ARCHIVED gluten-free Since March - Went From 124Lbs To 140 Lbs...ugh
Salax replied to ruthie-ray's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second the Thyroid checking. I have Hashimoto's.....thyroid isues/disease and celiac disease seem to a quite a common pair. -
ARCHIVED The New Celiac Drug Is Out There
Salax replied to gatita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While the article is entertaining to read.....(not sure I buy the legitamacy of it) it would be interesting in theory, but then many Celiac's would need to take something like this long term in order to see what the affects of the drugs are doing. And that I would gather would be dangerous for them and probably bad. Then, I don't believe this is the right... -
ARCHIVED Panic Time After A Long Time Of Not Hanging Around Here.
Salax replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I eat their hot dogs quite often, never had an issue. My concern with their dogs is that they say "best within 4 days of opening" doesn't mean they expired per say but maybe your GI tract is so sensitive it had a reaction to that OR just the fact you put something in your tummy that might have been to "rich" for your system since you normally stay away from... -
ARCHIVED Super Nervous! First Family Gathering Since Diagnoses!
Salax replied to eblue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would bring my own food. Even after 4 years being gluten-free (plus corn and cow milk products now) I will always bring my own food to a function, no one (even with the best of intentions) is going to prepare and make your food as safe as you will. And since your so new to this, personally, I think it would be better to be firm with your food needs now... -
ARCHIVED I Don't Know What To Do Anymore!
Salax replied to lovechild's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would stick to a Paelo diet for a month and then slowly reintroduce items back in. Thats how I discoved I am intolerant to corn and cow milk products. Basically eat meat, fruit and veggies, no grains..except quinoa (maybe), I would cut all grains, but if your bored with food that might be ok. And no white potatoes. Only sweet potatoes/yams. I hope you... -
ARCHIVED Have You Been Told It Is All In Your Head?
Salax replied to lovechild's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Agreed. And to add to that my natural doc was telling me that most of our serotonin is produced in our gut. So if we have things like chronic D or chronic vomitting we lose not only good bacteria but serotonin which is a one of our mood stabilizers. So it would make sense that people with unhappy guts could be sad/depressed people, but generally it's... -
ARCHIVED Got Results On My 3 Year Old
Salax replied to justa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Interesting. And frustrating to you I am sure. It's been said time and time again around here... "it's celiac or it isn't, it's like either your pregnant or your not, you can't be sort of pregnant....just like you can't be sort of celiac" I am guessing he knows this but why his hesitation? I would do what Karen recommends and start there, perhaps additional... -
ARCHIVED Red Apple Lipstick
Salax replied to GlutenStinks15's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am a RAL addict as well. Love the company and the products. I use the lipstick and the eyeshadow. The eyeshadow is amazing. You can do wet or dry, so it has that capability and it lasts. Creamy and smooth and so pretty on the eyes. I will say one I got looked lighter on the web than in person, but it's still amazing. I can't wait until they make more products... -
I can see where you are coming from here. At least with change and adaptations. Awareness is up, but change or the willingness to change is, well.....slow to put it mildly. But I do believe we are incharge of our own destiny. It has been said, "be the change you want to see in the world" so It's up to us as individuals to make the change happen, all we can...

ARCHIVED "mild" Celiac
Salax replied to kfrankiii's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doc told me I had "mild" celiac and to go gluten "light" LMAO....right. Been gluten free for a while now, didn't do the "light" thing...so I dunno why they say mild, light, sorta...in my mind either you have it or not. And really going gluten-free is the only way to see if it actually helps if they tell you that you don't have it. I happened to have... -
I still think the best breakfast is at home. I make some mean hashbrowns and also it's much safer. When needing to eat the morning on the go I always carry something in my purse or I swing by the market for fruit (apple, banana, etc) It's hard not going out to breakfast but it's so much safer. But if your going to do it anyways. Don't get eggs in an omlet...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed- Dealing With Rude Comments
Salax replied to eblue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My sister-in-law said to me multiple times "I'd rather die than eat like you." (which I am gluten, corn and dairy (cow's milk) free). So I said, well thats pretty much what would happen if you did eat gluten with celiac...alot faster and a hell of alot more painful. Me, personally, food isn't a want/craving/desire. It's fuel, if you put bad fuel in your car... -
ARCHIVED Hair Spray With Wheat Starch - Possible To Get Glutened?
Salax replied to Salax's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks all. Its sure something. I guess I will put my CSI hat on and continue the search. I wish I could get her to change her hair spray, but I doubt it will ever happen Plus now because of this (cause I told her I think it might be glutening me) she isn't going to ask me to dye it anymore, which is fine. But she's still spraying in the the dang house every... -
ARCHIVED Hair Spray With Wheat Starch - Possible To Get Glutened?
Salax replied to Salax's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nope I wore gloves and washed my hands. I don't know if dry hairspray would float, but if it's attached to the hair folical and combed out, like anything else it would detach and have to go somewhere. falling up or down (like lint or something would?) I imagine. Like I said I feel like a crazy person, but something had to do it imho. -
ARCHIVED Hair Spray With Wheat Starch - Possible To Get Glutened?
Salax posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Odd Question Does anyone have experience with a person in their home using hair spray with Wheat Starch? The reason I am asking this is because my mother (whom I would deny nothing, yet I think is the cause of my current issue) uses a hair spary with wheat starch in it and I dye her hair every month for her. And today I feel like I have been glutened. I... -
One of my major symptoms when I get glutened is dizziness. What I find that helps is Dramamine. It's gluten-free and it helps alot.

ARCHIVED What Gluten Tastes Like After Three Years...
Salax replied to amberlink09's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Amber, have they ever tested you for Crohns disease? With the inflammation in the small intestines (which is usually the generalized area of Crohns, although it can affect the entire digestive system) with the anemia and some of the other stuff you mentioned it almost sounds like it could be an IBD rather than something else. Are you also suffering frequent... -
ARCHIVED Help! Not Sure What This Is, But Trying To Figure It Out...
Salax replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Understandable. So maybe see if they put seasoning on it while it's cooking and ask them not too and see what happens? Hopefully that will solve it. -
ARCHIVED Help! Not Sure What This Is, But Trying To Figure It Out...
Salax replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My first thought was a possibility of MSG as well. I wonder if you could get them to put no seasoning on it if it would help? Or even call the corporate office and ask if they use MSG? Or like someone else said, don't eat there LOL. -
ARCHIVED Most Gluten-Free-Friendly City
Salax replied to kdonov2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I live in Vegas and although we have alot of places to eat, the doctors here suck. I traveled to Seattle last summer and they have alot of gluten free places there as well...I wanna move there myself...maybe one day. -
Hi Monkeyface! Welcome to the boards. We are prolly going to need more information than what you have given. Can you tell us what your eating? Are you still eating gluten in other forms? What brand of gluten-free bread are you eating? Have you seen a doctor? Any tests done? Any other information might be helpful. What your experiencing in the bathroom...

ARCHIVED Product Warning - Marked Gluten Free

Did anyone call Tyson to inquire about that product? Just curious if they would "share" what would be in the stock or what could have set you off. Feel better
