  1. Yes. Last year - year 4 for my family on the diet was awful. I have had varying thoughts on how to go about giving up, but they have passed. I have done a lot of work in the last year to improve our situation to help avert those despairing thoughts and situations. Gluten free living can certainly add significant struggles to our daily lives, but we have...
  2. Hi, Asharia! Welcome to the board. I see that you are trying to figure out your elevated antibody issues that have resurfaced and that you are seeking input from those that consider themselves super sensitive. With my disclaimer that our family is super sensitive, we have found that we needed to eliminate most of our canned goods. I have had "gluten...
  3. I have only researched this for others, so not very well. But here are some links if you want to read more: https://www.celiac.com/articles/116/1/Epilepsy-and-Celiac-Disease/Page1.html Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link That was what I found with a quick Google search. Hope it helps! I never considered it that unusual...
  4. I know of three people in my small community that get seizures from gluten. One is a classic celiac diagnosis - she was sent by her neurologist to a disbelieving GI who was shocked to find that she was "the worst case" he had ever seen! She had been suffering from idiopathic seizures until they figured out the celiac disease. That was quite a struggle...
  5. Our second child was born a high needs, fussy child. Her first bite of gluten at 8 months was disconcerting, and she only had one bite - it was an obvious reaction of immediate breakout in an intense itch (that became angry) and fuss. We trialed other forms of gluten only a few times, as the results were terrible. By one year of age she had developed some...
  6. That is so funny - thanks for the great, funny post this morning . . . hope you meant it to be so funny. Too bad the reality is not so funny . . . . I couldn't find a ROFL emo!
  7. Both (for us)! It is hard to guess how sensitive your DD may be with contact exposure. I also don't understand super sensitivity very well, but we seem to be on that end of the spectrum. I don't know if our kids' obvious reactions from early on is simply an indicator of our personal genetic expression or if it can be generalized to all early responders...
  8. We had something similar happen. Our DD has an epi for wheat due to past reactions. We finally got in with a ped gi who had demonstrated for another patient that she thoroughly understands what protections a celiac needs when it comes to environmental exposures at school, and she further demonstrated a solid understanding of celiac issues in our appointment...
  9. I am sorry to hear of this happening to your child, and I hope that it goes well for him. My children have been prescribed a gluten free classroom because they could not tolerate being in the classroom with the entire class eating gluten food (they had horrid skin reactions from the exposures, but they did take a few weeks to start surfacing). I would be...
  10. I have similar leakage and itching issues that I can control through a very strict gluten free diet. I agree with steph about evaluating your testing options. Since I have had children, I have had doctors tell me that the bladder leakage was "normal". It really bothers me that they think it is "normal", but I sure am happy that I have been able to eliminate...
  11. This can be incredibly problematic. As a celiac mother of three celiac kids, that is ALOT of food prep! SOMEBODY has to process the food that we eat, even if it is just washing it. Usually some additional form of processing is desireable for a fair chunk of it too, even if it is just cutting, dicing, grating it. And if you are a family with two working...
  12. There was more to their FAQ about gluten free, and here it is:

  14. I don't think that you are overthinking it at all. This diagnosis has caused our family to really think hard about everything we put in our mouth. I appreciate hearing your suspicions about the Kroger brand, as it is one of our main grocery stores. Unfortunately, I have not eaten the things that you mention. I think I ate the Kroger ground beef once,...
  15. I found a really interesting allergy book at my library, Reader's Digest Food Allergy Bible, if I recall the title correctly. I was reading the hives section in it because one of my kids has hiving tendencies. They had a suggestion in there that h.pylori should be investigated in chronic hive situations. I had never heard of that before, no doctor had...
  16. OK, went back to do a bit more research for the rum that I mentioned above, Mount Gay. Um, not looking so good, especially in light of the solvent thoughts . . . From their website: "Moka This subtle note graces all Mount Gay rums due to very special ageing in Kentucky white oak barrels that previously contained bourbon. The result is a perfect...
  17. Fondant seems like a cool idea. We use the gluten free dough from Discount School Supply, and it was well liked at the school when I sent it in for my girls' classes. We have all gluten free dough tools as well. I did look at a few gluten free doughs in the beginning, mainly because I wanted to figure out if any of them would test negative for gluten...
  18. I have drunk Mount Gay rum, and I like it. I have been too timid to try any other ones, and just haven't been drinking rum lately. But it is the one my husband keeps in the house, and all the times that I have drunk it have been fine. I appreciate hearing which ones you can drink, as I have had trouble finding the Mount Gay sometimes when we travel.
  19. Hello! I am packing lunches for a couple of kids every day. They both prefer warm lunches, and neither has access to a microwave. In the mornings, I heat their lunches on the stovetop and pack them in a thermos. They also like to take nut milks for lunch, usually packed in a small mason jar (we put the jar in a bag in case of leaking - my kids are little...
  20. Welcome to the board, happygfmom! My 8 yo has been gluten free for 5 years now, living in a gluten-free home the entire time, intiated by her super sensitive younger sister. So, we don't have the same issues that you have faced. It is so hard navigating gluten free living sometimes! While involving her in the food choices and baking and prep are great...
  21. Our experience is similar to what T.H. describes. We had eliminated all processed foods, did meticulous research on the whole foods that we continued to consume, and finally we eliminated spices that were not fresh, whole and washable. It is a lot of work, but the results have been tremendous for us - much better than the "making do" that we were living...
  22. Interesting post! Chex was a suspect (two "gluten free" foods were eaten together, so it may have been one of them, both of them or the combination) in a very bad reaction that one of my children had after eating it for 3-4 days in a row, and it was most evident when she started losing her balance and stuttering up a storm! It then proceeded to severe,...
  23. I just wanted to share that we are a family that is "too risky" to challenge. It sounds like you may have a doctor(s) that would agree with that for your child as well. For consolation, I was assured by a world leading expert that by keeping our kids gluten free so early in life that we may achieve a "prevention" of sorts for a celiac diagnosis in the event...
  24. Our family had it a bit easier because it was a very young child that had obvious issues that we were changing our household and lifestyle for . . . somehow that made it "easier" for me. But I am SO GRATEFUL that we followed her lead. We have implemented many of the same things as T.H. - she summarized it up so well! We are positive gene-wise. But serum...
  25. OK, I am trying to figure this out, and it seems so complicated sometimes. I picked up a pack of mentos yesterday at Hobby Lobby in Kentucky, USA. The ingredients listed "glucose syrup" with no declaration of source. There was no indication at all of "WHEAT" or any other allergen on the label. How does one know the source of the glucose syrup on this...
