  1. Since you are already gluten free Allison, your tests will most likely come up negative. The doctor might try to talk you into eating lots of gluten and making yourself sick for 4 to 6 weeks in order to "prove" the diagnosis with positive tests. Since you have had such a good response to the diet, you might want to think ahead of time about whether you are...
  2. Do they know how you got the parasites? Did you travel somewhere? This whole disease is baffling. The doctors not knowing jack is baffling.
  3. Oh honey, big HUGS for you!!! I wanted to cry reading your post. We are all in that desperate state at one point or other. I'm sort of there right now. To be a single mom on top of it is a lot to handle. I too have the weight gain no matter what I do. I was always thin until I got hypothyroidism and after having 2 kids it doesn't matter what I do, what...
  4. Are you going to get blood and a biopsy? Since you are so gluten heavy right now, it would be the time to test. Don't go gluten free until you've had tests done. Then if they come up negative you can decide whether you want to try the diet and see if it works. You are a tough position. I think that if you want to continue this career then you will have...
  5. Do I just ask my regular doc to test for those?
  6. It might not be that you are intolerant or allergic to all these foods. Maybe your whole GI tract is just so sensitive when you eat because of the parasites and all the other things you have dealt with in the past couple of years. Right now I'm super sensitive to everything, but it changes all the time. One day this bothers me and the next day it doesn...
  7. I'm at the end of week 4, but my first 2 weeks I accidentally got gluten hidden in things. Right away my anxiety attacks stopped. I go back and forth between having tons of energy and then being fatigued again in the afternoon. Still having GI issues, and I'm starving all the time. I had chronic allergy and sinus issues which are WAY better, nearly...
  8. I've read about this happening to many on this board and now it's happening to me. My gut is irritated when I eat. Period. I've simplified my diet, cut out soy, dairy, tomatoes and eating simple foods, but I still have gastro issues and now it seems like anytime I eat I've got some symptom or other. I've only been truly gluten free for 2 weeks because...
  9. That happened to me last night and the day before after eating what I KNOW is a safe meal. I made it myself and it was simple meats and vegetables. So I have no idea. I feel like my body has gone haywire since going gluten free a month ago. Some things are better but some are not, and a few instances have been worse. I wish I knew what was going on, but I...
  10. We're all grieving aren't we? I know I am. I grieve everyday right now because I'm still pretty sick much of the time and can't figure out why, or maybe it's just withdrawals still. Here's a hug. We can cry together!
  11. Don't let the fact that it happened when he was exclusively breastfed trip you up. The proteins in dairy and gluten are large and do go into breastmilk like another poster said. My son had blood in his stool when he was exclusively breastfed at 3 weeks old because he was reacting to what I was eating.
  12. It could be celiac although at this age your baby probably won't have antibodies built up to come up positive on a test. It could be intolerance or allergy. You just can't know until you simplify his diet and challenge foods later after he improves. It's the only sure way to find out what's causing this. His symptoms are pretty classic for "food allergies...
  13. Celiac isn't a death sentence. And honestly even if something more serious ran in the family, there is no way of telling what your child will or won't have. If you want another child, have another child. I can't believe your mom is meddling in something so personal as the decision about whether or not to have more kids. That's between you and your husband...
  14. It sounds like your DH is trying really hard for you, and all you can do is applaud his efforts. It's so convoluted and hard to understand for us celiacs, I just think it's very hard for them. It is so sweet that he did that for you on Valentine's Day. He went way out of his way and probably felt embarrassed and awful that it still wasn't right. Men...
  15. I've been reading articles about environmental toxins and autoimmune disorders, as well as all the allergies and things people have now. I read that there was a study done on 6000 people to see what chemicals they had in their blood. Nearly all of them had chemicals from plastics and the scary one was teflon coating from nonstick pans! Has anybody gone...
  16. I would have a hard time there then!!! Yikes! I would be "Oversensitive to Smells Girl." I can't believe someone would tell you that you were being a picky eater. What a jerk. Nobody has ever said that to me, but if they did they would get a dissertation on what it means to have an autoimmune disorder and all the danger of eating a "little bit of...
  17. I would not wait until he is older because your baby is sick and has been sick pretty much his whole life. Wellness is your number one goal here so he can have a good start now, instead of fixing damage later. There is damage being done if he is having undigested food and all the symptoms you are telling us about. What you should have done is go very slowly...
  18. I wanted to add that celiac disease is only diagnosed in 1 in 5000 people in the U.S. A doctor friend of mine has only ever had ONE celaic patient in her practice. My mother in law has been an allergist 30 years and only has seen a couple of celiac patients ever. My doctor only has ME as a celiac patient and the nurse there has been nursing 30+ years and...
  19. My husband is Filipino and he NEVER takes Filipino food to work if I cook it. He is not going to be THAT guy who smelled up the kitchen at work. You can say "screw the insensitive people" and keep bringing fish, but all you will do is alienate yourself from them and people will not like you. Office politics get nasty over stuff like this and it's just...
  20. I'm so sorry that you are going through this! It is so hard to be limited in foods to that extent and then have to watch others at work eating all the good stuff. With all due respect, I have to be honest and say I would have freaked out if somebody did that where I worked. The smell of fish is so nauseating to me, I probably would have had to throw...
  21. Wanted to add that blood testing for allergies is pretty inaccurate especially for foods. Food allergies are tough to test for in babies and elimination diet is the ONLY sure way to do it. I'm sorry that your doctors haven't been able to advise you better all this time.
  22. Are you still breastfeeding? If you are, do an elimination diet and see if he gets better. I'm shocked they didn't have you do this when he was tiny still. I started my elimination diet when my son, who is now 5, was only 3 weeks old. I had to quit a whole bunch of foods the first year- wheat, soy, dairy, nuts, and corn. I nursed until he was 2 1/2 but after...
  23. Maltodextrin is safe. There are things that have definitely gotten better like my anxiety attacks are gone and I 'm not short of breath and coughing all the time. Also I had insomnia really bad and that has gotten much better, almost gone. My tummy troubles are far from over though.
  24. Keep on venting. You will find the answer! Maybe the antiparasite meds are the answer. I have been praying for you and will continue to pray that you get healing and get back to your former healthy self. I agree about the therapy. It can really help to have someone to talk to and help you put things in perspective. It's hard to stay positive sometimes...
  25. I'm sure the chef will work with you. I don't know that restaurant but from the menu it looks nice. I know you have many sensitivities, but this can work. I totally understand why you are afraid to eat there, but if you do the prep ahead of time, I'm sure it will be fine. I hope you can put your fear aside and enjoy the company. Those of us who are...
