ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Coeliac ? Perth Au
weluvgators replied to livliv78's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi! We live in Perth. Let me know if you have any specific questions. The Coeliac society was very friendly and helpful when we first moved here, and they have a lot of great resources. We have similar celiac diagnostic issues and are happy with how we have progressed. We certainly had more than our fair share of trials and continued searching for a... -
ARCHIVED Ultrainflamx Plus 360 - Metagenics
weluvgators replied to Celiacandme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used it for several months under doctor supervision. I found that I craved it in a strange way. My doctor theorized that the craving could be from getting nutrition during a healing process. After about 4 months use I got sick (no idea if it was related to using it or some random illness that no one else in family had) and stopped using it. I still...- 3 replies

My friend asked about giving some Lumi Dough to my kids. I looked at information online and found this: What is LUMI DOUGHâ„¢ made of? LUMI DOUGHâ„¢ is made of silicone a material used in producing various safe and sanitary products such as baby bottles, toys, cookware, and medical products. The material is non-toxic, heat-resistant and non-allergic, so ...

ARCHIVED Is Vomiting A Symptom After Being Glutened?
weluvgators replied to Cara in Boston's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, vomiting has been a gluten exposure symptom for two of my kids. I know of another mom whose son also has vomiting as a symptom of gluten exposure as well. -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
weluvgators replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi. We are in Perth, but sadly don't have much in the way of restaurant recommendations. Grocery stores can close early around here, so keep that in mind in your planning. There are restaurants that can accommodate, and we have stumbled across them. But more often than not, we tend to go to the shops for food we prepare. Restaurants that have worked... -
ARCHIVED Something Is Not Quite Right.
weluvgators replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You may want to review school again as well. We do not allow gluten based baking activities to occur in our children's classrooms. Flour in particular is very contaminating to a space. We do not allow any gluten in their classrooms, but our kids are very sensitive. You may want to also survey art supplies and toiletry products(these at home too) as well... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Celiac And A Wheat Allergy?
weluvgators replied to amandalesswheat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello! Myself and my three children have celiac and wheat allergy. Lucky you found a doctor that could recognize the overlap! There are good and bad things about having them both, and each of the individuals in my family has differing reactions to exposure. Getting organized with Allergy Action plans has proven invaluable in communicating our needs to... -
ARCHIVED Tummy Aches And Diarrhea Help, It Can't Be Gluten
weluvgators replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would review any changes in routine that happened a couple of weeks ago. Are there any new products, like soap, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, etc. in addition to foods. Also routines of other family members that could introduce contamination. My initial focus would be gluten review since her symptoms are typical of celiac reactions. Is she going to... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Please
weluvgators replied to MommyOfTwinkies<3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like you are doing very well making the transition. As for shared facilities, toasters, cutting boards, colanders, slotted spoons and spatulas are items that we make sure are truly dedicated. We are also careful with knives and keep dedicated ones for shared facilities. Our family is gluten free at home, and there are many naturally gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Cleaning Hands Before Glutening...
weluvgators replied to africanqueen99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my kids were younger and when we travel we keep water and soap in the car for handwashing. The water jugs with spouts work well to setup a handwashing station. -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Cautious?
weluvgators replied to Mayasmum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your current protocols seem reasonable to me if it is working well for everyone. How does your daughter feel about it? One problem that we had with our children sitting next to others is that new children each year would not understand the care that they needed to take when sitting next to my daughter. And while my kids are reasonable advocates for themselves... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Cautious?
weluvgators replied to Mayasmum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I encourage you to trial with her sitting with the others with minimal isolation. If those trials don't work, then you can move on to more rigid protocols. That being said, our children were unable to make it work long term at our school in America. However, they do fine with shared eating here in Australia. I could go into the many subtle differences... -
ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
weluvgators replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I take my celiac disease seriously. I also take my children's celiac disease seriously. And I was incredibly disappointed to see "hidden gluten" lumped into a statement about "nonsense" like "cures". There are reputable researchers and reports detailing that celiacs respond to varying levels of gluten. And some celiacs have to go further than others... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Screaming At Food, Please Help Us!
weluvgators replied to feex1982x's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We got a body poster (kid type - labels for the different body parts) to help us better understand our children communicating pain. Sometimes it was easier for them to point to the body chart in their efforts to explain their pain to us. Good luck getting it sorted. -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old Screaming At Food, Please Help Us!
weluvgators replied to feex1982x's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Big hugs, mom! You may want to try using sign language. We found it very helpful for one of our children that was a very late talker. And my most classic celiac child has been distressed for a long time, and I think a lot of it is related to chronic belly pain. It can be very difficult to manage, and your child may have some chronic pain issues made worse... -
ARCHIVED I Am Puzzled, My Girl Is In Troubles And I Don't Know What To Do!
weluvgators replied to jepacar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hope your daughter has had some improvement. I am interested in which technology they used to see the blockage. Have you looked at Epsom salt baths? Those may help some. Best wishes for getting the blockage moving and out. -
ARCHIVED Is This Far-Fetched? Breastfeeding Question
weluvgators replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry to hear that you have not seen improvement yet. I do not doubt that airborne exposure could be the root cause. But have you also studied your daughters situation while you are at work? Where is she staying? What is she eating? Who is preparing her food? Is she doing anything different on that day that could be contributing? -
ARCHIVED I Am Puzzled, My Girl Is In Troubles And I Don't Know What To Do!
weluvgators replied to jepacar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have they looked for intestinal blockage? My understanding is that if a blockage develops that diarrhea may be the only way that things can keep moving around the blockage. I assume that an x-ray and/or ultrasound would help with that type of analysis, but I don't have experience or references for the issue. I hope you can figure it out soon. I agree... -
All of the symptoms you describe could be allergic reactions, or a combination of your body's allergic and celiac response. To help identify allergies, a person generally visits an allergist to help determine 1) likely/ probable allergens and testing methods to be used to refine known allergens identification and 2) action plan to be used in event of allergic...

