  1. even more great suggestions to try! thanks for the link too!
  2. hypothyroid for me ... diagnosed at 19 years old with it. and i agree with roda, i probably had celiac back then but just didn't know it.
  3. sounds like a slug of a thyroid to me. your thyroid controls everything! i was diagnosed with hypothyroid back in 1992 because i had all those symptoms + some. i would definitely try for sooner than 6 weeks. unfortunately nothing you do on your own will help your thyroid function properly if it is in fact hypo. you will feel better once you get the meds...
  4. wow, glad you are outa the hospital and i sure hope they find answers for you that will bring you relief. will continue to pray for ya.
  5. oh my gosh that looks and sounds awesome! i printed it out so i can make it this weekend ... thanks!!!
  6. i feel the same way eating much of those kinds of foods. if i balance my carbs (like potatoes, chickpeas, rice, quinoa, etc) with some protein i feel great. but if i eat too much of them on their own i feel that same "sittin in there" feeling you do. but i sure miss me a good slice of pizza.
  7. thank you, thank you ... i'm looking forward to trying out your fav's!
  8. i've had that before! it could be "trapped" gas, but a 4 hour bike ride can effect nerves and muscles for sure so i'd also think it could just be spasms from that.
  9. just wondering if there are any tasty already baked loafs of gluten free bread that you know of? i've noticed in another forum some people eat toast and i'm wondering if that was a presliced loaf purchased or if you make it and freeze it? i'd love to make a sandwich with something other than lettuce, rice cakes or corn tortillas. thanks!
  10. what kind of bread do you use for your toast? do you bake it yourself or is there a loaf out there that tastes really good?
  11. well its a gamble, really. you may be perfectly fine eating out and trusting the restaurant took every precaution but then again you really won't know until after you eat. one way of inadvertently ingesting gluten may come to you via cross contamination or even beauty/health products like hand lotions, etc. it could be residue from yourself or someone who...
  12. i hear some stories that the "airborne" does present a problem while there are other celiacs that are professional bakers with no problems being around it at all. it may be one of those situations that you have to wait and see?? hopefully it won't be too stressful and she will take all precautions.
  13. i remember wanting to fall asleep a few hours earlier in the evening than i normally do. (that's saying a lot because i have insomnia). of course i'd wake up during the night rather than sleep all through it but i welcomed the sleepiness! i was more tired than usual the first couple of weeks but it tapered off.
  14. wow, had no clue that some things can be tax deductible! thanks for the link.
  15. i don't believe there is a difference between the two. if i'm wrong, someone let me know please and thank you. to me its just a different way to say eliminate every spec of gluten from your diet. make sure to remember that cross contamination could be a source as well. it doesn't have to be a whole bite of something with gluten.
  16. i'm not at the 6 mo mark yet but i have seen so many improvements after 3.5 ... and i'm kinda starting over since i did a challenge for a few weeks but i feel like i'm "recovering" a bit faster. i have been keeping a journal since day 1 of foods, experiences, symptoms, improvements, etc. not so much the food anymore as the rest of it. the journal has already...
  17. thank goodness for chex ... i love a cold bowl of cereal for breakfast or a snack! for me though, having a quick bowl of cereal will still leave me hungry a lot earlier than if i threw some good protein in there. but it may not be a coincidence because i have hypoglycemia and overeall i think its improved being gluten free. in fact, so so many things are...
  18. first, i have definitely noticed a difference in anxiety levels ... for the better of course! second, if you do the biopsy you will need to eat gluten again (which is what i did and it was awful and i feel like i reversed progress) BUT having the endoscopy revealed a couple other problems i was unaware of. if you feel like other issues are worth checking...
  19. it will get better and better each day. it is hard and you'll go through a withdraw! this site is full of encouragement and great tips ... hang in there and best wishes!
  20. i'm healing because of the decision to use enterolab. it got the ball rolling so to speak. if you get the negative blood work you get discouraged again especially when you *know* gluten is the problem. not everyone gets the positive biopsy via endoscopy either. in one book/research site it will say 1 test is not conclusive. in another, endoscopy is golden...
  21. 13 years of MANY different doctors (including many "specialists" of sorts) with tests for my heart, mri's, ct's, blood work (funny never tested celiac though). yes, i was very frustrated and scared for my health for 13 years ... i had 1 doctor tell me i had "ibs and perhaps a touch of hypocondria". and to think he got $$ from me makes me angry!! i didn...
  22. you will feel so much better everywhere not just your digestive tract by eliminating gluten. nexium is tough on the liver and apparently in the news lately for bone loss. to me, one of the blessings of this disease is that you can heal without harmful drugs. and you are deficient in vit d so that is another problem that nexium will not heal but staying...
  23. wow, very interesting article ... thanks for sharing!
  24. i hope you are feeling better very soon!
  25. trying the diet will speak volumes to you as each day goes by. you have to be as strict as possible and watch cross contamination. you will start noticing changes in your health as time goes on if you are completely avoiding gluten. 3 months can make a big difference for many health issues so give it atleast that long. you will most likely start feeling...
