  1. I seem to have a somewhat late reaction to it as well. I take it 2 - 2.5 hours before bedtime.
  2. As the topic says, I recently just started Valerian Root because I read here it is very helpful for people with insomnia: Open Original Shared Link Anyway, it seems to be working for me. I have used it the past two nights with excellent results. It also seems much safer than melatonin, which is actually a hormone. Just thought I would spread the word...
  3. I'm the same way. I still cannot seem to false asleep until my body literally shuts down and tells me "You're going to fall asleep, find a bed." It has gotten slightly better, I recently just started eating a lot more gluten-free whole grains and I think that will help calm and relax me. I also just removed brown rice from my diet which for some strange...
  4. Have you eliminated dairy? Are you taking any supplements like probiotics? My guess would be another food is causing you issues but you said you did the elimination diet correct?
  5. I'm the same way, although it used to be a lot worse. I usually do not wake up in the middle of the night anymore, I just have trouble falling sleep. How long have you been gluten free for?
  6. I posted this as a response in another topic but thought it was important enough that it deserved its own topic. Basically one study found that we have something called a food clock where if you do not get enough calories throughout the day, your body will not let you go to sleep. Your body thinks there is a food shortage and essentially tells you that before...
  7. If you can afford it, get Threelac. It is a very potent probiotic that always speeds up recovery time for me. Rest and enzymes are key too.
  8. What Ravenwood said. You really have to be your own advocate when it comes to Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Try the diet for at least a month and see if you notice a difference, most do.
  9. I tested negative four, count 'em four times for Celiac: all negative. I had one blood test, one Celiac blood panel, genetic testing, and an endoscopy with biopsy. This was all during the time I was consuming wheat, though not very much of it. I totally went through the exact same thing you did. Eventually I just learned to let it go and I think that's exactly...
  10. I disagree, I NEED the calories. Without them my total caloric intake would only be around 1100, which is way too low for someone who is my age (19) and active, and exercising almost every other day. I have tried reading before bed, I lay there with my stomach telling me to go eat something. The problem with eating healthy all the time is that the foods...
  11. I really think I DO need the calories too. Unfortunately I'm in college and it's a little hard to reach that 1400 calorie minimum without popping a donut or two. But other than that I think I pretty healthy, especially for a college student. Nuts ARE actually my main source of fat even though I do not seem to be fully absorbing them. I definitely get enough...
  12. Thanks everyone for the responses. Last night while I was unable to sleep my theory was confirmed. According to a Harvard study: Scientists have long known that our circadian rhythm is regulated by our exposure to light. Now they have found a second "food clock" that takes over when we are hungry. This mechanism probably evolved to make sure starving...
  13. I hate to say this but I think this is just something you might have to put up with. I just did a quick google search of quitting smoking side effects and guess what was one of them: Quit smoking symptom #6 Dizziness: When you quit smoking, your body starts fixing the red blood cells that have been handicapped with carbon monoxide. After a couple of days...
  14. I feel the same way! I think for the most part my extreme hunger has gone away. But if I try to rely on my hunger signals I'll go way too long without eating. I have to just try and eat at regular intervals too.
  15. I think this article will answer all your questions --> Open Original Shared Link
  16. YES! I had severe GERD for about 3 months before I realized it was gluten. Of course everyone is different, but I believe a lot of people's main complaint at first is indigestion or heartburn. So it very well could be Celiac. But even if you do test negative, I urge you to try a gluten free diet for a couple of weeks anyway. I actually tested negative...
  17. It could very well be any of the previously mentioned things, but how well do you handle dairy? Because don't forget there is almost always some kind of cheese or cream in Caesar dressings.
  18. Imo Celiac and Gluten Intolerance are virtually the exact the same thing. The only difference of course is what you already mentioned, the damage to the small intestine. Each person is different, but in general I would say the symptoms are virtually the same. I believe that both do have intestinal inflammation as a symptom. I tested negative for Celiac numerous...
  19. I'm sorry your wording is a little confusing to me. What exactly are you asking?
  20. I'm sorry to hear that. But I think I might be able to be of some help. I remember my mom telling me that when her dad died her stomach was so upset she could not eat. She said peppermint tea helped a ton. It is my understanding that there are certain compounds in peppermint that calm, sooth, and relax the bowels. And if you do not want to drink tea you...
  21. "Casein has a molecular structure that is quite similar to that of gluten. Thus, some gluten-free diets are combined with casein-free diets and referred to as a gluten-free, casein-free diet. Casein is often listed as sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate or milk protein. These are often found in energy bars, drinks as well as packaged goods. A small fraction...
  22. While it has yet to be proven, I have read many articles that claim that a vitamin deficiency can cause insomnia. Here is just one of those: Open Original Shared Link I have also read that Vitamin D deficiency can cause insomnia as well. I mean, it makes sense. Most of us have been vitamin deficient for the majority of our lives. Maybe it's just...
  23. I was off dairy completely for a year and recently just started to reintroduce casein, but no lactose. And even when I was off dairy I still had the same issues, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. And that's weird that you say that, they always say milk can help you fall asleep. I always eat whole, fresh fruits, never canned or bottled....
  24. Whole Foods Gluten-free Granola with Certified Gluten free Oats = Delicious
  25. When I went gluten-free at first I was tired all the time, I slept so much and yet at the same time, I felt sooo good. It will take a while for you to get your energy levels back to normal, so you're not alone there. I would say my energy levels now are almost back to normal and I have been gluten free for almost ten months. Frequent urination...
