ARCHIVED I Can't Do This
Salax replied to NewbieMarch2011's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just my 2 cents, but I still can't understand why other people in our lives are so concerned with what we eat or don't eat. Is is really that big of a deal? Our body, our choice. Unless someone is eating glass or things that aren't food, it's really no ones business but our own. That just frustrates me to no end. I am frustrated with your husband's treatment... -
ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
Salax replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also, after being Gluten Free for 6 months, developed GB Disease (maybe I had it all along, just couldn't tell, because I was always in pain). Anyhow it was working at 13%, I was told that eventually a failing GB will become toxic, overtime as it "dies", then it has to come out. According to my doc there is no alternative healing for it, in a phase... -
ARCHIVED Puttin In Work
Salax replied to Junot's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am thinking you need a new doctor. Any chance of that? I am not sure how that stuff works in Canada. -
I have attended many Ren Faires and truthfully I don't eat there. Everything is questionable and even the turkey leg guy at in my area refuses to answer the "gluten question" on his food. So I pack a bar, apple and get bottled water. Oh, and I eat before I go. Have fun!

ARCHIVED Reaction To Stitches And Medical Tape
Salax replied to lolipopins's topic in Super Sensitive People
Never heard of that, do you have a reference for that? I always had a reaction to regular medical tape (rash, itchy, swelling) but not to paper tape or to stitches (that I know of). Thanks -
ARCHIVED Manager Bringing Gluten Free Cake
Salax replied to Melstar23's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maybe it's me, but I would really wonder if that cake was gluten free. If your boss meant well, great. But I have ran into way too many people that think it's all in your head, so they try to feed you gluten, just to see if you really do get sick from it. Almost like suddenly if we eat gluten we turn into the one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater... -
ARCHIVED Protein Powder?
Salax replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with you. We have been feed so many inaccuracies about food from the FDA. But each person has to decide for themselves if they believe it or not. The issue with sugar I have heard before. Another issue is protein powders that are processed can have added sugars or sugar substitutes, which again, I believe aspartame and the like are harmful... -
ARCHIVED Protein Powder?
Salax replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry if my dangerous comment is bothersome. But Soy even if your not allergic to it or have a problem with it in the digestion sense..it is still a dangerous product that people really should do the research before consuming it. It is the number one GMO'd resource on the planet and it has been linked to many medical problems. (Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Protein Powder?
Salax replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Personally, I like Jay Robb's Egg Protein Powder. The Whey for many of us is hard to digest because of lactose or casien issues. If your not an egg person or you can't eat, another one that is really awesome is Pea Protein (it's gluten free, vegan and soy free) it has a lite vanilla taste so you can mix with fruit or PB or whatever you like. I like... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have Gluten Reactions Without Celiacs?
Salax replied to meggo623's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just to touch on what you said here, every auto-immune disease attacks something. For Celiac folks its gut because of gluten ingestion, for Hashimoto's disease suffers the immune system is attacking the Thyriod, for RA it's the joints, for Lupus (depending on what kind) attacks systematically or can attack different areas in the body and etc. There are several... -
Doughy pizza. I hate thin cracker like crust that seems to be the norm for gluten free pizza in a restaurant. Everything else I can deal with..there are just those days where I wish I could order a pizza. Ya know.

ARCHIVED Restaurants Won't Allow Any Outside Food
Salax replied to SarahB34's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I agree. I would cancel the booking, find another venue. And in that instance. Don't ask, just bring. If they say anything tell them why. What can they do, throw you in a time out? It's better to beg for forgiveness then ask for permission. I think that applies here. Good luck and try not to worry about it. -
ARCHIVED Controversial Facebook Post By Chef
Salax replied to idonteatwheat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I want to slap this guy. I know, I know. Bad, but I do. Seriously, lets give peanuts to someone with a peanut allergy, all in their head right? Peanuts have been around for thousands of years...Dude, that isn't a valid arguement. Cancer has been around for thousands of years, doesn't mean it's good for you. Wow, people like this guy make me afraid to eat... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't She Have It In Moderation?
Salax replied to JustForJen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sweet, Welcome Wife and Hubby! This is the best place to be for knowledge and for support. I know it's kind of cleche but with time the gluten free lifestyle does get easier and it's really not so bad..it could always be worse. Besides, I think it's so awesome that we can heal ourselves naturally without drugs. Just change the diet and feel better.... -
I agree though that the sauce on the pizza is too sweet. I asked if their original sauce was safe, but they were unsure. Maybe a "white sauce" pizza is available. I will have to check it out.

My doc told me the same thing (go gluten free lite) because one of the antibodies was positive and the other negative and the third was out of range. I basically told him you need to read on the subject, because there is no gluten free lite diet for a positive blood test. Luckly people on this forum backed up my claim. I'm sorry but I think doctors...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Think About This?
Salax replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thought about it, but when I get glutened I have no desire to eat anything for the duration of sickness. So I guess that's a good thing, not really tempted. -
ARCHIVED Cadbury Mini Eggs
Salax replied to mommyoftwinks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LOL meaning you people talking about chocolate are bad. Not the chocolate itself. Although there are better chocolates in the world, this chocolate I got from Russia for example was AWESOME. But the the generic stuff is ok too. Chocolate in itself is a food group, so it's all good. Hehe. -
ARCHIVED Cadbury Mini Eggs
Salax replied to mommyoftwinks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This topic alone is making me drool. Bad chocolate people, bad..LOL -
ARCHIVED What Does It Feel Like?
Salax replied to concernedmamma's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The glass through your gut concept is brillant. I feel like that plus the dizziness, vomiting, headache, and D. A tummy ache is one thing. A glutened tummy ache is a whole other ball of icky. It does feel like some one is slicing you up from the inside. Hope that helps. Sorry your little one is going through this, I can't imagine. -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream
Salax replied to xMichellex's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just my 2 cents...I am not that sensitive and I reacted to Rice Dream. It was mild, but still a gluten type reaction. I vote Almond milk if your not allergic. -
Yes, it has gotten better. And shorter, use to have heavy 7 to 9 day periods. Now only 5 days total with only 2 heavy days. So it's been awesome that way. Stillg get severe cramps though and my usual migraine.

ARCHIVED New Food Allergies And Family Doesn't Understand
Salax replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the others. Take care of YOU. Family is family. They'll either get over it or they won't, but its on them how they deal with it. They can either be loving or not. How they feel and what they do are not your issues; those are theirs. You need to heal right now, maybe you need to take a break from them and focus on you. -
I am a fan of the Paleo diet. I feel so much better with out all the junk.

Milk is ok for me in small quanities (thank goodness for that, I missed cheese an milk for so long!) or I can use almond milk if it would work. So, yes...I would like the recipe. Thank you!!
