ARCHIVED Depressed Over Celiac, Need Help!
lynnelise replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok...now I see where you said you don't want to cook a full meal for just yourself. I suggest cooking full meals and eating the leftovers for a couple of nights! Or throwing some quick stuff together: Corn tortillas with cheese grilled til melted. Serve with cut up veggies or a can of gluten-free soup. Baked potatoes with brocolli and cheese or... -
ARCHIVED Depressed Over Celiac, Need Help!
lynnelise replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gluten free specialty products aren't necessary! I mean they are good for an occassional treat but definately not required for the diet! Here are some examples of what I eat regularly: Breakfast: yogurt and fruit. Homemade muffins. gluten-free oats or cream of rice cereal mixed with fruit, pumpkin, ect. Larabars. Lunch: Dinner leftovers. gluten... -
Nutella is great! I also like the Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter. I have a jar on my desk staring me down right now!

ARCHIVED Never Had A "last Meal"
lynnelise replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I understand where you are coming from, I sometimes see things and wish I could have them one last time. Then I think even if I ate it again I'd still be thinking that I wish it wasn't the last time. I'm not even sure I could enjoy it because I'd be so miserable thinking about never having it again! -
ARCHIVED Celiac Is So Humiliating Sometimes
lynnelise replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have gotten lots of those comments before. The weird thing is a really carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs so my waist is my smaller area! I used to bloat terrible when I ate gluten and one day I was doing a tax return and the receptionist came in to ask if I had gotten one of the donuts they were handing out...well the client decides to speak... -
I hate that this has happened to you! I'm so sorry! I think pampering yourself is a really good idea, enjoy your massage.

lynnelise replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your trip sounds amazing! I'm glad there were so many gluten-free resources available. I have tried a few of the Schar products and they are very good. I wish we could get those croissants in the U.S. They sound heavenly!!! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Immune To Poisin Oak/ivy?
lynnelise replied to rdunbar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So far over the past 32 years I've never gotten poison ivy or oak. In fact when I was a child, as ploy to extend spring break my cousin and I rolled in it...I was fine, she was so miserable she would've liked to die! lol! I know I've been exposed to it many times because my husband and daughter get it all the time. Fingers crossed my immunity to it lasts... -
ARCHIVED Help With These Symptoms! Tmi
lynnelise replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have gastritis and sometimes if I eat something I shouldn't have or take too much Advil it will cause that to flare up and I'll get heartburn. It takes several days for the heartburn to go away. I would guess given the severity of your symptoms that the dairy irritated your entire GI tract and the heartburn is a lingering symptom. Definately tell your... -
ARCHIVED Too Much Time On My Hands...
lynnelise replied to chasbari's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glutenvy- the feeling that came over me at breakfast this weekend when everyone was eating croissants from a French bakery and I was eating another rice cake! -
Thank God both Chickfilas in my town have dedicated fryers. Even the tiny one in the mall does! I eat there at least once a week. I'm not sure I could survive without it! lol!

My immune system is so much better now that I'm not eating gluten. Last year I had the flu, mono, four bouts of strep throat, five outbreaks of shingles, a UTI, and several sinus infections. This year so far I have had one upper respiratory infection and the whole family caught it so I wasn't alone! Also twice my husband has caught a cold and I didn't...

ARCHIVED I Cannot Take It Anymore!
lynnelise replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
90% of the time I am cool with being gluten free and just accept it. Every once in awhile (seems to be hormonal in my case) I freak out. I only crave gluten foods, I don't want to cook, everytime someone eats a cookie I feel like they've slapped me in the face, ect. I just get really depressed and throw quite the pity party! So I don't really have any... -
I am so sorry about your grandfather! How terrible, especially on top of everything else!

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Suspect Other People Have Celiacs?
lynnelise replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've tried to get my husband to see if he could be celiac because he occassionally has elevated liver enzymes, acid reflux, and D. He won't make an appointment but often says it would be a good idea to try the diet but then he never does. I don't say much to my friends. I suggested to one friend that a gluten free diet was shown to help PCOS which she... -
Yesterday: Breakfast- smoothie with yogurt, 1%milk, blueberries, strawberries, and vanilla whey protein powder. I am so sorry to hear about George! I can't imagine what you are going through. Thoughts and prayers to you! Definately try the crackers and see what happens. If you have any sort of reaction I would stay with the gluten-free diet. My bloodwork was negative as well (my doctor didn't tell me I needed to be eating gluten at the time of the test!) and...

ARCHIVED Celiac, Not Celiac, Celiac, Not Celiac
lynnelise replied to kayo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to see a doctor who could not accept that eating gluten free solved my problems. He said I was "taking the easy way out" and that I was probably reacting to fructose and not gluten. Well he ordered the fructose testing and none of the four labs in town had the solution to drink. They all said I would probably have to go to a pediatric hospital... -
ARCHIVED Coffee Issues
lynnelise replied to lynnelise's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well yesterday I went to the allergy doctor because after I posted this topic my issues started getting stranger in that I was having tingling around my lips and gums and a strong metallic taste in my mouth after drinking coffee. Turns out I have developed a coffee allergy. I just thought I should update it so if anyone searched the forums they wouldn't... -
ARCHIVED The Signs Of Healing - Neato
lynnelise replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is interesting. I know some B vitamins I take now turn my pee yellow. Everyone always talked about that but it never happened to me! I haven't had asparagus since before going gluten free and it didn't make me have green pee then, I'm curious to see if it will now! -
Thanks for the band-aid tip! Band-aids break me out something terrible. You can see the outline of the band-aid for at least a week after I remove it and it itches like mad!
-
I was tested for a coffee allergy today actually. I've been having weird tingling in my lips and mouth when I drink it, turns out I did show a reaction. I'm in WV so maybe there is a difference between what they can test for here as opposed to KY.

ARCHIVED How Do You Explain It
lynnelise replied to summerteeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That teacher is a scary situation! I read a news article several years ago where a teacher gave a boy a cookie telling him it was okay after he told her he wasn't supposed to have it. He died as he was allegeric to peanuts. Luckily adults can ignore that kind of behavior but kids may honestly believe this teacher when she says a little bit won't hurt! They... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Explain It
lynnelise replied to summerteeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes I somewhat inaccurately tell people I can't eat flour because I find that a shocking number of people don't think white flour is made from wheat! -
ARCHIVED Getting Fed Up And Tired Of It.
lynnelise replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's common to feel bad for several days after ingesting gluten. It usually takes me a week to stop feeling achy and fatigued. Most stomach issues usually subside within a day for me (except bloating). Try not to freak out! This is normal!
