  1. Done that since I was a child also with waffles and french toast....gluten free of course.
  2. Good question and yes it would appear everyone's symptoms are different. Mine are not skin reactions but are close to the same reaction when glutened although more mild. Stomach cramps/pain, nausea, sick feeling, weak, lightheaded/dizzy and overall icky. When I don't eat them I am doing good, but as soon as I eat them symptoms are back. Try taking them...
  3. Hi Guys, As I have recently been diagnosed with colitis and I have been gluten-free for over 3 years, I am readjusting my diet for the colitis and I seem to see a connection with nightshades. I am wondering what your reactions are as my seem like a mild "glutening" after tomatoes, potatoes or eggplant. I eat it the night before and wake up sick...
  4. I also like Greens (blonde, I think), I am not really a drinker though but if I want one it's there. It's also great to make gluten free beer battered fish or shrimp.
  5. Sounds like you need to cut it out of your diet for right now regardless. Once you start to heal you might be able to re-introduce it back in. But many of us have to give it awhile before we do. I personally had to wait 6 months before trying it and now after that even I still have on and off issues especially due to colitis (so my doctor says)Going off of...
  6. I heard that about soy milk. But never almond milk. That would be interesting to research more on that. As far as soy, there a bunch of interesting things to read about: Open Original Shared Link (there are other sources out there as well) If you can find anything about the almond milk please let us know.

    ARCHIVED Colitis

Hi All, Been awhile since I posted. Life and all. Anyways been having some new issues. (anemia (need infusions for iron), weight loss, constant pain in the upper abdomen that radiates into my back, D and sometimes C.) Anyways, doctor tried to pull the IBS card. LMAO and I said no, we aren't playing that anymore....so then he recommended a celiac...
  8. I think, from personal experience...it has alot to do with positive energy and not letting you stress yourself out. Try not to worry about it. I know, I mean I really know how hard it is, but worrying about something that may or may not happen isn't a productive way to use your energy or emotions. Try to think that everything is ok, positive energy...
  9. Moving back to topic. Love you guys! Any ways, I just recently bought these and tried them the first time, they were pretty tasty. I did not see the cya statement or facility statement yet on them. BUT I was thinking, this company had basically declared gluten free status on some of their products, so that leads me to believe they are aware of cc...
  10. I agree with this, but also remove dairy as you remove gluten. That would be my first step. Then if he appears do be doing good, try adding dairy back in at a later date. I know it's easier with "firm" diagnosis, but life isn't full of absolutes....so do what you can now as a mother.
  11. My appologies as well, I thought it was the original Diet Pepsi as well. Weird that soda should have it, but then again other "weird" things have gluten and we all know how frustrating that can be. I hope you feel better.
  12. Never heard of diet pepsi having malt barley??
  13. What I can't understand is the doctor's telling people the that "the diet is so hard". Really? Thats your cop-out. But then I forget, if they can't cover up the symptoms with pills, it just doesn't work for them. Anyways, at least we can decide what food we can or can't eat on our own.
  14. Ginger Ale is helpful. Mucinex helps with mucus, dramamine helps with dizziness and brain fog. Couple advils or tyenols for body aches, benadryl for itchies. But I wouldn't take all of that at once. Decide which is the worst, start there. With time it will pass, it sucks, but it won't last forever. I hope you feel better.
  15. It is a struggle isn't it? But "anything worth doing, is worth doing right." I get "freak outs" as I call them when going out to eat still even after 2 years gluten free and I probably will forever. BUT the one thing my hubby tells me is that if, IF I get glutened, it will pass. Yes it sucks and it's horrible, but it does pass and at that point you have to...
  16. That is hilarious! Well done!
  17. That stinks! Just throwing this out there, would a train be an option? You could get your own "room"? I dunno. I feel for ya though.
  18. Could be dairy, could be ??? Try to avoid it for awhile and then re-introduce, see if it really is the culprit. It could be corn or soy too. Being a vegan try not to fill up on soy. Look for healthy sources of protiens like quinoa, beans, nuts, etc. There are gluten free, soy free, dairy free ice creams out there. Or make your own. Other ideas for dairy free...
  19. I have Hashimoto's as well. I had a goiter, thyroid was enlarged as well. Levels were not normal. I am on a life time treatment of synthroid (spelling?). Which personally I think I need an alternative choice in thyroid meds, something natural. Any ways.... It sucks, but it's not that bad. I still have alot of the same symptoms I had before the diagnosis...
  20. Wow. I had an experience in a hospital as well. I told them repeated I was on a gluten free diet. After 2 days of not eating, the doc finally allowed foods. I was so excited to get to eat. They brought me a breaded fish sandwhich. My mom went livid, as did I after going rounds with the kitchen folks, they didn't understand the diet and the nutritionist...
  21. I don't brave buffets. I would eat beforehand or bring your own food. If your uncomfortable bringing your own food, "it is better to beg for forgiveness than ask permission." At least that is my approach when I bring food and I am worried about getting "in trouble". I mean what can they do, throw you in a "time out". LOL. Better to eat safely...
  22. I think these stories are funny, but frustrating as well. I have had several servers get confused gluten with dairy. How? I have not a clue, but I did have one ask me what gluten was and then she through in cheese and other dairy products on top of wheat, barley, rye, etc. I was like, no thats dairy/casien/lactose, not gluten. I got blank face from her. ...
  23. Strange. I was always under the impression that canola oil had a little bit of Soy in it, or that most did. But maybe not. I know when I went through the Soy Allergy phase I through out all canola oil and only used olive and coconut oil (I like those better anyhow). I wish I could find the article I read to back that up, but I can't. I know the primary...
  24. Every time I have used it for cereal I have had a reaction. Small but enough to check and indeed barley is in it. Whether it was removed or not, it was in it at some point. I don't know about everyone else, but that gives me a red flag. I am surprised that a bakery would use it, I would let them know that maybe they should rethink their processes. Just my...
  25. If you think all grains might be problem, the Paleo diet would be good to try for a bit to let the system heal. Then maybe after awhile if you want to eat grains again you could try re-introducing them one at a time to see how you handle it.