ARCHIVED Safety At Preschool - Need Ideas
weluvgators replied to greenbeanie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have handled play-doh differently for different situations. For situations like you describe we insist on gluten free doughs to be used for the entire class. In the States we provided the dough and tools for the classrooms. In Australia they make gluten free dough with gluten free flours for our children's classrooms and out of school hours care facility... -
ARCHIVED Is This Far-Fetched? Breastfeeding Question
weluvgators replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Are you decontaminating yourself when you get home from the bakery? We have had issues with carers that worked in flour environments, as it seemed they would introduce gluten into our home via their hair and clothes. I would strip out of work clothes and wash hair and body in a procedure to reduce the potential of exposure as much as possible. I think... -
It is possible to react to airborne gluten, even outside of airborne flour. That is not a typical reaction, but it is possible. Those airborne type reactions are generally considered to be on the allergy side of the gluten hypersensitivity spectrum. There are heaps of things going on in the church setting and at work. Our family had to tackle these types...

ARCHIVED At The End Of My Rope.
weluvgators replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had to make a list of things that help me cope and try to do some of them every day. It also helps to have a list of things that help my daughter cope. The best ones are when the same thing is on both lists! Here are some of our coping tools: -making herbal teas, we like peppermint, chamomile and licorice root -going outside for walks and swings ... -

((Big Hugs!!) My super silly siren girl was exhausting!! She still can be, in a different sense, but those young years were very hard for all of us, especially her. I would get her in for the blood tests ASAP. Do some reading and decide if you are interested in pursuing a biopsy or not. The best chance of "positive" blood work is eating gluten, so give... -
ARCHIVED Australian Celiacs Face Industry Push To Allow Gluten In 'gluten-Free' Foods - Celiac.com
weluvgators replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Interestingly, the information that I see in Australia conveys it is a consumer push to a large degree. Having lived in Australia for 18 months has been life changing for our family. With Coeliac, wheat/gluten allergy and gluten hypersensitivity, the "no detectable limit" has been invaluable for us. We live so comparatively "normal" now! The community...
