  1. Also, 'contains no gluten' may not be entirely accurate. Might be worth asking if the sauce is processed on a dedicated gluten free line, or in a gluten free room or facility. If it's not (which is highly likely), it could simply be that your batch of the sauce got contaminated somewhere along the way, ya know? I've had this happen with a company that...
  2. sending good thoughts for a fast recovery your way.
  3. I would definitely pass that info. on. 1 in 22 of that group (1 degree away from a celiac, like sibling, child, parent) are postive as well. For me, my dad was diagnosed a few years back and told me it was 'like an allergy,' so I didn't look into it much. I slowly started getting illness after illness, worse and worse, and then I found out I had it as...
  4. My daughter has near OCD like behavior and huge bouts of anxiety, but off of gluten AND a few other foods we found through a food journal, there has been a HUGE improvement. We haven't done allergy testing, but we can definitely track her behavior to her food. Might be worth keeping a food journal for your little one, too. For my daughter, gluten, corn...
  5. I have a little rash, and I'm trying to figure out if it might be DH. It seems too mild to me, from the descriptions I've read, but I'm just not sure what the heck it could be. I'd appreciate any help you can give me! I've had celiac disease for 1 year now. I've never had DH. I have a gluten-free kitchen, although some things are gluten-free to...
  6. The only thing that might have an impact is if the grain is genetically modified. Some celiacs seem to have more issues with foods that are genetically modified, and the genetic modification gets passed on into the meat that ate the genetically modified grains. The gluten itself, of course, doesn't make it through
  7. Sorry you don't feel like you can trust the dietician. That is just a frustrating place to be. I'd definitely say that it's good to make sure your information is up to date. Knowledge about celiacs is still being discovered, so even a couple years can make a big difference. I was only diagnosed a year ago and some information has changed from what my first...
  8. I'd take a look at 'gluten withdrawal,' a number of people suffered from that who are active on the forum. Felt bad, I understand, but it did pass. Another thing I'd look at is if there's anything you've suddenly increased in your diet that you didn't eat as much of before. You might have an undiagnosed food allergy or sensitivity. My GI was telling me...
  9. So sorry you're feeling so bad! From what you said, nothing stands out hugely, but I'll see what I can contribute for your search for the answer! 1. You could be really sensitive to gluten and that's what's getting you. You were saying you've replaced your kitchen utensils and pans and such, yas? How severe have you restricted your gluten to things other...
  10. I hate to say it but...that sounds an awful lot like fructose malabsorption. It's a condition that, they think, might occur in folks with gut issues, like celiacs, IBS, etc... There's some information about it here, and what foods set it off: Open Original Shared Link But, some other possibilities? (just throwing out anything that comes to mind...
  11. I do know that celiac disease is 'triggered,' so at some point, you definitely go from a state of gluten being fine, to it causing problems, but I don't know how it manifests for those who feel the symptoms right away, I'm afraid. However, food allergies do sudden onset as well, and can cause dizziness and nausea, too. I just went through that, and I had...
  12. I'd say you have the right concerns. CC is definitely an issue. Frankly, saying that if CC was an issue your son would dead is like saying. I don't look both ways before i cross the street, but if looking both ways before we cross the street was really such a big deal, I'd be dead by now. Just because we were lucky, or didn't see the danger, doesn...
  13. congrats! It kind of feels like a holiday, when you find something like this, doesn't it? Hope the good feelings just keep right on coming!
  14. The tongue burning could definitely be a reaction to something - get that to quite a few things. If you look up OAS (oral allergy syndrome) it talks about that reaction, so you could see if the details match your own. However, I would wonder about the 3-4 day lapse being related. 1-2 days, I could see it. 3-4 days - well, worth keeping track of, but I...
  15. Just to add another voice for diet changes.... A husband of a friend of ours was also diagnosed with RA. His was bad enough that he was in a wheelchair. Going off of gluten, nightshades, dairy, and wine, he has improved so much that he is not only off the wheelchair, he's a runner now. I know that this is not the case for everyone, but diet does seem to...
  16. Another word of encouragement! If you feel better, drop that gluten like a hot potato. My GI, when we were looking for issues, told me he was sending a list of my test results to my dietician, and then he said something that made a huge impact on me: you send her a list of everything that seems to make you feel bad, too, because tests don't tell us everything...
  17. Oh man, I sympathize! I've been trying to find corn free vitamins for forever! As an aside, I've come across a lot of 'corn free' vitamins that are rather like many 'gluten free' things. They have corn derived ingredients, and assume that if any corn is left, it's too little to react to. But of course, some of us still do. :-P This is information about...
  18. This might not apply at all, but...have you ever had her checked for other food issues? My daughter - just turned 12 about a week ago - sounds very similar. Big melt downs with crying and furious anger. And they just go on, and on, and on. Like she just doesn't know when it's time to finally say: you have to stop now or your mother is going to lose her...
  19. good luck to you! We had a similar improvement on going organic, too. We're gluten free as well, which showed improvement, but organic made a big different too, it's amazing, isn't it? Oh, and you might want to check out the most recent research into gluten free grains - they were saying that any non-gluten grains and flours can automatically label...
  20. I think it's actually easier to go dairy free at first. A few friends of mine who are lactose intolerant tend to simply avoid dairy for the most part, just to be safe. I know a few of them have had foods that were low in lactose and made 'em pretty sick. We've had to be dairy free for a while, too (my son), and I'd definitely second the toffuti suggestion...
  21. Ha, definitely not made for bigger folks! I remember this one poor guy - and he was only maybe 5'10" - who had to try and crawl up into the play area to get his kids, and he got stuck on the slide! Had to have another adult help him out.
  22. Oh darn it - I mis-typed. I meant to say I don't think you are OVER-analyzing the CC potential. I think you were analyzing it just fine. Dang - sorry about that!
  23. I think the big thing is to try to face it and be able to relax and stay vigilant at the same time, if that makes sense? But I don't think you were analyzing the CC potential, really. I think it's...well, I don't honestly know! I know very small amounts can cause damage, and they can be spread from contact, although the amounts would get less and less with...
  24. This might help you in dealing with your blankety-blank GI: Open Original Shared Link It's about an article in Scientific American recently about recent research into celiac disease, and this is what is says, in a nutshell: They are beginning to think that all auto-immune disorders have three things in common. 1.There needs to be a genetic issue...
  25. Long answer, sorry for the extra blather, if it's not needed! The first thing I would say is this: If you haven't done it before, I would seriously think about taking your daughter off of gluten too, just for a while, to see how she does off of it. If you or your husband haven't been tested, I would consider it, too. Out of people who are one degree...
