hands...
chasbari replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Apparently not... if they did there would be more and better warnings about gluten everywhere and they would be sung to us in an amusingly moralizing tone.. Maybe the search would have to be for the golden gluten free ticket.. -
ARCHIVED Too Much Time On My Hands...
chasbari replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Whereas Glutenopolies is more descriptive and accurate I just love the sound of "glumpanies." It paints such a vivid picture in my mind... and makes me laugh as well. Go ahead.. say it out loud.. and if you are missing a tooth on your left side like I am because of celiac it sounds even funnier if you let your cheek flap whilst saying it... -
ARCHIVED Too Much Time On My Hands...
chasbari replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd be honored to be quoted in such a high minded way...(smirk) Use mine freely if you like. Glumercials...I like that one especially.. Having to sit through shows watching all those glumercials drives me, well... glutatonic. cs -

I will be grinning all day long.. love them all so far! -
I have been rather entertained by the presence of two words that have appeared lately here. The first is "Glutard" the second being "Glutoid." These amusing little labels got my over-active imagination off and running. What are some other possibilites for labeling those celiac aliens...? How about: Gludiots (gluten+idiots) for those who are not only...

ARCHIVED When Is Enough Enough?
chasbari replied to India's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I might end up being terribly non specific here but here goes. Going through various stages of recovery I eliminated almost all but a few foods. Got to feeling better over time. Amazingly so, in fact. But, still had this raging hunger and really had a difficult time sustaining energy throughout the day. Felt extraordinarily tied to home in order to be close... -
ARCHIVED Sub-Clinical Gluten Sensitivity? Or Hidden Celiac?
chasbari replied to xpaperbackwriterx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was lucky enough... after a lifetime of being told it was all in my head, to have gotten a doctor who was smart enough to listen to all the evidence in spite of a negative blood test and humble enough to press on for a proper diagnosis.. I would not count on that happening again though... even with the same doctor.. You know what is best for you and no... -
ARCHIVED Pruning The Ornamental Tree
chasbari replied to Wheatfreedude's topic in Sports and Fitness
Not only can you easily overtrain if you are healthy, it is doubly possible as your body is trying to heal a damaged gut. -
ARCHIVED Something New With Larabars? Possible Problems
chasbari replied to DaffodElle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like I said, it was probably not the adhesive but it did get me looking at the mechanics of how we interface with seemingly innocent things like packaging. I did eat more of the cashew bars without trouble. I could very well have been having a bad day in general and there was no cause and effect. That is what is so maddening about this. Trying to sort out... -
ARCHIVED Something New With Larabars? Possible Problems
chasbari replied to DaffodElle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK, so I finally broke down and tried them and am hooked. I did have a problem with the cashew ones and was panicking at first because I didn't want to give up my new found rescue food (at last, something I don't have to prepare!) I got to thinking, I open the package by pulling it open along the package seams thus exposing the adhesive they use to seal these... -
ARCHIVED Sick Of Doctors (Pun Intended)
chasbari replied to lavorama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doctor is the idiot. You at least have intolerance to lactose and glutens. Your positive response to a gluten free diet should be enough confirmation for you. Those D*mn doctors and their whole "avoid stress, it must be in your head, probably IBS" mentality are the ones who are truly living in the dark ages. You know what is best for you.. trust your... -
Yeah, the six pack came back in a hurry but I am struggling to add mass back.. keep losing more. What I wouldn't give to have a little reserve now.. Never thought I would be saying that...! Did test my strength on body weight exercises the other day. I do this to check against machine weight every once in a while for baseline strength to weight ratio reference...

ARCHIVED 'Toxic trio' triggers gut disease
chasbari replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well, that seems like a whole lot of nothing. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative But Diet Is Chaning Everything!
chasbari replied to IngridBeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I tested negative and my endo was brutally positive. I would suggest you read up on various diet approaches here including the SCD and paleo. Elimination and rotation as well. Start with a bare bones safe diet of a limited number of foods you know you don't have any issues with. Make sure you get a D/calcium/magnesium supplement (and make sure it is gluten... -
Once I got rid of gluten the next trigger for me was soy and it created reactions worse than glutening. I would agree with those observations thus far. Of course, I am no expert with anything else you are dealing with as I left the childbearing up to my wife. Congratulations!

Does Mazola contain soy? I know that when I first went gluten-free I had as bad if not a worse reaction to soy. More painful than glutening once the diet got cleaned up. Turns out it is hidden in many things as well. Tuna, Mayo, margarine, cooking oils. I eat a dozen eggs a day most times and only use EVOO or pop one in the micro for 42 seconds using nothing...

ARCHIVED Share Your Favorite Cold Meals
chasbari replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Haven't read all the responses yet but make sure the canned tuna isn't processed using soy broth as so much of it is. Anyone have a lead on tuna that is soy free, I would love to know what brands. CS -
Happy Birthday to you! Strength for the journey friend. So much of your journey sounds so familiar and your determination to survive is inspiring. You gave us all a gift by sharing today. Thanks!

ARCHIVED Rant On What Gluten Free Really Means...
chasbari replied to NorthernElf's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Trending... I bet. And all those "well meaning" entrepreneurs who are selling gluten free whole grain sprouted breads and spelt breads and other supposedly gluten free products ... it's a buzz word for the uninitiated. The aisles filled with boxes labeled as gluten free crammed right there next to the whole grain "health foods" in the local supermarket just... -
ARCHIVED How Much B12? --Low Energy
chasbari replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found Solgar sublingual yeast/gluten dairy free methycobalamin last week. Decided to give it a try.. I went steadily downhill in the five days I took it and think it is the mannitol used in it. It has made the inside of my mouth raw like I am on the verge of chancre sores. Tom's toothpaste with sorbitol messed me up as well several months ago. I went to... -
ARCHIVED I Cannot Take It Anymore!
chasbari replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No better place than here to vent. Many here understand this to some degree. I could cut and paste a lot of what you just wrote. So hard to come up with the energy to be constantly preparing food when lack of food has made me so tired I can barely stand.. always try to prep enough in advance.. it's never enough. The loneliness is just as real when you are... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Better By The Day
chasbari replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So good to hear that all is going well in light of what you've been through. Glad to hear you are feeling better. That's priceless. -
If the mayo has soy in it that may also be a problem. I know I react to soy as violently as I do to gluten. If you eat soy products regularly then disregard this suggestion. Plenty of other opportunities already mentioned by the gluten sleuths for CC.

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Weight Loss
chasbari replied to mrsvicky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Lost scary weight very fast when I went gluten-free and then even more drastic when I went paleo.. the thing is the weight loss was body fat as I was gaining considerable strength back during that time. I lost 40 pounds in the first three months or so and most felt I didn't have any margin for weight loss in the first place. I knew differently though. I have...
